Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — On a 5-day business trip, I called the police to kick my husband's entire family out of the house
Going on a 5-day business trip, the house password was changed — At 2:00 a.m. I led the police to chase my husband's family out of my apartment. After a five-day business trip, I came home in the middle of the night and called the police to chase my husband's family out of my apartment at 2:17 in the morning. I pulled my suitcase and stepped out of the elevator. After five days of work, having just gotten off a red-eye flight at night, the only thing I wanted was to fall into a familiar bed and sleep until morning. But when I reached the door of apartment 1702, I stopped. In front of the door were three black garbage bags, the tops of the bags loosely tied, revealing the collars of a few of my shirts. Besides, there were also cosmetic boxes, laptop bags and two pairs of high heels thrown haphazardly on the hallway tile floor. I took out my phone, opened the door lock app, and entered the password.
“Title —— incorrect password.”
I entered again.
“Title —— incorrect password.”
My finger hovered on the screen for three seconds, I took a deep breath and dialed 110.
“Hello, Cam Thanh police station please listen.”
"Hello, my name is Lam Van Tinh, I live in building 17, Phi Thuy Loan area, apartment 1702. Currently, I am locked out of my own house. The door lock password was illegally changed, and my personal belongings were thrown into the hallway."
“Can you confirm that this is real estate in your name?”
I opened the photo album, scrolled to the photo of the house purchase contract signed in 2019. In the buyer section there were only three words: Lam Van Tinh.
"Buy the whole thing before marriage, pay once. The ownership certificate only has my name."
“Okay, we will send someone right away.”
After hanging up the phone, I leaned my back against the wall, staring at the trash bags at my feet. In there are the office clothes I wore for three years. Inside the apartment there was also the sound of people talking. Not just one person. Twelve minutes later, two police officers stepped out of the elevator. I immediately showed them my phone to see a photo of the sales contract and certificate of ownership.
"Sir, this apartment is personal property I bought before marriage. I went on a business trip for five days, and when I returned, I discovered that the password had been changed and things were thrown out. I asked to be allowed into my house."
The older policeman looked over the contract and nodded.
“Knock on the door.”
I rang the doorbell. Ten seconds later, the door opened. The person who opened the door was not Chu Hao Nam. It's my mother-in-law, Tien Que Phuong. She was wearing pajamas and her hair was messy. As soon as I saw the two policemen behind me, my face immediately stiffened.
“You… did you really call the police?”
“I asked you a question.” I don't call her mother anymore. “Why did you arbitrarily change my house password?”
She blocked the door, her voice immediately rising:
"Your house, what is your house? This is my son's house!"
“The certificate of ownership is in my name.”
"Marrying into the Chu family for three years and still not being able to give birth to a child, do you still have the face to say that this house is yours?"
I didn't answer, just turned to look at the police. The older policeman took a step forward.
"Sister, we have verified. The legal owner of this apartment is Ms. Lam Van Tinh. You are neither the homeowner nor the tenant. If the owner asks you to leave, you need to cooperate."
Tien Que Phuong's face turned red.
"She is my daughter-in-law! This is my son's house!"
“Is Chu Hao Nam in there?” I asked.
There were footsteps inside. Chu Hao Nam appeared behind his mother ta. White t-shirt, shorts, messy hair. For the past three years, he has always been polite and neat in front of me. This appearance now makes me feel extremely strange.
“Van Tinh, why did you call the police?” He frowned. “Is there something that can't be said properly?”
“Speak properly?”
I pointed to the pile of trash bags on the ground.
“Who threw my stuff out?”
He was silent. Tien Que Phuong immediately interrupted:
"What if I throw it there? You're not at home, My Ky wants to move in, what's the problem with giving her a room?"
Chu Hao Nam's older sister just divorced last month. I looked straight at him.
“You agree?”
He avoided my eyes.
“Chu Hao Nam.” I called him by his full name. “You agree to let your sister move in, then throw my things out?”
He finally opened his mouth:
"Just staying for a few days. I'm on a business trip, there's no use for that room..."
“This is my home.”
I speak very softly. But the entire hallway immediately fell silent. The policeman coughed softly.
"Mr. Chu, Ms. Lam is the sole owner of this apartment. She has the right to decide who can stay. Now she is asking those who do not have ownership rights to leave, hoping everyone will cooperate."
Tien Que Phuong shouted loudly:
"On what basis? Since he married my son, he belongs to the Chu family! This house... ——"
“Mrs. Tien.” The young police officer interrupted. “If she continues to cause trouble, she will be considered obstructing the performance of public duties.”
I stood at the door, slowly saying each word:
"Tonight, everyone must leave my house. Including you, Chu Hao Nam."
To this day, I still clearly remember Chu Hao Nam's expression at that time. Not angry. It's not about feeling sorry for yourself. Which is a surprise. It's like a gambler who thinks he has a good hand, but when he flips the cards, he discovers that the other person has long since wiped out all the money on the table. He was stunned for two seconds and then smiled like the "mediator" familiar for the past three years.
"Van Tinh, don't get excited. You're still making such a big deal in the middle of the night..."
“I don't make a big deal out of it.”
I bent down and pulled my laptop bag out of the pile of trash bags, carrying it in my hand.
“Within thirty minutes, you and your mother must leave here.”
“By tomorrow morning, all of your sister's things will have to be cleaned up.”
Tien Que Phuong rushed straight in front of me, saliva almost splashed on his face.
"Lin Van Tinh, don't be unreasonable! My son lived with you for three years, you couldn't give birth to a single child, the Chu family hasn't kicked you out yet and they already respect you!"
I bowed my head and laughed.
“Can't have children?”
I looked up and looked at Chu Hao Nam.
"How about you tell your mother? How many prenatal tests have we done in the past three years? What were the results?"
Chu Hao Nam's throat moved slightly. He said nothing. I know he won't say. Because the three inspections and three reports were all written very clearly. The person with the problem… isn't me. But for the past three years, at every family gathering, Tien Que Phuong pointed straight at me and scolded me that "the hen doesn't know how to lay", and Chu Hao Nam never corrected me even a single sentence.
“Forget it.”
I moved my eyes and turned to the police.
"Would you two please make a record for me? If they still haven't left within thirty minutes, I'll request a forced removal."
The older policeman nodded.
