Chapter 2
Chapter 2 — The new house code is 123110, I just looked at it and changed the lock
I took a photo of the medical examination report and saved it in a separate album. Then forward that email to a new mailbox you just registered. Finally, I turned off the computer and put it back. Having finished everything, I sat down on the office floor. The brick floor is very cold. The cold slowly crawled along my leg bones and spread upward. I bowed my head and looked at my hands. Not shaking at all. I even admire myself a bit. It turns out that when a person is heartbroken to the extreme, he or she may not collapse. Sometimes, she just suddenly becomes extremely quiet. At five o'clock in the afternoon, my mother called.
"How is the new house being cleaned? Will we be able to move in time on National Day?"
"Is the door lock installed yet? Has the password been decided yet?"
I was silent for two seconds.
"What is a bet?"
"Still discussing."
On the other end of the line, my mother snorted.
"What are you talking about? The house was bought by mom, so the code is for him to decide?"
I tightened my grip on the phone.
"Okay, okay, I won't say much more. Anyway, the house documents are in my name, so he can't do anything."
I replied once. After hanging up the phone, I leaned back on the sofa. Mom is right. The house is in my name. That was the support she gave me. But she did not know that her son-in-law was planning to use the door lock code of this house to celebrate the birthday of another woman's son. In the evening, Luc Hang returned very early. He carried fruit in his hand and bought Chi Tu a teddy bear.
"I got off work early today, I bought some things for you two."
He stuffed the teddy bear into Chi Tu's lap. The little girl laughed, hugging the bear's ears tightly and not letting go. Luc Hang squatted on the carpet and played with her child.
"Baby, call dad."
Chi Tu mumbled: He laughed until his eyes widened. I stood at the kitchen door, looking at that scene. A man has two children, coaxing one of them to laugh happily.
"Luc Hang."
He raised his head.
"Where were you on the night of December 31 last year?"
His hand stopped in mid-air. The teddy bear fell limply onto the carpet.
"What did you say?"
"New Year's Eve. Where are you?"
He quickly regained his natural appearance.
"It's at the company. After the year-end party, there's a New Year's Eve activity, did you forget? I even sent you a countdown video."
"Yes, I sent the video."
I nodded.
"Was that video filmed at the company?"
"Of course."
"So is the balloon wall in the background at your company?"
The smile on his face gradually disappeared. I took out my phone and opened the screenshot from that day's video. The frame is very dark. But I adjusted the brightness to the highest, then zoomed in on the top right corner. On the wall of pink and blue balloons were pasted four words.
"Welcome little prince."
Luc Hang stared at the photo. The pharynx moved slightly.
"Nien Niem, listen to my explanation first."
"Don't rush."
I put my phone away.
"What do you want to eat tonight? I'll cook."
That dinner took place in silence. Chi Tu sat on the high chair, munching on teething cakes. The girl threw the cake on the ground. Luc Hang bent down to pick it up. Picking it up for the first time, he glanced at me. Picked it up a second time, looked at me again. The third time, he finally couldn't help it.
"Nien Niem, about the video..."
"Let's talk about it later tomorrow, I'm tired."
"It's not what you think."
"What is it like?"
He opened his mouth. But couldn't say anything. Because he didn't know how much I was thinking. Don't even know me How much has been investigated? The biggest disadvantage of liars is that they never know which hole to cover first. That night, I hugged Chi Tu to sleep in the main bedroom. Luc Hang stood outside the door and knocked twice.
"Nem Niem."
I didn't reply. He stood for a moment and then left. On Tuesday, I took a day off from work. In the morning, take Chi Tu to his mother's house. Mom looked at me and asked:
"Why is your face so poor?"
"There's something going on at the company. Once it's done, I'll come pick the baby up."
At nine thirty in the morning, I drove to Luc Hang's company building. I don't go up. Just park on the side of the road and wait. Eleven forty. Luc Hang walked out of the company gate. He did not go towards the restaurant but turned to a white Honda parked on the side of the road. That car is not his. The car door opens. Luc Hang ngoi vao. I followed behind, three cars away. Twelve minutes later, the white Honda stopped in front of the gate of an old apartment complex. Ha Loan apartment complex. Luc Hang got out of the car. A woman also got down from the passenger seat. Gray hoodie. Less than six feet tall. Normal appearance, somewhat tired face. She opened the back seat door and carried a child out. Blue jumpsuit. Looks about ten months old. Luc Hang reached out to pick up the baby. Extremely skillful movements. The child's small hand grabbed his collar. He bowed his head and gently kissed the baby's forehead. The woman looked at the father and son and smiled. At that moment, I sat in the car, my fingers clutching the steering wheel tightly. I didn't rush out. Do not bang on car doors. Don't cry and ask him why he did that. I just quietly watched the three of them enter the apartment complex. Looks like a real family. I set myself a ten-minute time limit. Ten minutes later, either leave or walk in. At the seventh minute, the other woman came out of the building. She carried two lunch boxes in her hand and walked towards the fast food restaurant next door. She went to buy lunch. Luc Hang and the baby are still upstairs. I picked up my phone and opened that post again. Look at the photo of the door lock one more time.
