Chapter 8
Chapter 8 — The Day I Left the Chu Family
He carefully moved half a step closer, his eyes filled with humble pleading.
“On Kieu, I swear to you, you and Lam Nhiem really have nothing.”
He raised his hand and pointed to the sky, swearing an oath. I still remained indifferent.
"After you left, I asked to transfer Lam Nhiem to another department, moreover, look..."
He took out his phone.
“I pinned your message to the top, my phone is no longer on silent mode, if you call, I will be by your side immediately.”
I pushed his phone away. Absolutely do not want to look.
“Phong Dien, I don't need it anymore.”
Once, I longed for you to put me first. But his first position turned into Lam Nhiem. Now I don't need it anymore. He wanted to forcibly stuff it back to me.
“On Kieu, I'm sorry.”
His throat slid up and down, the edges of his eyes were red, and his voice carried an undisguised choking.
"Everything is my fault, at that time I was too selfish, too confused, I ignored all of your resentment, and also I... indirectly killed my aunt."
In this half year, there hasn't been a day when Phong Dien hasn't regretted it. Since learning the truth about his aunt's death, he hasn't been able to sleep every night. The house was empty, there was no light waiting for him to come home, there was no one gently instructing him to eat and drink on time. The expensive hearing aid sits silently on the nightstand, reminding him every hour. He lost the girl who used to protect him from the rain and wind, the girl who loved him so deeply. 8 I gently shook my head, my eyes turned to the busy traffic in the distance, my tone was serene and relieved.
"It's all over, Phong Dien, I won't forgive you."
The pain that tears apart the heart. Long nights of not being able to sleep. Little by little I have overcome it. I have exhausted my heart because of this emotional episode. Because of him, I lost my hearing in my right ear. In the end, he still had to endure the pain of losing his mother. If you no longer love, then the word forgiveness does not exist. Phong Dien stood frozen in place, looking at my appearance as light as a feather, the pain in his heart became even more intense. He hoped I'd make a fuss. Hope I question him. The only thing I don't want is to see this look of my letting go.
“Can't get through.”
He stubbornly spoke up, his voice hoarse and low, carrying almost crazy regret.
"I can't make it through this life. On Kieu, I know I made a mistake, can you... give me one more chance to make up for it?"
Phong Dien tried reaching out his hand. Want to touch me. But when he met my indifferent eyes, he retreated in frustration.
“Compensate?”
I smiled softly.
"How to make up for it? Make up for the fact that I had to wait for you all day to propose? Make up for my mother's life because she couldn't be cured in time? Or make up for the love I've had for you for so many years?"
Three questions left him speechless. His face immediately turned pale.
“I know I can't make it up.”
Phong Dien's hands hanging at his side were clenched tightly, his knuckles were white.
"I don't dare to have the luxury of asking you to forgive me, I just... just don't want to completely lose you."
For the past half year, he has completely distanced himself from Lam Nhiem. Experiencing shock passed away, he finally came to his senses. He deleted all means of contact with Lam Nhiem, canceled message pins and emergency contacts. Intentionally avoid all work communication related to her. He knew that the favor he had for Lam Nhiem was never an appreciation at all, just a new feeling of awesomeness, a false illusion after blind comparison. And On Kieu - the person he lost, is the lover who deserves to be cherished the most in life.
