Chapter 17
Chapter 17 — Don't Open The Door At 2 A.M
“I, the receptionist, the person on night shift.” Officer Cao coldly asked: “Where is Mr. Trinh?” Manager Luong's lips trembled. "Still haven't found it." Policeman Tran immediately ordered a check on the night shift man, Mr. Trinh. At this moment, a policeman in the house shouted, "Found something new." He took out a microscopic device from the lampshade of the mysterious door. The back of the device still has some dust. I looked at that thing and my stomach turned sour. It's always on my head. Look at me coming in the door, look at me going out the door, look at me every time I bend over to change my shoes. Officer Tran put the device in his pocket. "This must be the source of the live image just now." I asked: "Where is the file?" Officer Cao shook his head. "It was taken away." I could almost hear a string in my heart snap. It contains my mother's documents. Officer Tran looked at me. "We will stop him." Before I could answer, manager Luong's phone suddenly rang. He was so scared that he was shaking. On the screen shows Mr. Trinh. Officer Tran signaled him to answer the phone. Manager Luong turned on the speakerphone. "Old Trinh, where are you?" There was a sound of heavy breathing on the other end of the line. "Manager, help me." Manager Luong's face turned pale. "Where are you?" Old Trinh's voice trembled indistinctly. "Underground parking lot, electrical room on the second floor." He had not finished speaking when another man's voice suddenly came through the phone. "Bao Ninh Ninh came down here alone." That voice had been processed. Reasonable, dry and flat. “Ten minutes.” “One minute late, her mother's documents will be sent first.” The phone hung up. The hallway was filled with dead silence. Officer Tran looked at me, his voice very low. "You can't come down." But I stared at the black phone screen. In the screen my pale face was reflected. Also reflected was the ransacked house door behind.19I said nothing. The wind in the hallway blew through the crack in the door, causing pieces of broken ceramic plates to gently collide with each other. The sound was very small, but brought everyone back to reality. Officer Tran took Manager Luong's phone and looked through the call history. "He told you to say she came down alone, which means he knew we were here." Officer Cao stood on the balcony and looked out. "How many exits does the electrical room on the second floor have?" Manager Luong trembled. "One main door, one inspection door leading to the parking lot, and one emergency exit." Officer Tran looked at him. "Floor plan." Manager Luong immediately called the receptionist. told to send diagram. His hands were still shaking, the phone almost fell to the ground. I looked at him and suddenly asked: "Why does Mr. Trinh have the key to the empty apartment next to him?" Manager Luong's face twitched. "The night shift sometimes has to patrol empty apartments." "Do patrolling empty apartments need to get my documents?" He bowed his head, not daring to look at me. Police Officer Tran said in a deep voice: "Now is not the time to pursue responsibility, but if you let one more word slip through, think about the consequences." Manager Luong nodded continuously. The diagram was sent very quickly. The electrical room on the second floor is located in the same parking lot, next to it is the water pump room, the signal is very poor. After leaving the inspection door, you can go around to the trash transport door. Continue outside to the north gate of the area. Police Officer Cao pointed to the diagram and said: "He chose this place to force her into a blind spot." Police Officer Tran said: "We take a clear route, he will know." I held the phone. "Then I will cooperate." Officer Tran immediately looked at me. "You can't go down alone." "I know." My voice was more stable than I thought. "But what he wants is for me to go down. As long as he thinks I'm going, he will show his face." Officer Cao frowned. "The risk is too high." I said: "My mother's side has been followed by him. If I don't show my face, he will change another way." Officer Tran did not immediately agree. He looked at me, as if judging whether I could still resist
Is that Okay. I also looked at him. "I will not run around, nor will I act on my own. If you tell me to stop, I will stop." After a short silence, he nodded. "You wear headphones, the phone holds the call." "We are in front and behind on both sides of you, but we won't let him see at a glance." "On the second floor, you only go to the elevator lobby, not into the electrical room." I nodded. Manager Luong was asked to call Mr. Trinh back. The phone connects very quickly. There was still heavy breathing on the other side. "Is she down yet?" Manager Luong looked at policeman Tran and answered as he said. "She agreed, she's going downstairs." The processed male voice rang out again. "Tell her not to bring anyone." Manager Luong's voice trembled. "A girl is definitely scared." The other person laughed. "She's right to be scared." I heard that laugh, my fingernails dug into my palm. Officer Tran lowered his voice and said: "Don't let him drag your emotions." I put in my headphones and stepped into the elevator. Before the elevator doors closed, I saw my messy living room. Broken ceramic plate. The drawers were wide open. The curtains were blown away by the wind. The place I lived in for a year and a half felt like it had been turned inside out. The elevator slowly went down.
