Chapter 17
Chapter 17 — I Give Up Everything, Always Give Up My Fiance, Never Give Up My Life
The other person led me, familiar with the way to avoid the patrols, all the way to the Southeast of the Marquis Palace and quickly left. My heart seemed to hang in my throat, every step felt like stepping on a knife blade. Finally, a secluded corner door appeared before my eyes, the door was only slightly closed. The other person said in a low voice: "Miss, go out, someone will respond." I gratefully nodded at him, without hesitation pulled the door open and rushed out. Outside, there was a very ordinary horse-drawn carriage covered with a green tarpaulin parked, the driver wearing a wide-brimmed hat, unable to see his appearance clearly. I jumped into the car, the curtains immediately fell, the carriage quickly rolled, rushing into the dark night. It wasn't until the carriage drove far away that I weakly fell down on my seat, opened my mouth and gasped, a feeling of unreal confusion rising in my heart. Can I... really escape?
“Are you scared to death?”
A lazy voice, mixed with a bit of laughter, rang out from the corner of the car compartment. I was startled and turned around. In the darkness, he leaned against the soft cushion, his hand leisurely twirling a piece of jade pendant, his eyes looking at me as if smiling. He was still wearing civilian clothes, but compared to when he was in my manor, he looked much neater and more tidy.
“Your Highness?!”
I blurted out, unable to hide my surprise.
“You… why are you here…”
“Why are we here?”
He raised his eyebrows, his tone indifferent.
"My beautiful soulmate was taken away by someone using a fake holy decree. I had to come and see no matter what. Who would dare to touch my body?"
He said it so lightly, but we clearly understood how much danger was behind those words. Sneaking into the Marquis Palace to save people, how could it be a simple thing?
“Thank you, Your Highness, for saving my life.”
I lowered my voice and sincerely thanked you.
“Don't be so quick to thank me.”
He curled his lips slightly, a flash of unpredictable interest flashing through his eyes.
“The drama hasn't ended yet.
Tomorrow, Crown Prince Ta and your good cousin will get married. Wouldn't it be a pity if we didn't come to give you a 'big gift'?" I stopped. He moved a little closer, lowered his voice, leaned close to my ear, and whispered each sentence. The more I listened, the wider my eyes became, until finally I looked at him in disbelief, unable to hide my surprise:
“Is this… really possible?”
He laughed softly, his smile curved like that of a scheming old fox.
“Why can't it be?”
His voice was lazy, but each word carried a certainty that left no room for doubt.
"Since they want her life, then just give them a 'body'. As for whether they can bear the consequences or not, it depends on their bravery."
My heart was pounding non-stop, but my blood was silently boiling, a feeling of both fear and excitement spread throughout my limbs. If they were unjust first, don't blame me for being unjust later. The next day, the Marquis of Vinh Ninh Palace hung lanterns and flowers, the front door was crowded, and guests were rushing in and out. Even though the groom's face was not very good, and the bride was said to have a weak body and had to have someone around to support her, the marriage between the Marquis Palace and the Tham Palace was still a big event that shook the whole capital. What's more, even with the name "jubilation", there are even more people coming to see the excitement. My father wore a bright red dress, and my mother also wore a splendid dress, on her face full of smiles, walking among the guests, happily receiving every compliment. It seems they have completely forgotten that they have a daughter who is being held captive in the Hau palace, waiting for the day her blood will be used to make life-saving medicine for others. The auspicious hour is about to come, the guests have taken turns taking their seats. Suddenly, a series of shrill screams rang out from the back yard of the Marquis Palace, followed by a rush of chaos.
"It's on fire! It's on fire! Call someone quickly!"
"It's... it's the prison that holds that person!"
Ta Doan Hanh's face suddenly changed, the wedding didn't have time to attend to it, he immediately led people straight to the backyard. Tham Wei and Chu Thi looked at each other, their faces pale, and quickly followed. Many curious guests left their seats and flocked to watch the excitement. I only saw in the back yard, a secluded corner of the yard, billowing black smoke. Although the fire was not big, it was enough to make people's hearts tremble. The servants panicked, carrying water back and forth, frantically putting out the fire. Ta Doan Hanh rushed straight into the courtyard, kicking open the door of the room next door.
