Chapter 8
Chapter 8 — My Arch-Nemesis Cried at My Wedding
Tomorrow I will notify the people below; I will not make things difficult for him anymore.
That is being a good boy.
The next day, the capability profile for Chu Yuan’s company was finally approved. Immediately after, Lu Yen Than snatched away one of Chu Yuan’s biggest clients of the year. Chu Yuan called me again.
Truong Niem Niem, and you too, strategist Chuong Diem, can you two please stop plucking the feathers off the same sheep? It feels as if you two and Lu Yen Than are working together as inside agents!
That is really not the case.
Sister Niem, when two gods fight, please do not let us little demons suffer the collateral damage. He is crossing over into my industry just to torment me. If you do not care about me, you should at least respect Diem Diem and help me out. This is the milk and diaper money I am grinding to earn for my future child!
I had no choice but to trudge off and find Lu Yen Than once more. As it happened, there was a business gala that week, and Lu Yen Than was in attendance. At the party, Lu Yen Than looked suave and impressive in his crisp suit, laughing and chatting with a group of CEOs. I waited patiently for him to finish his business before stepping forward.
Lu Yen Than.
He turned his head, and upon seeing me, his eyes lit up with a spark I could barely perceive.
You came to find me?
Give the major client back to Chu Yuan.
His expression darkened instantly.
You came here still for his sake.
That is Chu Yuan’s business affair; you do not even make a living in that sector, so stop acting out.
Unless you get a divorce.
His voice was perfectly calm.
Otherwise, this is just fair and just commercial competition.
You call this fair? It is obvious you are targeting him!
Hmm.
He leaned down, bringing his lips close to my ear.
Truong Niem Niem, divorce him and marry me, and every single problem will be easily resolved.
Shivers ran down my spine. It was not because of the cold. It was because it was just too cheesy.
Lu Yen Than, you are being deliberately difficult!
I am being deliberately difficult?
He laughed, but his face remained cold as iron.
You hid from me, got married without saying a word, and he stole away the person I love most—am I the one being difficult?
Truong Niem Niem, you are being far too biased.
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving me with the sight of his lonely, disillusioned back. When the party ended, I walked out with Chu Yuan. Without my noticing, Lu Yen Than had been following close behind. He kept trailing us, maintaining a distance of about three steps. He did not speak. He would not leave. He just followed. Chu Yuan looked back at him and whispered to me:
What is wrong with him?
Just ignore him.
But he keeps staring at you.
Let him stare.
I have this feeling he wants to kill me...
That is just an illusion.
We reached the parking lot. Lu Yen Than was still clinging to our trail. Chu Yuan opened the car door, and just as I was about to slide in, I suddenly heard a soft, muffled sob from behind, as if someone were unable to contain themselves. I turned around. Lu Yen Than was standing three paces away, his eyes rimmed with red. It was not just his eyes; the tip of his nose was flushed, his lips pressed into a tight line, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down. He looked as if he were drunk.
...Lu Yen Than?
He said nothing. He simply stood there, looking at me. In his eyes was an emotion I could not even name. It was like resentment, yet also like wounded pride. It carried a hint of suppressed pleading. In that split second, my heart softened. Damn it. I had actually gone soft. I walked over and gripped his wrist.
Follow me over here.
I pulled him into my car. Closing the door, I turned to look at him.
What on earth are you trying to do?
He bowed his head, his eyelashes still wet with shimmering droplets.
Truong Niem Niem.
Yes?
Can you make him the secondary husband instead?
I nearly burst out laughing.
What did you say?
I said...
He raised his head to look at me, eyes bloodshot, nose red, looking absolutely miserable.
I have known you longer. Six years.
So what?
When it comes to waiting in line, I should at least be at the front.
