Chapter 2
Chapter 2 — On Doan Ngo Day, They Forced Me to Give Up My House to My Younger Brother
She was asked until she was speechless.
"We're a family, talking about money won't hurt our feelings."
Dad's face darkened.
"Van Van, in name you have the Lam family name. For many years, you have eaten at the Lam family and stayed at the Lam family. Now that your family is in trouble, you can't just think about yourself."
I put down my chopsticks.
“That house was bought by me.”
Mother immediately objected:
"Buy it yourself? Where's the money to buy it yourself? If it weren't for the family that raised the children, sent them to school, could they work, could they save money?"
Lam Dieu burst out laughing.
"Sister, don't elevate yourself too much. Aren't your current achievements all thanks to previous investment from your family?"
The cousin sitting next to her said in a low voice:
“But after going to work, Van Van always sends money home.”
Second Aunt immediately glared at her.
“The adults are talking, why are you interrupting?”
The eldest aunt also spoke up:
"What's the point of buying a house for a girl? After getting married, won't the house also become the property of outsiders?"
Uncle Ba slammed on the table.
"Tieu Dieu is different. He must get married and continue the Lam family."
I looked around the dining table.
“So everyone called me back today to force me to hand over the house?”
"Don't say such harsh words. This is to help your younger brother."
Dad coldly continued:
"You are not a member of the Lam family. The Lam family's assets are not yours to enjoy. It is already very meaningful for your parents not to kick you out of the house."
To Man raised his head to look at me, his voice was gentle but full of calculation.
"Sister, I know this comes too suddenly for you. But Tieu Dieu and I really want to live together."
“Do you know that apartment was bought by me?”
She bit her lip.
"Whoever's name a house is in doesn't mean it belongs to that person. Your aunt and uncle have raised you for so many years, you should repay it."
I nodded.
“You have a pretty good tongue.”
Lam Dieu began to lose patience.
"Sister, tell me straight. To change names or not to change names?"
Mom pushed a stack of papers towards me.
"I've already asked the broker about the procedure. You just need to sign your name."
I glanced over. Even my citizen identification number was filled out.
"Today all relatives are present. Everyone can also testify."
Dad added:
"So that you don't turn over in the future."
I picked up the stack of papers. Then calmly tear it in half. The sound of tearing paper echoed clearly in the quiet room. Lam Dieu jumped up from the chair. I put the scraps of paper back on the table.
“I don't agree.”
Mother's hand trembled slightly.
“What...what did you just say?”
“I do not agree to change the name.”
“That house is mine.”
My father slammed on the table.
“Are you planning to rebel?”
The plate of rice cake on the table was shaken to the point of bouncing. To Man was startled and took half a step back. Aunt Hai immediately spoke up:
"Van Van, you really don't understand anything! Your parents raised you all this time, so you repay me like that?"
Uncle Ba snorted coldly:
“A child being held by mistake still dares to compete for a house with the Lam family?”
The eldest boy spoke in a low voice:
"Van Van, don't make things too unsightly. Do you really want to make your parents lose face in front of all relatives?"
I looked at my father.
“Aren't you the ones who called me back and publicly declared that I'm not your biological child?”
Mother's eyes were red.
"My parents are also reluctant. Tieu Dieu's wedding is the most important thing. Su's family is next door The family is pressing very urgently.”
Lam Dieu pointed straight at me.
“Stop pretending to be pitiful. Now she lives in a new house, drives a nice car, and wears branded clothes every day. What about me? Even getting married is looked down upon by the bride's family."
I calmly replied:
“Then get to work.”
His face immediately darkened.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, you have to find the wedding house yourself.”
To Man spoke softly:
“Sister, Tieu Dieu is not without effort. He just hasn't had the right opportunity yet."
My eyes stopped on the jade bracelet on her wrist.
“Does that bracelet look right on your hand?”
To Man quickly hid his hands behind his back. My mother immediately said:
“It was my mother who gave it to me. She's about to become the Lam family's daughter-in-law, so what's wrong with wearing a bracelet?"
I laughed.
“The birthday gift I gave my mother, she turned around and gave it to her?”
Mother replied with reason:
“If you give it to your mother, it's yours. It's up to you who you want to give to."
I nodded.
“I understand.”
Dad said in a low voice:
“Lam Van, stop talking nonsense. The house issue must be resolved today.”
“Can't solve it.”
Aunt Hai immediately shrilled:
“Why can't it be resolved? Since I've made it clear to this point, you're not my biological child, so why bother keeping that house?"
I picked up my bag.
“Then I'll go.”
Lam Dieu immediately blocked the door.
“If you don't sign today, don't even step out of here.”
My cousin stood up.
“Tieu Dieu, what are you doing? Say something slowly.”
Lam Dieu glared at her.
“Shut up. This is my family's story."
I looked at him.
“Get away.”
He laughed.
“Sister, even if I call you once, you already respect me. Don't really think you're that important.”
Next to him, To Man gently pulled his sleeve.
“Tieu Dieu, don't scare her.”
I coldly said:
“She's not afraid. She was waiting for me to sign.”
To Man's face immediately turned pale.
“You...how could you think of me like that?”
Dad pointed straight at me.
“Lam Van, you are becoming more and more unreasonable every day.”
"If I'm not a biological child, then from now on I don't need to send living expenses every month anymore, right?"
Mom immediately panicked.
“Why can't you send it? Mom and Dad raised you for so many years, you have to be responsible!”
"The house is not divided to me, but the money still wants to be taken from me?"
My mother was speechless when I asked her. The eldest son spoke in conciliation:
“Van Van, it is impossible to calculate like that. Love is not a matter of buying and selling.”
I smiled faintly.
“But didn't you just make a very clear calculation?”
The whole room immediately fell silent. Mom changed her tone, starting to soften.
“Van Van, I know you have had a very hard time over the past few years. But my brother really can't wait any longer."
“Consider loving your mother once, okay?”
She reached out to hold me. I dodged aside. Her hand floated in mid-air. Her voice choked:
“Now even your mother hates it?”
I calmly replied:
“I'm just afraid that mom will give my things to someone else.”
Lam Dieu was so angry that he burst out laughing.
“Very well, Lam Van. You really have guts.”
“Not signed, right?”
“Then I will tell everyone that you are ungrateful.”
I shrugged. Dad stood up.
“Do you think it's terrible to have your name written on the red book?”
“We can completely follow the law.”
“I'm not human Lam family. I used the Lam family's money to buy a house, so that house has ownership problems."
I looked straight into his eyes.
“Are you sure you want to follow the legal process?”
"Of course."
His voice was full of confidence. As if victory was firmly in hand. I put my bag on my shoulder.
“Let's go then.”
My mother was stunned.
“What do you mean?”
“The meaning is as true as the words.”
I walked towards the door. Lam Dieu was still standing there.
