Chapter 8
Chapter 8 — Mother-in-law Chooses Ex-Love
I put down the coffee cup.
“Madam Pho, the stairs you built sound like a guillotine.”
Her face turned cold: "Don't be so arrogant."
“This sentence is more suitable for you to say to yourself when looking in the mirror at home.”
She finally couldn't act anymore.
"Sam Chieu Vi, don't think that if you become a capital partner, you can show off to the Van family. A woman over 30 years old, it's very difficult to find a man like Thoi Nghien."
I burst out laughing. “I'm looking for men, not rare medicinal herbs.” She choked. I continue:
"You came to find me today, the core reason is not to feel sorry for Van Thoi Nghien. It's because next month Tu Quang Health will call for a new round of capital, and the investment fund leading this round has specifically asked my team to continue working as legal advisors. The Van family doesn't want the marriage annulment to affect the project, right?"
Pho Lam Chi's eyes changed: "Do you know?"
"I'm not blind. Tu Quang's legal department called my assistant three times yesterday."
She leaned forward.
"If you understand more clearly, then you should know that if you stress now, neither side will benefit. You can continue to return to being the future daughter-in-law of the Van family, the project will still proceed normally, you and Thoi Nghien can start again."
I looked at her.
"Mrs. Pho, have you forgotten that I am first a lawyer, and secondly that I was Van Thoi Nghien's fiancee?"
"For Tu Quang's project, I have already submitted a conflict of interest report to the law firm. In the future, whether I accept it or not, I must follow the appropriate process."
“You use a marriage contract to exchange for work, not respecting marriage and not respecting professional expertise.”
Deputy Lam Chi sneered: "Professionalism? Aren't you lawyers just people who accept money for work?" I nodded: "That's right. So I don't accept being humiliated for free." Pho Lam Chi stood up: "You will regret it." I also stood up and opened the reception room door.
"You've said this sentence once at the engagement party. I advise you to change it to a new one, so it looks like you're a little more prepared to negotiate."
She walked to the door and turned around again.
“At least Tong The Nguyet still knows how to take care of Thoi Nghien, instead of aggressively forcing people like you.”
I laughed: "Then I hope you take her home soon. Just a quick reminder, when you go to the Civil Affairs Department to complete marriage registration procedures, the male lead must be present, the mother-in-law signing on her behalf will not be valid." Pho Lam Chi was so angry that his hands were shaking. After she left, assistant A Vu poked his head in: "Boss Sam, do you need me to order a cup of milk tea for you to help you menstruate?" I said: “30% sugar, little ice.” A Vu: "Last time, the boss said he was abstaining from sugar." Me: "My mother-in-law missed the victory today, she is allowed to reward herself." In the afternoon, Van Thoi Nghien texted: "Is your mother coming to look for you?" I replied: "Yes. Communication failed. I advise you to send a representative who knows how to hear people next time." He didn't reply back. In the evening, Tong The Nguyet called me. The number is strange, but the voice is easy to recognize.
“Lawyer Sam, can we meet for a moment?”
I stared at the detailed contract on the computer: "If you want to talk about Van Thoi Nghien, then don't." She said softly: "I want to apologize to you." I stop hand. People are always a little more tolerant of beautiful girls than usual. I admit, I'm a bit shallow.
“Tomorrow at 4:00 p.m., the coffee shop downstairs from my company. If you are late for more than 10 minutes, I will charge you an hourly consultation fee.”
7 Tong The Nguyet arrived very punctually. She was wearing a light blue sweater, her hair was tied in a loose bun, and she wasn't wearing any jewelry. She looks less fragile like at the engagement party, her whole body exudes much more serenity. Her first words when she sat down were: “Excuse me.”
