Chapter 14
Chapter 14 — Nanny Counts Moles
My hand holding the knife trembled. Tran Bach Xuyen coldly glanced at Dai Chi Minh. "Shut up." I understand. In this chaos, everyone has their own calculations. Tran Bach Xuyen is afraid that the hospital's responsibility three years ago will be overturned. Tham Nghien was afraid that his signature that year would destroy this family. Phung Ngoc Cam hurt Tieu Man for her sister to compare the mole. Old lady Giang wanted to rob both children because of her property. As for the two three-year-old children, in their eyes they were just evidence, cards and replaceable names. Smoke had entered the bathroom. Nurse Luong called me out the window. "Manh Thanh, hurry up!" I looked down. She covered Tieu Man behind her back, but An An's arm was grabbed by the man next to Mrs. Giang. Tieu Man cried so much that he almost couldn't stand, but still reached out to pull An An. "Don't take her away!" My chest ached. I held the cowhide-covered notebook out the window. Old lady Giang immediately raised her head. "Throw it down here." I said: "Let An An go." The old woman smiled coldly. "You have no right to give me conditions." I let go of two fingers. The notebook slid down an inch. Finally her face changed. "Stop!" I said word for word: "Release the child." The old woman stared at me and waved her hand at the man. As soon as the man let go of An An, a loudspeaker suddenly sounded from afar. "The people in the building immediately stopped their actions." "All exits have been blocked." Mrs. Giang's face suddenly changed, she turned around and was about to get in the car. But as soon as the car door opened, several plainclothes policemen rushed out from behind the yard wall and pressed her against the side of the car. Almost at the same time, Dai Chi Minh at the bathroom door suddenly rushed towards me. He didn't come to steal the notebook. Which pushed me out the window. My belt hit the door frame, half of my body immediately hanging outside. Downstairs, Tieu Man screamed until his heart was torn. "Mom!" 15 My whole body hung next to the window, my fingers clutching tightly to the rotten wooden frame. Dai Chi Minh's hand was on my shoulder, still pushing me out. Tran Bach Xuyen stood a step away, not stopping at all. He just looked at the cowhide notebook in my hand. At that moment, I completely understood. For him, it was best if I fell. It is better if the notebook is destroyed. I gritted my teeth and suddenly let go of the hand holding the notebook. The cowhide-covered notebook fell out of the window. Tran Bach Xuyen's face changed and he almost instinctively reached out to shake his hand. Dai Chi Minh also turned his head to look. I took advantage of that second to lift my knee and hit him hard in the stomach. He groaned and backed away. I grabbed the door frame and turned back to the bathroom, my palm was cut by a wood splinter until it bled profusely. Downstairs, Nurse Luong's voice rang out. "I caught it!" Turns out I didn't throw the notebook into the open space. But throw it to her. Tran Bach Xuyen's face turned pale with anger. Dai Chi Minh was so embarrassed that he became angry and rushed towards me again. But outside the door there was the sound of heavy footsteps. Two police officers rushed into the bathroom and pushed him to the ground. Dai Chi Minh still wanted to struggle but was restrained by his broken arm. Tran Bach Xuyen turned and ran into the hallway. I chased after two steps, the smoke made me choke so much that I bowed down. At the end of the hallway, a fire broke out. Abandoned wooden boards in the old building burned very quickly, black smoke curled along the ceiling and poured in. Phung Ngoc Cam crawled up from the ground, holding his bleeding arm, pointing in another direction. "He ran back to the old obstetrics records warehouse." My heart sank. "What's there?" Nurse Luong had only climbed halfway through the window and quickly said: "The remaining original copy of the footprint paper." Tran Bach Xuyen wants to destroy evidence. I didn't pay attention to my painful hand and followed the police to the other end of the hallway. Downstairs, the children were taken out of the yard. Tan Man's voice finally recovered
headphones. "Manh Thanh, Tieu Man is safe." "An An is also here." My steps stopped, tears almost fell. But the next second, I heard Tan Man say: "Tham Nghien is missing." I suddenly turned my head. During the chaos just now, I really didn't see him anymore. In the smoke, a cough was heard. A staggering figure rushed up from the second floor stairs. It's Tham Nghien. I don't know when the drawstring on his hand was cut off, his wrist was full of blood. Seeing me, the first question he asked was: "Where are the children?" I said: “It's safe.” He seemed to have lost all his strength, holding on to the wall and panting. I didn't step forward to help him. Seeing my bleeding hand, his eyes stung. "Thanh Thanh, I'm sorry." I walked past him. "Saying this now doesn't work." The door to the old file warehouse opened slightly. Inside the fire is bright and dark. Tran Bach Xuyen stood in front of the filing cabinet, holding a stack of yellowed papers in his hand. The bottom of the cabinet was set on fire. Seeing us, he burst out laughing. "It's too late." "Burn all these things, no one will be able to say who carried who away that year." Nurse Luong rushed in from behind, her voice also changed. "Tran Bach Xuyen, how long do you want to destroy?" He stared at her. "If you hadn't kept another record that year, this would have been over."
