Chapter 13
Chapter 13 — After Divorce, I Made My Husband's Family Bankrupt
Uncle Tran cursed softly. I called Bach Tung Dao.
“Chairman Bach, Zhou Kai is at your company.”
"I know." His voice was calm. "Security controlled him. He smashed things in the lobby, kicked over potted plants. I called the police."
“What about Bach Anh?”
"He's not there. I sent him on a business trip."
Silence for a beat.
"General Manager Diep, you're right. People like that... just make people laugh. I looked through the camera and only saw a person self-destructing."
“It's not her fault.”
I looked at two police cars parked in front of the factory gate — coming to keep order at the press conference.
"This type of person is best at pretending. But sooner or later it will be revealed."
"That's right. Sooner or later it will be revealed."
Bach Tung Dao sighed.
"General Director Diep, you can help me arrange the investment signing ceremony next week. I will bring a team of lawyers. Ah, I saw the press conference just now. You said it very well."
“Thank you, Chairman Bach.”
Hanging up, I stood in front of the factory gate. The sun was so intense that the road surface seemed to evaporate. The policeman in the car saw me, lowered the window and nodded. I also nodded back. The phone rang again. Northern police station.
"Miss Diep and Chu Khai this morning, after their detention period expired, they went to Bach Thi headquarters to cause trouble. They are now under control. Because he had an economic dispute with you, we invited you to come and testify."
“Okay. When?”
“The sooner the better.”
I asked Uncle Tran to take me there. In the car, he looked at me through the rearview mirror.
“General Manager Diep, is that guy… crazy?”
I looked out the window. Old streets, morning markets, and primary school gates are crowded with parents. Everything is still normal.
"It's not crazy. It's that he finally realized... this world doesn't revolve around him."
Northern police station. I waited a while, then was led into the office. Chu Khai sat on a chair, his hands handcuffed to the armrests. He was noticeably thinner, his cheekbones protruded, his eyes were sunken, and his beard grew scraggly. Seeing me, his eyes lit up a bit. Then turn it off immediately.
“Diep Thanh.”
The voice was hoarse as if rubbing against metal.
"What are you doing here? Are you looking at how pathetic I am?"
I sat down opposite. Police remind:
“Chu Kai, pay attention to your attitude.”
"No problem."
I looked at him.
"I came to work as requested. Done and gone."
Chu Khai looked at me for a long time. Then laugh. A bitter smile.
"You won. The restaurant was sealed, Bach Anh left, all relatives avoided it, my mother almost jumped off the building yesterday. Are you satisfied?"
I didn't reply.
"Today I went to Bach Thi, just wanted to ask a question. She said she would invest 2,000,000 yuan to help me turn the situation around. Why do you say change is change?"
“She hasn't changed.” I said. “From the beginning, the one who changed was you.”
Zhou Kai glared.
"You said the recipe was yours. But that thing... I made it. When I was eighteen years old, in the spice factory laboratory, I stayed up all night to perfect it. And you... have never stepped into the kitchen."
My voice is very even. But his face was red.
"You're talking nonsense! That recipe you voluntarily gave to the restaurant to use!"
"Yes. I let the restaurant use it. Not for you to use to trick people."
I stood up.
"Chu Kai, I didn't come here to see you. I've seen enough of what I need to see. The 'celebration' in the restaurant, the 3,000 yuan car fare, the house's lock being changed, the chat group that deleted me - I remember every single thing."
"So you must be gloating, right! Looking at me like this—"
“I didn't do anything to you.”
I interrupted word.
“I just… won't help you anymore.”
Chu Khai opened his mouth. Can't say anything. I turned away. At the door, a very soft sentence rang out from behind.
“Diep Thanh… sorry…”
So light that it almost melts into the air. I don't turn around. The police opened the door and I walked out. The hallway was quiet, the fluorescent lights hummed softly. I leaned against the wall and closed my eyes for a moment. Phone vibrates. Message from Truong Khai Son:
"General Manager Diep, just received the news. Trieu Le is standing on the hospital rooftop, someone called the police."
I didn't go to the hospital. I returned to the spice factory. Uncle Tran was waiting right at the factory door. When he saw me getting out of the car, he quickly walked over.
“General Manager Diep, the internet is exploding again.”
“What?”
"The video of Trieu Le standing on the hospital rooftop was posted. Comments are now cursing her."
