Chapter 3
Chapter 3 — On a 5-day business trip, I called the police to kick my husband's entire family out of the house
Leaving Tu Manh's office, I did not go home. I go to the company. September in Cam Thanh is still hot, the bright white sunlight reflects on the glass of the financial center. I entered the main door of Due Hang Design Company, the receptionist Tieu Tran looked at me with surprise.
"Miss Lam? Didn't you just get off the plane today? Don't you have a day off?"
"No need."
I took off my bag.
“The project at hand still needs to be continued.”
I returned to work, opened the computer to process two emails first, then took out Tran Duong's business card. Hesitating for five seconds, I still called.
“Hello, who is it?”
"Hello Mr. Tran Duong, I am a friend of lawyer Tu Manh. My name is Lam Van Tinh."
“Oh, lawyer Tu's friend.” The voice on the other side was very calm. “What's the matter?”
“I want to do a marriage investigation.”
“Investigate who?”
“My husband, Chu Hao Nam.”
“Which direction do you want to investigate?”
“Assets, debt, social relationships.”
I stopped for a beat.
“Is he having an affair or not?”
"Okay." The other person answered very briefly. “Send me his personal information, workplace and regular contact number via WeChat.”
"The advance fee is 10,000 yuan, the balance will be calculated later. The preliminary results will be available in three days."
After hanging up, I opened WeChat and sent all the information. Having finished everything, I felt a strange calmness. Like a patient who finally decided to go on the operating table. It might hurt. But at least there's no need to continue living with the tumor anymore. At two o'clock in the afternoon, my phone rang. Chu Hao Nam. I looked at the name on the screen, let it ring for the sixth time before picking up.
“Van Tinh, what happened last night…”
"Don't you think you're a little too excited? In front of the police, if you chase me and my mother out, everyone in the neighborhood will see it. It's very embarrassing."
I laughed softly.
"Your mother has been in that area for more than half a year. Who else will she meet in the future?"
I leaned back in the chair.
“Your mother lived in my house for more than half a year, and without my consent, she changed the door password, threw my things out, and let your sister take over my office…”
“Then you asked me again…”
“Who else can she meet in the future?”
The other end of the line was silent for a few seconds.
“I know my mother didn't do the right thing, but you don't need to make things so unsightly…”
“Chu Hao Nam.”
“I don't want to argue over the phone.”
I looked at the computer screen in front of me.
“Saturday afternoon, two o'clock, I'll go to Phi Thuy Loan.”
“Let's talk face to face.”
“What?”
“You will know when you come.”
I hung up. The colleague sitting next to him, To Tieu Doanh, poked his head over.
“Miss Van Tinh, are you okay?”
"No problem."
“But your face looks so bad…”
I smiled faintly.
“Having worked overtime for a few days in a row, I'm a little tired.”
She didn't ask any more. Before leaving work, I received a WeChat message from Tran Duong.
“Miss Lam, there is a preliminary situation that needs to be informed to you in advance.”
"Her husband currently has a consumer loan in his personal name, limit of 300,000 yuan, opened since September last year. There is still an outstanding debt of 220,000 yuan."
“Do you know this money?”
300,000 yuan consumer loan. I don't know at all. I replied:
“Don't know.”
“What was that money used for?”
“Still investigating.” He replied very quickly. “In addition, he also has a credit card with a limit of 50,000 yuan, which has currently been swiped 48,000 yuan.”
My fingertips are a little numb.
"Next Please continue to investigate for me.”
Turning off the phone screen, I leaned back in the chair and closed my eyes for a few seconds. 300,000 yuan. Every month, Chu Hao Nam earns 15,000 yuan, gives his mother 5,000 yuan, and has about 10,000 yuan left. For the past three years, he has always complained about not having enough money, and sometimes I even transfer him 1,000–2,000 yuan in pocket money. As a result... Behind my back, he borrowed 300,000 yuan. Where did that money end up? Saturday afternoon, Chu Hao Nam appeared on time in the Phi Thuy Loan area. From the balcony, I saw his car — a white Honda that I had paid for in installments for three years — stopping at the entrance to the parking garage. He went up with the key. I haven't changed the lock yet, just changed the door password. When he pushed the door open and entered, he glanced around as if to confirm whether there was anyone else in the house or not. I pointed towards the sofa. He sat down in a very relaxed manner, his legs wide open, his arms resting on the sofa armrests. Like this is his house. In fact, for the past three years, he has always thought that this is his home.
“Van Tinh, what happened that day was really what your mother did wrong. I told her, told her to apologize to me..."
“No need to apologize.”
“So what do you want?”
I took out the documents from under the tea table and placed them in front of him.
“Divorce agreement.”
Chu Hao Nam bowed his head and looked at the documents. For several seconds there was no movement. Then he burst out laughing.
“Van Tinh, you're not serious, are you?”
“I'm serious.”
“Just because I changed the lock? Throw in some clothes? That's not enough to get a divorce..."
“It's not about that.”
“So what is it for?”
I looked straight into his eyes.
“Chu Hao Nam.”
“That 300,000 yuan consumer loan…”
“When are you going to tell me?”
The smile on his face stiffened. Just for a moment. Less than half a second. Then it was immediately covered by another expression. He relaxed his body and leaned back in the chair, his fingers unconsciously stroking the sofa armrest.
“You investigate me?”
“You secretly borrowed 300,000 yuan from me.”
“Don't I have the right to ask where that money goes?”
“It's your personal expenses…”
“Debt incurred during marriage can be considered joint debt.”
I interrupted him.
“There is still an unpaid debt of 220,000 yuan.”
“If we divorce now, it is very likely that I will have to bear half the burden.”
“So of course I had to ask for clarification.”
Chu Hao Nam stood up, put his hands in his pockets, and walked back and forth a few steps in the living room.
“I lent you a loan to do business.”
“I'm not used to it.”
“Where is the loan note?”
He was silent.
“Chu Hao Nam.”
I looked at him, the corners of my lips curled coldly.
“When you lie, can you be a little more thoughtful?”
He suddenly turned around. The expression became serious. That's an appearance I haven't seen in the past three years.
“Lam Van Tinh.”
“Don't overdo it.”
“I admit my mother did wrong. But divorce?”
“Just this little thing makes you want a divorce?”
“Don't you feel sorry for the past three years?”
“The past three years?”
I stood up, facing him.
“For the past three years, I paid 3,500 yuan for the car every month.”
“Electricity and water bills, management fees, I pay all of them.”
“You stay at my house.”
“Drive the car I paid for in installments.”
“I came back from a business trip to find that I was evicted from my house.”
“Even now you still ask me…”
“What is considered a mistake for the past three years?”
Chu Hao Nam opened his mouth. But no What can I say?
“I'll leave the deal here.”
“You can find a lawyer to look at it and then answer me.”
I sat back on the sofa and picked up the phone.
“I give you a week.”
He bent down to look at the first page of the agreement, pointing to a line.
“The house belongs to you?”
“Originally mine.”
“I pay the deposit, I also pay the monthly installment.”
“So you have nothing left?”
“Prorated Joint Account.”
“Your share is about 36,000 yuan.”
He looked at me for a long time. Take a step back. Then take another step back.
“I didn't sign.”
“Then go to court.”
Chu Hao Nam habitually picked up the car keys on the tea table. But the movement suddenly stopped. Then he slowly put down the key.
“And this car…”
“Before next week, please return the car to me.”
An emotion flashed across Chu Hao Nam's face. Not satisfied? It's not important anymore. He turned around and left without looking back. The sound of the door slamming echoed throughout the apartment.
