Chapter 4
Chapter 4 — The Night Before My Wedding, I Disappeared
I looked at the message on the screen. My throat was swollen from allergies, making my breathing heavy. I held down the record button, my voice a bit hoarse.
“I ate it, it was delicious.”
Let go, the message was sent successfully. Tong Ky Uyen did not answer further. I leaned against the sofa, quietly waiting for the medicine to take effect, watching the red spots on my skin disappear little by little. In the afternoon, Miao Xiaoxiao returned. She pushed the door open while humming softly, carrying several shopping bags in her hand. Seeing me sitting in the living room, the smile on her face immediately shrank somewhat.
“Miss Van Thanh hasn't gone out yet?”
I watched her put her bag down on the sofa. In a bag, a corner of soft silk fabric was revealed. It's a limited edition pajamas set that Tong Ky Uyen bought for me last month while on a business trip to France. I don't even have the heart to wear it yet, I always keep it in the bottom drawer of the wardrobe.
“This color is really beautiful.”
Mieu Hieu Xao followed my gaze and looked down, took out her pajamas and tried it on her body.
"Mr. Ky Uyen said my skin is white, wearing champagne color like this is best."
She looked at me, her eyes sparkling with innocence.
"Miss Van Thanh, you won't mind if I wear this outfit, will you? Normally you don't dress like this anyway."
I looked at her youthful face full of collagen.
“Not paying attention.”
“Thank you, Ms. Van Thanh!”
She happily hugged her pajamas and ran into the master bedroom. At seven o'clock in the evening, Tong Ky Uyen returned from work on time. He took off his vest and conveniently handed it to Mieu Hieu Xao who was coming to pick him up.
“How was the interview today?”
He asked gently.
“Very good, HR said I can go to work next week.”
Mieu Hieu Xao very naturally took the vest and hung it on the coat rack. Tong Ky Uyen finished changing her shoes and went into the living room. He took out a thick file of documents from his briefcase and placed it on the tea table.
“Van Thanh, there is something I want to discuss with you.”
He sat across from me, his hands clasped together on his knees, his look divided.
"Tieu Xao is dating a boyfriend. The family's conditions are quite good, but they criticize her for not having a home."
He paused for a moment, observing my expression. I calmly looked at him, signaling to continue.
"I think the small apartment in Bac Hoan is still vacant, so it's better to transfer it to Tieu Xao's name, as a dowry prepared for her."
“A girl alone outside... needs at least some support.”
Small apartment in Bac Hoan... It's the last thing my mother left behind before she passed away. Tong Ky Uyen always knew clearly how much that house meant to me.
“That house was left to me by my mother.”
I said softly.
“I know.”
Tong Ky Uyen lowered his voice and leaned forward slightly.
"Van Thanh, that house is too old, the area is also small. Currently Tieu Xao needs a house book so she can show off in front of her boyfriend's family."
“In the future, when we get married, we will earn money and buy a bigger and better house.”
“I have always understood things.”
“It's just an old house... consider helping Tieu Xao get through this hurdle, okay?”
He looked into my eyes. His eyes were full of trust and certainty. As if if he just opened his mouth... I would definitely agree. Mieu Hieu Xao, standing next to him, also had red eyes.
"Miss Van Thanh, I know this request is too much... but I really love him."
“If it's just because of housing issues that break up, I'm serious not knowing what to do anymore..."
She covered her face and sobbed in a low voice. Tong Ky Uyen frowned and looked at her sadly. Then he turned back and continued to look at me, waiting for my familiar concession. I looked at the "Real Estate Donation Agreement" already printed on the tea table. Even the name Miao Xiaoxiao... He had already filled it out in advance. He didn't come to negotiate with me. Just came to make an announcement. I reached out and picked up the pen on the table. In Tong Ky Uyen's slightly surprised eyes, I opened the pen cap. I only said one word. Then sign your name on the last page of the agreement. Tong Ky Uyen was stunned. Maybe he didn't expect me to agree so quickly. The words I had prepared to convince me... were all stuck in my throat at this moment.
“Van Thanh…”
He looked at the signed agreement, his eyes flashing with complicated emotions. There was a surprise. There is a bit of guilt that is hard to detect. But more than anything... It's a relief like a burden has been lifted. He stood up, walked next to me, smiled and reached out to pat my head.
“I know you are the most understanding person.”
He looked at me gently.
“Tomorrow I'll take you to pick out your wedding dress again. Whichever style you like, we'll buy the most expensive one."
I didn't dodge that hand. Just quietly looked at him. Look at the long chestnut-dyed hair that belongs to Miao Xiaoxiao sticking to the collar of his white shirt. With light pink lipstick marks on the cuffs. I nodded slightly.
