Chapter 6
Chapter 6 — Once I don't hold back, your whole family has to pay the price
I slept the deepest in the past three years, no dreams, no waking up in the middle of the night, just complete silence embracing me. When I woke up the next morning, sunlight had filtered through the curtains and gently fell onto the carpet, like a gentle greeting to a new life. I stretched, the feeling of fatigue in my body was wiped away, my whole body felt light as if it had just escaped invisible shackles. The phone had several missed calls, all from Chu Minh, along with more than a dozen unread messages. I opened it and took a look, my eyes without any emotion. At first he asked me where I was and told me to come back. Next is apologizing, saying he was wrong, and asking for my forgiveness. As for the following news... it revealed a mixture of pleading and blame.
“Thu Thu, has our love for many years really ended because of this?”
"Mom is about to get sick, Dong Dong is also panicking, can't you go home and see them for me?"
"You changed your number, quit your job, what do you really want? Do you have to force my family to come along with you to be satisfied?"
I finished reading. Say nothing. Just press and hold, then delete. The world... was quiet again as if nothing had ever happened. I stood up, washed my face, and changed into a neat business suit. The woman in the mirror... her face was rosy, her eyes were clear, she was no longer the haggard wife of yesterday. I put on light makeup, adjusted my spirit, and was ready to embark on a new journey. At ten o'clock in the morning, Giang Dao came to pick me up on time. He took me to the most luxurious office building in the city.
“Hang Thien Law Firm.”
I looked at the gilded words in front of my eyes, feeling a little nervous. His senior brother's name is Luc Trach. About thirty-five years old, elegant appearance, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, but his body exudes a calm temperament, containing an unfathomable sharpness. Giang Dao briefly introduced me. Luc Trach gently pushed his glasses, his eyes stopped on me, carrying a clear assessment.
“Miss Lam, I saw your file.”
"Her university achievements are excellent, her graduation thesis was also considered the best of the year."
He paused for a moment, his eyes deepening a layer.
“I'm very curious... why did you give up your major and work an office job that has nothing to do with law?”
A question... straight and sharp as a blade. I took a deep breath and frankly met his gaze.
“Because of a failed marriage.”
“I used to think, sacrificing career for family... was a kind of virtue.”
“But reality tells me, if a woman gives up on her own growth… in the end she just becomes someone else's shadow, is overlooked, and then thrown away.”
My answer made Luc Trach's eyes flash with surprise, then quickly turned into appreciation.
“Very good answer.”
“It seems that marriage… made you grow up quite a bit.”
He took out a file from the drawer and placed it in front of me.
“This is a recent case the company received, quite difficult.”
“The plaintiff is the founder of a small technology company, accusing his former partner of stealing core technology, setting up a new company and robbing all customers.”
“The problem is... the chain of evidence is not complete, a lot of important evidence is in the hands of the defendant.”
"The previous team of lawyers followed this case for two months, there was no progress, and they almost gave up."
I Pick up the document and read it quickly. The case is a tangled mess, involving patents, trade secrets, and relationships as tangled as a spider's web.
“What do you want me to do?”
I raised my head and asked.
“I give you three days.” Luc Trach looked at me, his eyes carrying a challenge.
“I don't need a complete plan, I just want to see your thinking.”
“As long as I can find a breakthrough, no matter how small… I will specially accept you as an intern on my team.”
A big challenge. Also a rare opportunity. I know… you're testing to see if the past three years have worn me out. The blood in my body... started to heat up. The feeling of facing challenges... hasn't been there for a long time, but now it's back.
“Okay, I accept.”
I don't hesitate. Leaving the law firm, it was noon. Giang Dao looked at me holding a thick stack of documents and burst out laughing.
“How is it, any pressure?”
"Have." I'm telling the truth. “But… it's more exciting.”
“I know.” He started the car. “I was born to do this.”
"I won't bother you for the next three days. My hotel room has been extended, so you can study in peace."
“If you need anything, just call me.”
