Chapter 3
Chapter 3 — The new house code is 123110, I just looked at it and changed the lock
1231 is the date of his son's birth. 10 is my daughter. He placed the other child in front. As for my daughter, he conveniently placed her in the back. Half an hour later, Luc Hang walked out of the apartment complex. He stood on the side of the road and waited for about a minute. A white Honda came to pick me up. The driver is a man. Luc Hang sat in the passenger seat. The car drove towards the company. I memorized the name of the apartment complex. Ha Loan apartment complex, building number 3. In the evening, when Luc Hang returned home, I had finished cooking the meal. Two dishes, one soup. Fish cooked with pickles, cold mixed wood ear mushrooms and egg seaweed soup. These are all things he likes.
"Why did you cook rice so early today?"
"Chi Tu is at my mother's house. I'm free so let's do it."
He smiled and sat down to eat. After eating half, I spoke up:
"Ah yes, tomorrow the moving company will come to measure. On the day of the move, please take the day off."
"About the code, I've thought about it carefully."
His hand that was picking up the food stopped.
"You say it."
"Just use 123110."
He raised his head. There was a look of surprise, scrutiny, and even a slight sigh of relief in his eyes.
"Really?"
I picked up a piece of fish and put it in his bowl.
"Didn't you say this was our family's password? Now that I think about it, it's quite easy to remember."
Luc Hang looked at me for a few seconds then smiled.
"Thank you, Niem Niem."
"Thank you for what?"
I bowed my head to drink soup. The soup is very hot. So hot that my throat hurts. But I didn't spit out a single mouthful. October 2, moving house. The sunlight is very beautiful. The moving company staff went back and forth three times before moving all the items. My mother hugged Chi Tu and sat on the new sofa, ordering this item to be placed close to the wall and that item placed in the bedroom. Luc Hang is always busy, just like a devoted husband.
"Where is this cabinet?"
"Let's leave the spare bedroom. In the future, the eldest Chi Tu will live in that room."
He nodded. At three o'clock in the afternoon, everything was arranged. My mother said she wanted to go to the market to buy food and had to eat a proper meal at her new home tonight.
"Mom, don't be so hard, just order food."
She glared at me.
"Moving into a new house and eating food from outside? It's not consistent at all."
Having finished speaking, she picked up her bag and went out. In the living room, there were only me and Luc Hang left. Chi Tu crawled on the carpet, holding the newly purchased colorful wooden block and stuffing it into his mouth. Luc Hang stood at the entrance, manipulating the door lock.
"Nem Niem."
"The password has been set. 123110."
He showed me the phone's installation history. Master password: 123110. I took a look and nodded.
"I also set an additional password."
"Backup password."
He was clearly taken aback.
"Can the door lock still have two passwords?"
"Okay."
I walked to the front door and clicked a few times.
"0808. It's my birthday."
The expression on Luc Hang's face changed slightly.
"Can the backup password also open the door?"
"Of course."
"So why not use the same password?"
I turned my head to look at him.
"Didn't you say six digits is difficult to include everyone's birthday? Now there are both. Is there a problem?"
His smile was somewhat forced.
"I just don't think it's necessary."
"But I feel the need."
I reached out and touched the ice-cold screen of the door lock.
"After all, this is my house."
After that sentence, Luc Hang did not respond. I saw his jaw tighten for a moment. He began to feel uneasy. Not because of the backup password. But because he realized I no longer seemed as easily fooled as before. On the third day after moving into the new house, Luc Hang said the company had a social party so he didn't come home for dinner. I say okay. At nine thirty at night, he sent me a photo. A table full of food. Some people are raising glasses of wine. The photo was very blurry. I opened it and zoomed in. There are eight dishes on the table. But only put two sets of bowls and chopsticks. Then I called Tham Vy.
"Sister, do you know anyone who does a blood relationship assessment?"
The other end of the line was silent for a few seconds.
"Nien Niem, what have you discovered?"
"Help me find someone."
"You have to tell me first, are you about to encounter something?"
I looked at the people passing by outside the windshield.
"I want something to happen to him."
October 9. Tham Vy helped me contact a private facility. Without going through the official system, results are available in three days. Staff asked:
"What relationship do you want to assess?"
"Is there a pattern of the father and the child?"
"I can get the father's sample. As for the child's sample, I have to find a way."
"Hair must still have roots, five strands or more. A cotton swab with saliva to wipe inside the oral cavity is also fine. Worn clothes that still have dead skin or sweat can also be used."
I memorized the whole thing. That night, after Luc Hang took a shower, I picked up a few strands of hair with roots from the drain in the bathroom. Place in sealed bag. The first sample is available. The second sample, I had to go to the Ha Loan apartment complex to get it. October 10. Chi Tu's birthday. I took her to the mall to buy cake. Strawberry flavor. She sat in the baby stroller, constantly reaching out to grab the balloons in the glass cabinet. When passing by the mother and baby store, I stopped for a moment. On the left side of the glass cabinet is written:
"Girls area."
On the right write:
"Boys area."
Little blue shoes, little hats, and jumpsuits are neatly displayed. I looked for a few seconds then pushed the car forward. In the afternoon, Luc Hang returned early.
"Happy birthday Chi Tu."
He picked up his daughter and kissed her cheek. Chi Tu was so happy that his arms and legs were dancing wildly. There was a candle on the cake. Luc Hang recorded a video and posted it to his friends circle. The status line reads: 【Dad's little princess, one year old. Dad will love you forever.】
