Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — The Sun Of The Base
My best friend gave me a cup of hot ginger tea, and I turned and poured it straight into the shelter's public drinking water tank. Just because… I came back to life. In her previous life, she was bound to a system that robbed her of body heat. As long as I drink her water, my body heat will automatically transfer to her. In the icy apocalypse, she was the daughter of the base station chief, wearing a halter dress and dancing on a livestream in the snow, her face rosy. And I was a scavenger on the bottom floor, wrapped in five layers of blankets, still shivering, and finally, on a minus seventy-degree night, I was frozen into an ice statue. Only after I died did I realize that she treated me like a living heating bag, draining my last bit of warmth. Living again, isn't she afraid of the cold? What's so interesting about just absorbing my own heat? This time, the huge amount of heat from three thousand refugees throughout the base... will be my "big gift" to her. … Minus sixty degrees. On the bottom floor of the shelter, I curled up in a moldy blanket, shivering to warm myself. Suddenly, a pair of exquisite snow boots stopped before my eyes.
“An An, quickly drink this cup of ginger tea to relieve the cold.”
The sweet voice rang out, and I suddenly opened my eyes wide. Lam Du was holding a thermos cup, smiling brightly at me. Seeing that I didn't react, she sighed softly and opened the lid of the cup. Hot steam billowed out, bringing with it a strong, spicy ginger scent.
"This is something I begged my father for a long time to get from the core warehouse. I know your body is weak, so I specially added red sugar."
It's this cup of tea again. Memories immediately rushed back. In my previous life, it was this cup of ginger tea spiked with something that opened the temperature "link" between me and her. She wore a halter dress and danced in the snowstorm, because her body temperature was too high and her skin was still pink. And I became her portable battery. I am truly alive again. Around me, refugees looked at me with admiration.
“Miss Lam is truly a living Bodhisattva, kind to even a scavenger like that.”
"That's fate, some people are born in Rome, some people are born in an ice cellar."
Lam Du brought the rim of the cup to my lips and urged:
“Drink it quickly, it will lose its effectiveness if it gets cold.”
The hot steam from the rim of the cup hit my face. My stomach rolled. It was the nauseating feeling of being drained of heat before dying in my previous life. I clutched my stomach and suddenly turned my head away.
“Du Du… I… I'm having stomach cramps again.”
I looked pained.
“Just smelling ginger makes me want to vomit, I really can't drink it.”
Lam Du's smile stiffened. Before she could say anything, I turned my head to look to the side. The old head of the area - Uncle Trieu - had a fever and his face was red. He caught a cold while repairing the generator.
“Uncle Trieu is about to be unable to bear it anymore.”
I pointed at the old man.
“This life-saving cup of ginger tea... let him drink it.”
Hearing me say not to drink, the henchman behind Lam Du, Tran Diem, immediately lit up his eyes, looking greedy.
"Miss, if this trash doesn't drink it, I'll drink it! I'm freezing to death too!"
Tran Diem reached out to steal the cup.
“No way!”
Lam Du screamed, causing everyone around to look back. She immediately realized that she was losing her temper, quickly changed her expression to self-pity, and her eyes were red.
“This is a cup of 'custom-made' ginger tea that I specially asked for uncle."
She stared at me.
“Inside there are precious medicinal herbs that only your body can withstand. If someone else drinks it, they will lose their nutrients and die."
The reason was very bad, but no one dared to doubt the daughter of the base station chief. Tran Diem reacted immediately, immediately turning to scold me:
“You ignorant thing! Miss is worried about you, do you still want to give good things to others? Do you want to kill Uncle Trieu?
She raised her hand to slap me. I shrank my neck and pretended to tremble. Looks like it's still not possible to turn over at this point.
“Sorry Du Du.”
I tremblingly reached out my hand to receive the hot thermos cup.
“I'll drink it when my stomach feels better, I'll definitely not disappoint you.”
The cruelty in Lam Du's eyes disappeared, replaced by a ray of greed.
“That's right. Be sure to drink 'not a single drop'. I'll come back later to see."
As soon as I left, Tran Diem blocked my bed. She stared at the thermos cup in my hand, gulping.
"There are people who are truly cowardly, unable to drink the soy sauce and jade liquid."
She said sarcastically.
“If you won't drink, don't take up space.”
I coughed violently and turned around to pull the blanket up. Hands quickly act. The thermos cup tilted down, hot ginger tea was poured into a hidden urinal bag in front of the chest. People at the bottom of the apocalypse, in order to save some heat, try to limit going out, so they often hide a few urinal bags with them. Tran Diem and the people upstairs did not understand these things at all.
