Chapter 6 — The new Director is the object of attention

Before the elevator door closed, I saw him bow his head and look at the bag of apples in my hand. There was a hole in the bottom of the bag, and an apple rolled out, stopping right next to the toe of his shoe. He bent down to pick it up, but didn't chase me. The medical records room is located on the second basement floor. As soon as I opened the door, the smell of mold and old paper hit me straight in my face. Ms. Luu, the manager, gave me the key, her eyes slightly averted. "Doctor Tham, it's a loss for you." "Miss Luu, just call me Tri Ha." "I don't dare." She pushed a pile of files towards me, "Director La said, these old medical records must be reviewed within three days." I looked at the boxes half a person tall. "There are at least five thousand copies here." Ms. Luu bowed her head and fiddled with the keys. "He said you used to be the Deputy Head of the Department, your work ability is good." Hua Duong rushed in carrying breakfast. "Why didn't he tell Kieu Man to come down here and do a good job?" Ms. Luu quickly closed the door: “Tieu Hua, just keep it small.” Hua Duong stuffed a cup of soy milk into my hand: "Today I'll take half a day off to help you." "No need, you go back to the department." "Come back to see Kieu Man's appearance? I'm afraid I'll hit her on the head with an IV stick." Ms. Luu pulled out the first box: "Here are all the old medical records of Cardiology Surgery from five years ago, there are a few copies missing signatures, it's enough to supplement them." Five years ago. My hand stopped. Hua Duong saw: "What's wrong?" "Nothing." Ms. Luu pulled out a thin file folder from the bottom of the box. "This copy was kept separately, it's strange, the seal was torn." On the file bag was written a name. Luc Thanh Ha. I stared at those three words, the heat from the cup of soy milk hit my face, so hot that I had to take a step back. Hua Duong leaned closer: "Who is that?" The door was suddenly pushed open. Kieu Man stood at the door, followed by two interns. "Doctor Tham, Director La sent me to get the medical records of the Cardiovascular Surgery Department from five years ago." I used my hand to press on the file bag. "Which copy?" Kieu Man glanced at the table. "Luc Thanh Ha." Ms. Luu blurted out: "This copy has just been found." Kieu Man held out her hand: "Give it to me." I didn't move. "To get the medical records, you have to sign the registration book." Kieu Man laughed: "Doctor Tham, you're managing very tightly now." "That's the records room's regulations." "Director Luc wants to see." She raised her voice, "Are you going to stop even the Director's work?" Hua Duong stood in front of me. "If the Director wants to see, tell the Director to come down and sign." Kieu Man's eyes turned cold. "Hua Duong, you're just a nurse, stop meddling in the doctor's business." Hua Duong rolled up her sleeves: "I'm also meddling in personnel matters, so what?" The two intern doctors standing behind did not dare say a word. Kieu Man suddenly raised her hand and snatched it. I withdrew my hand and pulled the file bag back. The corner of the paper grazed the back of her hand. She immediately hissed. "Tham Tri Ha, you scratched me." I looked at the red mark so faint that it was almost invisible on her hand. "Do I need to go to the emergency room?" Kieu Man turned around and left. Half an hour later, La Kien Minh led someone from the Security Department down. "Tham Tri Ha, you arbitrarily kept the medical records that the Director needed to see, and even beat people?" I pushed the registration book over. "Who wants to take it, sign it." La Kien Minh threw the book to the ground. "Do you still consider yourself the Deputy Head of the Department?" Papers were scattered all over the floor. Ms. Luu quickly sat down to pick it up, her arms and legs frantic. When Luc Nghien Tu walked in, the file room was messy as if it had just been ransacked. Kieu Man stood next to him, a piece of gauze on the back of her hand. "Director Luc, I just followed your instructions to get the medical records. Doctor Tham not only did not give them, but also did so." Luc Nghien Tu looked at the file bag under my hand. "Give them to me." I asked: "What is the reason for taking the documents?"
