Chapter 6
Chapter 6 — Queen of the Apocalypse
I looked at that operating table, my heart beating violently.
“You said you only drew blood to check.”
The person wearing glasses did not answer, just pointed at the operating table.
“Lie up.”
I stood there without moving. Two people wearing white blouses came, one on the left and one on the right, holding me tightly.
“Don't touch me!” I struggled, "You said you only drew blood to check! What is this!"
The person wearing glasses walked over and looked down at me.
“Little girl,” he said, “in the end of the world, you must learn to accept the truth.”
He waved his hand. The other two pressed me onto the operating table, locking straps on my wrists and ankles. Cold metal pressed against my skin, I struggled but couldn't escape. The person wearing glasses took down a test tube from the shelf, inside was a dark red liquid.
“What is this?” My voice trembled.
“Zombie virus extract.” He said, "Our research has found that normal people's constitutions are more susceptible to rejection reactions, and the antibodies produced by the rejection reaction are the key to vaccine research."
He walked over holding a test tube.
“If you're lucky, you'll awaken your powers.” He said, "If you're unlucky..."
He did not continue. But I know. If I'm unlucky, I'll turn into a zombie. The moment the needle pierced my neck, I closed my eyes. In front of my eyes appeared my mother's face, my father's silent back, and my brother's bowed head. There is also Tieu Vu's sparkling eyes. Fluid is pushed into the blood vessels. First is cold. Then it's hot. Then it was as if there were countless ants crawling in the blood vessels, from the neck down to the limbs, from the limbs crawling into the internal organs. Painful. It hurt so much that I clenched my teeth, it hurt so much that my whole body trembled, it hurt so much that I—— Screamed out loud. That is not a human voice. Chapter Six: The Zombie Tide The belt's metal buckle burst open. I rolled off the operating table, fell face down on the ground, my limbs twisted into an impossible angle. I heard my own bones cracking, heard strange sounds coming from my throat, heard the glasses wearer scream——
"Overdose! She's mutated! Prepare to be destroyed!"
The door opened, three guns pointed at me. But at that moment, an earth-shattering scream suddenly rang out outside. Not one. It's thousands and thousands of children. Zombie tide. The alarm goes straight through the eardrum.
"The zombie tide attacks the city! All combat personnel take position!"
The guards stopped for a moment, their gun barrels also wobbled. It was in that moment of stupor that I rushed out. I don't know how I moved either. The limbs no longer obey orders, but the speed is surprisingly fast. Walls, ceilings, hallways—I jumped, climbed, and traversed those surfaces, like a hunted wild animal. The sound of gunfire behind me chased me. But not in time. When I rushed out of the ground, I saw the most shocking scene of my life. The outermost defense line of the stadium has been broken. Containers were overturned, trucks were thrown, thousands and thousands of zombies flooded in like a tide. The supernatural beings struggled, killed and fell in that wave. Walls of fire, walls of ice, lightning, metal storms — all kinds of magical lights mixed together, but there were too many zombies, too many, basically impossible to kill them all. I see my father. He stood at the front line of defense, the flames all over his body had dimmed, as if about to fall. Next to him lay the corpses of more than a dozen supernatural beings, as well as more than a hundred corpses and fragments of undead corpses. But the living dead are still coming, endlessly. I see my mother. Her ice wall built up layer after layer, then layer after layer was broken, her face turned terrifyingly white. The supernatural beings behind her were screaming and running away, but she did not retreat. She stood in place, layer after layer building up the ice wall. I see my brother. He used his ability to teleport through the zombies, saving each survivor. His whole body was covered in blood, not sure if it was his own or the zombie's. But every time he saves a person, his speed slows down a bit. Your powers are about to run out. A zombie broke through my father's firewall and rushed towards him. My father raised his hand, only a few sparks of fire appeared in his palm. Fear appeared in his eyes for the first time. Just as the zombie was about to bite him, I rushed forward. I also don't know why. Perhaps it's instinct. Perhaps the thing called "daughter" in my body hasn't completely died yet. I stood in front of my father, the zombie's teeth sunk into my neck. Painful. Then blood gushed out. The zombie took a breath. Then it stopped. Its eyes changed from opaque gray to clear yellow. It let me go and took a step back. Then it knelt down. I looked at it blankly, at the wound on my neck that was closing, at the tooth marks on my wrist that were still bleeding but no longer painful. More zombies came. They surrounded me. Then—— One by one they knelt down. Golden eyes. Patches, patches of yellow eyes. The zombie tide stopped.
