Chapter 9
Chapter 9 — After Divorce, I Made My Husband's Family Bankrupt
I opened the internet and searched for videos. The number of shares has exceeded three thousand. In the clip, Trieu Le sits on the ground in front of Tu Huong Cac, her hair disheveled, crying and screaming:
"Everyone, decide! My daughter-in-law stole the family recipe! Collaborating with outsiders to harm my family! The restaurant went bankrupt! My husband was hospitalized! She even wants to sell our house!"
The comments section exploded. People scolded me. Doubtful people. The person asked: "If it's a family recipe, why is the patent in the daughter-in-law's name?" Someone else said: "Her son was just detained?" I scrolled down. One comment was pushed up:
"I used to work at Chu's restaurant. This woman scolded her daughter-in-law every day for being a poor spice seller. Now that she lost the recipe, she can cry?"
More than four thousand likes. I put down the phone. Computer monitors are still Dinh Vi's production expansion plan. I typed a few lines. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.
“Room service.”
Sound is a bit strange. I stood up and looked through god's eyes. Three middle-aged women, dressed normally, carrying fruit baskets. The leader even glanced inside. I don't open the door.
"Diep Thanh! It's me, your third aunt! Don't you recognize me?"
My family doesn't have this person.
“Sorry, wrong person.”
"How could it be wrong? You're Chu Khai's third aunt! We're all family, open the door and talk!"
I leaned against the door.
“Is there anything wrong?”
"Open the door! Family members—"
It was quiet outside the door for a bit. Then another voice spoke, sharper:
"Diep Thanh, don't act too high. Today we came to advise you, don't force yourself too much. After all, Chu Khai is your ex-husband. You push someone's family to the end, don't you have a guilty conscience?"
“Who are you?”
“I am Chu Kai's second aunt!”
"YES." I replied. "I'm not opening the door. Please leave."
“You just wait!”
The second aunt's voice suddenly rose:
"Do you think hiding in a hotel is enough? I tell you, we have already hired a lawyer! You appropriated the Chu family's property, falsified contracts, malicious competition - those crimes are enough to send you to jail!"
I didn't reply. Pull out your phone and call the front desk.
"Hello, there are three people in my room causing trouble outside the door. Please ask the hotel to send security to handle it."
“Yes, we will handle it immediately.”
It was still noisy outside for a while and then the sound gradually faded away. About five minutes later, it was completely quiet. I returned to the table and continued to open the computer. The phone lights up. Chu Dinh's WeChat.
"General Manager Diep, have those people arrived at the hotel? I didn't tell them!"
I don't answer. Another message appeared:
“General Manager Diep… is it still time for me to apologize now?”
I looked at that text, typed a sentence, then deleted it. Finally sent nothing. The cursor on the screen is still blinking. I continued typing. At three o'clock in the afternoon, the complete plan was sent to General Director Vuong. At four o'clock, Uncle Ngo sent someone to bring Bach Thi's official investment contract. At five o'clock, Uncle Tran called.
“The seven Chu family stores today started the judicial auction process.”
“How much is the valuation?”
"The main store is about 1,700,000 yuan, the six branches are more than 2,000,000 yuan. Combined, it's still not enough to pay the debt."
“I know.”
"Furthermore, Chu Dai Phuc's hospital fees were owed for three days, and the hospital sent a termination notice. Trieu Le borrowed from everywhere, but relatives avoided her."
Uncle Tran hesitated.
“What else?”
“The matter of Chu Khai being detained... there was someone today Claiming to be Bach Thi's legal advisor, he called to ask about the situation. It seems Bach Tung Dao's side is intervening."
Bach Tung Dao. I leaned back in the chair.
“Let him do it.”
“Debt must be paid. Whatever the law decides, follow it. And he…”
I looked at the investment contract on the table.
“He will find me himself.”
Hanging up the phone, I stood up and went to the window. The sunset dyed the horizon a fiery orange. Down the road, traffic started to back up. A taxi stopped on the sidelines and a family of three got out. The child pulled his mother's hand and skipped towards the shopping center. I looked for a few seconds, then turned back and texted Mr. Ngo:
“Prepare all transfer documents, debts and legal entity change documents of the Chu family for 5 years. I will need it.”
