Chapter 5
Chapter 5 — Thirty Years Later, We Brought Mom Home
Tham Gia Thu slammed on the table.
"Stop nitpicking every sentence and every word!"
"It's been thirty years! The house, company, and store are all in my mother's name. In court, people will only look at the truth!"
I looked straight at him.
"Liked telling the truth..."
"That's even better."
I put my mother's notebook down in the middle of the table. The blue cover notebook is old and faded. As soon as Tham Ngoc Nhu's eyes fell on it, her fingers immediately tightened.
"Where did you get it?"
I calmly replied:
"In the cupboard in the west house."
She immediately objected.
"That's my family's stuff."
Luc Trieu Minh spoke coldly.
"Those are the books of the landlady Hua."
Tham Ngoc Nhu turned to look at him.
"Luc Trieu Minh."
"That year you were fired from the company so you still hold a grudge, right?"
"Now you're back to dividing the love between father and son, what are your intentions?"
Luc Trieu Minh was so angry that he coughed. I raised my hand to stop him.
"Don't be so quick to take other people's hats."
I opened the first page of the notebook.
"The trust fund has an initial capital of 8,600,000 yuan."
"Three children, each owns a third."
"The person entrusted with management is Hua Hoanh Vien."
"The supervisor is Luc Trieu Minh."
I continued to turn the following pages.
"Rental payments for stores are recorded each month."
"Dividends from the old factory land are recorded quarterly."
"Until two months before my mother passed away..."
"All revenues and expenditures are clearly recorded."
I stopped at the part that was torn away.
"Then..."
"Twelve pages torn clean."
Tham Ngoc Nhu pursed her lips.
"Just an old notebook..."
"So what can you prove?"
Tri Dao spread out the copies Luc Trieu Minh kept on the table one by one.
"Proves a lot."
She pointed to my father's signature.
"This is a commitment to only manage the household written by Hua Hoanh Vien himself."
Then point to the bank statement.
"This is the trust fund's cash flow."
Next, she took out a copy of the store's ownership certificate.
"This is my mother's private property before getting married."
Finally, Tri Dao raised his head and looked straight at Tham Ngoc Nhu.
"That means..."
"The fortune she was given in the past..."
"At least part of it..."
"It is not an asset that Hua Hoanh Vien has the right to give away."
Tham Gia Thu's face became extremely ugly.
"So what?"
"Thirty years already!"
"You guys have long passed the statute of limitations for filing a lawsuit!"
Tri Dao calmly looked at him.
"If the person in power does not know that his or her rights are being violated..."
"Then the statute of limitations will be calculated from the time they knew or should have known."
"Thank you for reminding me."
"Yesterday you sent that statement to my sister."
"That means..."
"You proactively informed us that your rights were being violated."
Tham Gia Thu's mouth opened. But couldn't say a word. Tham Ngoc Nhu took a deep breath. She no longer pretended to be gentle.
"Hua Tri Chanh."
"What do you want anyway?"
I leaned back in the chair.
"I have four requests."
"The first."
"Immediately stop all transactions related to the ancestral house, the old factory land and all stores."
"Return my mother's jewelry box."
"With all the original documents."
"Disclose all accounts of profits and income of relevant assets over the past thirty years."
"Return the capital assets that belong to Dad our sisters."
Tham Ngoc Nhu burst out laughing. A smile... No warmth left.
"Who do you think you are?"
"Just to open a few nursing homes abroad..."
"But come back and teach me what to do?"
She leaned forward slightly.
"I've been there to take care of your father for thirty years."
"What about you girls?"
"Have you ever gone back to visit him every Tet holiday?"
"When he was sick and bedridden..."
"I'm standing by your side."
"Now you have just returned and are demanding to divide the property..."
"Aren't you afraid that people will laugh at you?"
The relatives standing outside the door began to whisper again. The aunt said in a low voice:
"That's right..."
"Ngoc Nhu has had a hard time these past few years."
Their uncle immediately chimed in.
"Tri Chanh."
"Now you guys are not short of money."
"Do we have to go to this extent?"
I looked at each of them.
"Thirty years ago..."
"You guys told me that too."
The uncle's face stiffened. I calmly said:
"I'm not short of money."
"Because there is no shortage of money..."
"So I have no reason to continue to endure you guys."
Having finished speaking... I placed the phone on the table. Screen facing down.
"From today..."
"Who still dares to exchange concepts, call the act of appropriation care, call the seizure of property a sacrifice..."
"Then I will bring all the books for the past thirty years..."
"Personally knock on each door."
The whole room immediately fell silent. Tham Ngoc Nhu stared at the phone on the table. She remembered the recording at the hospital.
