Chapter 3
Chapter 3 — My Wet Jackfruit Mermaid
07
I don't know how long I slept, but I was woken up by the hot temperature. Opening his eyes, he saw that the mermaid, which had the right temperature, had now turned into a living heater. His cheeks were red, his mouth slightly open, his lips even redder than usual. Seeing that I was awake, his whole body turned towards me, and his fish tail also wrapped around my legs.
“Let go, you're too hot.” I said, completely unconcerned because I immediately threw it away after using it.
On Lan did not let go. He reached out and lifted my face, bowed his head, and gently touched my cheek with his lips. After kissing, he grabbed my hand and pressed it to his chest. Under the hot skin is a heart beating very fast. He raised his eyes and looked at me pitifully, his eyelashes trembling, almost in tears in the next second.
“Lam Tri Phi…”
The voice is somewhat hoarse. Finally, I was enlightened. One hand hugged his waist, the other held the fish tail, and lifted him up horizontally. Some confusion appeared on On Lan's face. But he quickly accepted this setting. Without struggling, he leaned his head into the crook of my neck and rubbed. I carried him to the pool. Throw the mermaid down. The seller once said that although mermaids can operate on land, they must periodically replenish water. His body was so hot, his throat was so hoarse. There is definitely a lack of water. In the swimming pool, On Lan looked at me incredulously. Seeing that I was not moved at all, he angrily swam a few laps in the water. Indeed, there is a lack of water. Look, as soon as I got into the water, I was so happy that I swam around. Finally, On Lan curled up in the corner farthest from me, quietly dropping small pearls. I nodded. Ha ha, so happy I cried.

The next morning, while my consciousness was still not fully awake, someone gently played with my hand placed on the edge of the bed. Opening my eyes, I tilted my head to look over. I only saw On Lan lying on the floor next to my bed. He was now raising his hand, playing with my fingers. Beside him were scattered many pearls. Seeing me awake, he looked at me resentfully. I don't know how long I lay like that. I sat on the edge of the bed, a bit awkward. Even though these pearls are extremely expensive and beautiful, now I basically have no place to stand. It only took 0 seconds for me to see a safety risk. I used my foot to sweep and clear out a space:
“You can clean these things up yourself.”
He felt even more sorry for himself. Waiting for me to finish washing my face and prepare to go out, he was still picking up each pill. Today I worked overtime longer than expected. When I returned, the room was dark. The moment the light turned on, I froze. All the containers in the house were filled with pearls. Irregularly large and small, radiating rainbow light. Relatively premium quality. I had doubts in my heart: What did he do? Did you secretly give him my family name? I found him on a bed of water gel. The mermaid pulled down my blanket and wrapped my whole body in, leaving only the tip of my silver tail exposed. Next to it were scattered a few clothes I often wear. Why is this fish man like that? I still have to wear these clothes, he took them away to build a nest, isn't that a mess? In the glass next to it, a small mountain overflowed from the rim of the glass and collapsed, a pearl rolling out. The blanket moved, a limp hand reached out, groping on the ground. I gently touched his finger and stuffed the pearl into his hand. His movements stiffened, then he poked his head out from under the blanket.
“What's wrong with you?” I asked him.
The pearl was held even tighter by him.
“Sorry… sorry…
“Clean… clean.”
The mermaid looked at me with ice blue eyes. He reached out and gently pulled the hem of my shirt:
“Don't be angry.”
I woke up. He thought I went out in the morning and didn't return until evening. It's because I'm angry at him. That's why he didn't dare sleep in my bed, and even picked up all the pearls and put them away. Imagining the mermaid thinking I was angry, crying while picking up pearls, I kind of wanted to laugh. But just thinking about how mermaids don't know the meaning of work, don't know that there is such a thing as overtime in the world. I feel like the person who should cry is someone else.

“On Lan, I'm not angry.” I said seriously.
“I'm just working, hunting, you understand? I went out hunting.
“Sorry, I didn't expect to make you feel so uneasy.”
He blinked, not sure how much he understood, but he roughly understood that I wasn't angry. I took out the small pliers from my pocket, told him not to move, and then cut off the ear tag he had been wearing for a long time. That place was as I expected, leaving a small hole. I took out a box again, opened it, and inside was a sapphire earring. The stone is a very clear blue chrysanthemum color, cut into a teardrop shape. The intricate cross-sections sparkled extremely under the light, and from some angles one could see the same ice blue color as his eyes. Several long and short strands of crushed diamond tassels were interwoven, extremely similar to the white foam created when ocean waves crashed against each other. I helped him install his earrings and pulled him in front of the mirror. Leaving the earring completely exposed, I reached out and pushed his loose hair behind his ear.
“It suits your eyes very well, very beautiful.
“On Lan, do you like it?”
The tassels sway gently. He turned around and bowed his head. There was a moment when I doubted whether he wanted to bite me or not. But he just gently kissed my ear. In the middle of the night, I woke up dreamily, On Lan was not by my side. He sat by the window, facing the moonlight, intently looking at that earring. A piece of singing came, no words, just simple humming. It's like I'm in the deep sea right now, unable to distinguish direction, when suddenly someone plucks the strings. Perhaps the singing of mermaids really has the power to fascinate people. Didn't the seller say he couldn't sing? But I was really sleepy, so I closed my eyes. From that day on, On Lan often hummed and sang.
