Chapter 8 — The Day I Take It All Back

I looked at him coldly.

“You only have two options.”

“Or don't say it.”

“I can consider making sure your parents don't have to sleep under the bridge when they get old.”

“And if not…”

“We'll meet in court.”

My words were like a blade, cutting off his last ray of hope. Tran Hao's face immediately turned white. Tran Chinh Duc, sitting next to him, suddenly elbowed him hard.

“Quickly take it out!”

“What are you still doing sitting there?!”

Tran Hao felt like he was electrocuted. He trembled as he opened the briefcase he carried with him. Then took out a kraft paper bag. He placed the paper bag on the table and slowly pushed it towards me.

“Nem Niem…”

“See for yourself.”

"After watching, you'll know I didn't lie to you."

I walked over and picked up the paper bag. Not heavy. Inside there seemed to be only a few sheets of paper. I opened the bag and pulled out the contents. The first thing that catches your eye... is the hospital test form. The moment I saw the name at the top of the paper… My pupils suddenly constricted. Not my name. Nor is the name Tran Hao. It's a completely unfamiliar female name. The content of the test form... is confirmation of pregnancy along with pregnancy indicators. There is also an ultrasound plate below. A tiny gestational sac appears extremely clearly. In that moment… My mind went blank.

“What is this?”

Even my own voice felt strange to me. Tran Hao didn't dare look at me. He bowed his head, his voice so low it was almost inaudible.

“It belongs to Lam Lam…”

“She's pregnant…”

“It's your child.”

I'm a bit impressed with this name. Is Tran Hao's subordinate in the company. Also very beautiful. I met her once at his company's year-end party. That's it. No wonder they are so eager to force me to divorce. No wonder Vuong Lan always says I can't have children. It's not that I can't give birth. They had already found someone who could give birth. Even the baby was there. I just felt a stream of cold air from the soles of my feet rushing straight to the top of my head. I looked at the test card in my hand. The small black dot on the fetal ultrasound image was like a silent taunt. Before, I thought they were just greedy. Now I know... They are still shameless to this extent. I laughed. Not a cold laugh. Not a bitter smile either. But it really feels so funny. I laugh at my own stupidity. Laughing at this three year marriage… From start to finish it was just a complete farce. My laughter echoed in the quiet conference room, sounding especially shrill. The three Tran family members were all stunned and looked at me in confusion. A ray of hope even flashed on Tran Hao's face. He thought I was crazy. Or he thinks I'm using laughter to hide pain and jealousy.

“Nien Niem… don't be like that…”

I stopped laughing and raised my head to look at him. His calm eyes were like a bottomless deep lake.

“This is your card?”

I looked at Tran Hao, my eyes were calm and cold.

“Using evidence of your own adultery to threaten me?”

Tran Hao's face turned red.

“I'm not threatening you!”

“I just want you to understand that we have a new life!”

“If you continue to meddle like that, it won't benefit anyone!”

“You are a woman, you should understand…”

“A woman's biggest failure is not being able to keep her man!”

One The sound of slapping echoed throughout the meeting room. It wasn't me who took action. It's lawyer Truong. I don't know when he was standing next to me, his movements were as fast as lightning. That slap used extremely strong force. Tran Hao's face immediately swelled at a speed visible to the naked eye. The red five-finger mark was imprinted on his face. Tran Hao was beaten to the point of being stunned. Even Tran Chinh Duc and Vuong Lan were dumbfounded.

“You dare hit my son?!”

Vuong Lan was the first to regain consciousness, screamed and rushed towards lawyer Truong. Lawyer Truong took a step back, reaching out to gently push his golden glasses frame, which was not askew. The eyes behind the glasses were cold and scary.

“Mr. Tran.”

He didn't even look at Vuong Lan. Just staring at Tran Hao, every word was clear:

“I remind you of something.”

“Insulting my client…”

“It's an insult to me.”

“My temper is not very good.”

“Sometimes… I won't be able to control my hands.”

Having finished speaking, he turned to me. The voice returned to its usual gentle tone.
