Chapter 15
Chapter 15 — Once I don't hold back, your whole family has to pay the price
He screamed, raising his hands high. I closed my eyes. the slap... didn't fall. I opened my eyes. His hand stopped in midair… shaking violently. On his face... there was struggle, pain, and a bit of ridiculously redundant emotion. In the end… he still didn't fight. He let go of my hand. But he used his body... to block me between the car and him. His voice suddenly softened. He… cried.
“Let's go home… okay?”
“Let's not divorce anymore… forget everything… start over.”
“My mother… I won't let her bother you anymore.”
“Chu Dong… I will make him pay you.”
“Let's go back to how we were before… okay?”
He was talking crazy. Like a drowning person... can grab anything. I just feel… terrible. A person just raised his hand to hit you. Seconds later, he knelt down again and begged. Fake to the point of being pitiful.
“Chu Minh.”
“You and I… can't go back.”
I interrupted.
"Cannot!"
He exploded again.
“It's definitely because there's someone else!”
“It's Luc Trach, right!”
“He has money, power, and is more handsome than me!”
“I saw him right away!”
“I will go find him!”
“I'll tell everyone… he's the one who ruined other people's families!”
He actually turned around and staggered towards the elevator. Want to go upstairs. Want to cause chaos at the law firm. My heart clenched. I immediately chased him—reached out…to hold him tight. I can't let him go up top. We cannot let him cause chaos and ruin the law firm's reputation.
“Chu Minh, are you crazy!”
I held his arm tightly. But he seemed to have found a place to vent his anger, suddenly turned around, and pushed with all his might. Everything happened so fast. I lost momentum. The whole person fell backwards. The back of my head... hit the front of the car next to me hard. A dry "click" sound. The world... immediately turned upside down. Severe pain flared up, ears ringing, all sounds seemed distorted. A warm stream... flows down the back of my neck. Vision... gradually blurred. Before I lost consciousness, I could only see— Chu Minh's face was pale, his eyes panicked like he was having a nightmare. The world is spinning. Blinding white light... intertwined with blurry human silhouettes. Someone called my name. The voice was urgent... but distant, as if from a very far away place. I felt myself being lifted up. The body feels light... floating. The smell of antiseptic filled my nose. I tried to open my eyes... but my eyelids were as heavy as lead. Consciousness floats... sinks and floats again in a chaotic area. When I woke up— I was lying on a pure white hospital bed. The back of the hand has an infusion needle inserted. The cold fluid... slowly flows into the body. Room was very quiet. There was only the steady sound of the machine "whirring... beeping...". I turned my head slightly. A dull pain in the back of my neck immediately came, causing me to take a sharp breath.
“Don't move.”
A familiar deep voice rang out. I looked over. He's not wearing a suit. Just a white shirt, the sleeves rolled up casually. Glasses have also been removed. Eyes… deeper and clearer than ever. His face looked a bit tired, even revealing his unshaven green beard.
“You… why are you here?”
My voice is hoarse.
“I was attacked, in the parking lot.”
His voice was low and heavy.
“Head impact, slight concussion, another three centimeter laceration… five stitches.”
He said briefly. Memories... immediately returned. Chu Minh's crazy face. Full-strength push. The pain felt like it was tearing my head apart. My heart… sank.
“Where is Chu Minh?”
“The police took me away.”
His voice turned cold.
“I went back to get it documents, just in time to see the camera recording everything.”
“Intentionally causing injury, the evidence is clear.”
“I let the best criminal lawyer take over.”
“I guarantee… he will pay.”
I looked at him. Look at the undisguised anger and worry in his eyes. In my heart... a very strange feeling arose. Fear remains. The anger has not gone away. And a little warmth... crept in very gently. When I was at my weakest. It was you who appeared. It's you... standing in charge of everything.
“Thank you.”
This time... it's no longer polite. Luc Trach looked at me. His eyes softened.
“Rest, leave the other things…to me.”
He reached out and adjusted the corner of the blanket for me. The tip of the finger accidentally touches the back of the hand. I trembled slightly. At that moment— the room door opened. The mother-in-law rushed in like the wind. Behind him was Chu Dong, his face pale.
“Lam Thu! This bastard! Haven't you harmed my son enough?
She rushed forward. Eyes bloodshot, hands waving wildly. Not the slightest bit guilty. No regrets at all. There is only... hatred. Hate the victim. Luc Trach immediately stood up. Blocking the front of my bed. Like an impenetrable wall.
“This is the hospital room, please come out.”
His voice was cold to the bone.
“Who the hell are you!”
“This is my family's story! You are an outsider, what right do you have to interfere?
