Chapter 9 — Husband's Will

A few years later. At At entered elementary school. The child is smart, obedient, and active. Even though he lacked his father's love, he never complained. On the contrary, he wrapped his arms around me and said in a low, sincere voice:

“Mom, all I need is you.”

“Mom, raising your child alone is very difficult, isn't it~”

I looked at the child's sparkling eyes and the childish yet gentle voice, an indescribable emotion welled up in my heart. I am so grateful… for having such a good child. At At - is the treasure, the light for the rest of my life. Later, I took my children out of the small city in the South and moved to a larger city. We live in a new house, more spacious and complete. I used the assets that Ky Le Chu left behind to open my own fashion design studio—a dream that had been forgotten during the struggling years of our marriage. Thanks to that, I can be strong enough to let Tai Tai learn everything he likes and live a free life the way he chooses. I never saw Ky Le Chu again. Never heard anything about Quan Thuan Nguyet. The news about them—it was like it had never existed in my life. Until one day... When Tai Tai just turned ten years old. I suddenly received a call from lawyer Tong. His voice was still the same, calm, professional, and full of respect. Only this time, there was a flicker of regret that he tried to suppress:

“Madam Ky—no, Miss Giang…Mr. Ky Le Chu passed away this morning.”

"According to the will, all of his remaining assets will be transferred to you and Mr. Giang Tai. Can you come and sign at a convenient time?"

My hand tightened around the phone, my knuckles turning white. How ironic— It was a will that ended everything between him and me. Yet in the end... He chose to write my name and the child's name in his last will. A slight pain shot through my chest, a feeling I thought I would never have to experience again. The morning sunlight penetrated through the window, illuminating the whole room, quietly but gently. A moment later, I heard myself say, in a calm voice:

“Donate all that property…donate it.”

“Attorney Tong, please allow me to handle this matter with full authority.”

The other end of the line was silent for a few seconds, then he softly said "yes", respecting my decision. There was a time when I hated myself because I had nothing in my hands. Once because of a little bride price, I felt that I was so low that I no longer had any value. But now— I've really given up. The room door opened. Tai Tai ran in with a smile as bright as sunlight:

"Mom! I got first place again!"

“In the essay you wrote about your mother, the teacher also said that your mother is the most wonderful person~ Hmmm, your mother is the best person in the world!”

The child jumped into my arms and hugged me tightly with all his little love. A hug—full of trust, full of pride. I firmly hugged my child back. Embracing the greatest gift… that life has given me.
