Chapter 23
Chapter 23 — Wind and Snow Falling, Ancient People Return
Flowers Bloom On The Old Street
Three months after the incident related to Van Hoa Cao Nguyen came to light, Diep Khanh's life gradually returned to a peaceful trajectory, but with a new and much brighter tone than before. Ta Bao Tram's fraud case was officially prosecuted, the fake contract with Diep Suong was declared completely invalid, all bogus debts were canceled according to the court's decision. Cung Vinh Vuong, thanks to his positive cooperation during the investigation, was considered to have his criminal liability reduced, while Bao Tram faced much more serious charges, along with the almost complete collapse of Lua La Suet when a series of customers and partners turned away after the truth was revealed.
Cung Vinh Vuong, after the case ended with a suspended sentence thanks to his positive cooperation attitude, contacted Diep Khanh once, sincerely apologizing for participating in causing harm to her flower shop, even if only as a forced employee. Diep Khanh, after thinking carefully, decided to accept the apology, not because she underestimated what happened, but because she understood that everyone can make mistakes when put in difficult situations, and tolerance, sometimes, is the best way for people to truly move on.
The Xuan Huong Old Quarter Renovation Project also entered the completion phase, the scaffolding was gradually dismantled, revealing a street with a new look but still keeping its ancient soul intact. The facades of old houses have been carefully restored, new lighting systems create a warm space at night, and sidewalks are re-paved with natural stone in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
In particular, according to Bach Du's proposal during the design process, a small corner right at the beginning of Suong Alley is planned into an open public space, where Diep Suong flower shop can expand its display area outdoors, harmoniously combining with the general landscape of the project. This is also a landscape highlight that is especially appreciated by the project management board, seen as a living testament to the spirit of preserving and promoting traditional values that the embellishment project aims to achieve.
"I designed this area based on the drawing we once sketched together, do you remember?" Bach Du asked, pointing to the small details in the design, his eyes filled with pride and nostalgia, as the two stood admiring the newly completed space, the flower vines planted along the gracefully curving iron frame, creating a poetic natural dome.
"You remember." Diep Khanh smiled, her eyes shining with happiness when she saw both of their youthful dreams finally come true, even though it had been a longer and more turbulent journey than they had ever imagined. "At that time, I only thought that these were the unrealistic ideas of youth, but I didn't expect that now they would come true."
In the official trial that took place a few weeks later, Ta Bao Tram was sentenced on charges of organized property fraud and appropriation of property, receiving a prison sentence and the responsibility to compensate all damages to the victims, including other small flower shops that had been victims of Van Hoa Cao Nguyen before Diep Suong. Sitting in the courtroom, listening to the verdict being read, Diep Khanh did not feel as happy and gloating as she thought, but only had a feeling of relief and regret for an irreparably broken friendship.
Diep Suong's business, after being freed from the burden of debt, also began to improve significantly. Thanks to its prime location in the newly renovated area, and the positive reputation that spread after the incident was resolved openly and transparently, the flower shop attracts more and more customers, not only to buy flowers but also to order a full package of decoration services for small, cozy wedding events in Diep Khanh's signature style.
Dinh Lam Tuyen, a close friend who has always stood by Diep Khanh during the most difficult days, is now assigned the additional responsibility of managing the event services segment, when Diep Khanh decided to expand the business scale, recruiting two new employees to meet the increasing demand.
"I'm really happy for you, Diep Khanh." Lam Tuyen said, in one afternoon the two worked together to rearrange the new display area. "After everything you've been through, you finally get the ending you deserve."
"Thank you for always being by my side all this time." Diep Khanh held her friend's hand, her voice full of sincere gratitude. "If it weren't for you, without Viet Bang, without Mr. Du and Minh Lam, I probably wouldn't have been able to get through that difficult period."
Meanwhile, the relationship between Diep Khanh and Bach Du is also gradually strengthened day by day. There are no longer any hesitations or defensive distances like when they first met, the two now have absolute trust in each other, sharing all the joys and sorrows in daily life. Bach Du often stops by the flower shop every afternoon after work, helps Diep Khanh clean up, and sometimes even learns how to arrange simple flower bouquets under her patient guidance, although the results often make them both laugh at the clumsiness of a talented architect when faced with soft flower branches.
Ngo Thuc Van, after the conciliatory conversation at the flower shop, also often stopped by to visit, sometimes bringing home-made cakes, gradually building a warm, close relationship with Diep Khanh like between a mother-in-law and future daughter-in-law, even though no official proposal has been made.
One weekend afternoon, when the flower shop was empty, Bach Du suddenly appeared with a bouquet of pure white gladiolus in his hand, the flower that Diep Khanh has always loved the most since his student days.
"Why did you suddenly bring me flowers today?" Diep Khanh smiled, somewhat surprised by this unexpected gesture.
"I just wanted to mark an important milestone." Bach Du said, his eyes contained a rare seriousness mixed with nervousness. "The old town beautification project was officially completed today, and I think this is also the right time for us to officially start everything again, no more ambiguities, no more hesitations."
Diep Khanh looked at him, his breath slightly slowing when he understood the profound meaning behind those words. She received the bouquet of flowers from his hand, her eyes shining with sincere happiness. "So we're officially back together, right?"
"If you agree." Bach Du smiled, stepped closer, his hand gently holding her hand. "I don't want to make far-fetched promises, I just want to promise you one thing: from now on, there will be no more silence, no more misunderstandings that can separate us again. Everything, no matter how big or small, we will face together and solve it together."
"I agree." Diep Khanh said, her voice choked with emotion, tears of happiness rolling down her cheeks. "I agree to start again from the beginning, and work with you to continue writing the story we left off for the past five years."
Bach Du hugged her in his arms, the flower shop space was filled with the scent of fresh flowers, the pale afternoon sunlight filtered through the glass window, casting a warm halo of light on both of them.
News of the two officially rekindling their relationship quickly spread in the neighborhood, receiving warm congratulations from neighbors who had been following their tumultuous journey all this time. When Ms. Tam Nghien heard the news, she went to the flower shop to congratulate her, bringing a pot of homemade green bean sweet soup, saying that it was Aunt Yen's favorite dish in the past, as a way to share joy with her deceased mother according to the customs of old friends.
Lam Tuyen, Viet Bang and Minh Lam also stopped by to congratulate. The whole group sat together in the flower shop until late, reviewing the memories they had experienced together during the arduous journey of finding the truth. That warm, intimate atmosphere made Diep Khanh realize that even though she lost her mother, even though she had to go through many ups and downs, she was always surrounded by people who truly loved and appreciated her, a family in a larger sense that she had never recognized so clearly until now.
Outside, Xuan Huong street now has a new look, yellow lights begin to shine along the newly renovated sidewalk, signaling a new, brighter chapter waiting for both of them ahead.
