Chapter 2
Chapter 2 — I Sell 58% of Shares, Sending My Ex-Husband Out of My Life
“How many years have we been married?”
“Twelve years.” He responded reflexively. “Why do you suddenly ask that?”
“This company… is also twelve years old.”
His expression changed.
"When the company was just established, I held 78% of the shares, you held 22%. Later, to give you more voice on the board of directors, I transferred an additional 20% to you, making you the second largest shareholder."
I have never mentioned these things before. Because I always think that if a husband and wife calculate too clearly, their feelings will be hurt. Now I understand... Even if you offer something that isn't yours, people will automatically take it for granted. Tan Mac Thanh's face became more and more ugly. He hates it the most when I mention these things.
"Thanh Van, when you're at peace, why bring up old stories?"
To raise enough capital for his 22% share, I sold the only house my parents left behind. That year, we were crowded into a rented room of less than forty square meters. He hugged me and said that this life will definitely not fail me. It's true that vows have an expiration date. The doorbell rang. Lam Uyen carried a glass of water and walked in, her hands shaking so violently that the water spilled out. She placed the cup in front of me. There was still a faint stain of lipstick left on the rim of the cup. I picked up the cup but didn't drink.
“Assistant Lam.”
“L… General Luc…”
She was so scared that her voice trembled.
“How long have you been following President Tan?”
She glanced at Tan Mac Thanh before daring to answer.
“Two… two and a half years.”
“Two and a half years.”
I nodded.
“What tremble?”
Her face immediately turned white.
“I don't like other people touching my things.”
I put the cup down hard on the table, the water splashed out, she instinctively withdrew her hand.
“Regardless of the cup…”
“Or something else.”
Lam Uyen's eyes were red, sparkling tears flowed out. Tan Mac Thanh finally couldn't bear it anymore and pulled Lam Uyen behind him.
"Luc Thanh Van! If anything comes at me, what's the point in bullying a little girl!"
He called me directly by name. Not “wife”. Nor is it "Thanh Van". I looked at him protecting another woman. Just feels ridiculous. I stood up and walked in front of the two of them.
“Mr. Qin, have you forgotten… what the last name of this company is?”
He choked. Even though I gave him 42% of the shares, I still have 58% in my hand. I am the absolute controlling shareholder of Due Hang. Firing an assistant... Even dismissing his general manager... It's just a statement from me. Obviously he thought about that too. The anger on his face quickly disappeared, replaced by panic.
“Thanh Van, I didn't mean that…”
“Tell her to get out of my sight.”
I emphasized each word clearly.
"Right now."
Lam Uyen's tears immediately fell, she grabbed Tan Mac Thanh's sleeve.
“General Qin…”
Tan Mac Thanh's fist clenched and then let go. He looked at me, with anger, unwillingness, and a very deeply hidden emotion in his eyes. In the end, he still let go.
“You go out first.”
Lam Uyen looked at him in disbelief, but did not dare to resist, so she could only wipe her tears and run out. There were only two of us left in the office. Tan Mac Thanh walked in front of me, his voice softened.
“Wife, I know it's wrong. There's really nothing between me and her, we're just passing by..."
I pushed his hand away.
“Playing across the street?”
"Are you so playful that you secretly filed divorce papers behind my back?"
The moment those words were uttered, Tan Mac Thanh's pupils shrank violently.
“What…what did you say?”
The blood on his face immediately drained away.
“How can I divorce you… Thanh Van, who told you that?”
If it wasn't true, his first reaction would have been confusion. But not this panic.
“Oh? Starless?"
I leisurely sat down again.
“So who is spreading the rumors?”
His throat moved slightly, cold sweat trickled down his temples.
“I… I don't know either. Surely there are people who want to divide us..."
“Then go to your mother's house tonight and ask her directly in front of her.”
His face was whiter than paper.
“No need! This little thing…”
“Small matter?”
I removed each finger that was clinging to my arm.
"Adultery, arbitrarily filing divorce papers, are just small things in your mouth?"
“I didn't mean that! Thanh Van, listen to my explanation!”
“Seven o'clock at night, old mansion.”
“You may not come. You can also call in advance to agree on testimony.”
I stood up, grabbed my bag.
“But I advise you to think carefully…”
“Consequences of angering me.”
I turned around and left. The sound of high heels echoed on the floor, each step was cold and decisive. It wasn't until I sat in the car that I took off all my camouflage. Leaning back in the chair, my whole body seemed to be drained of strength. Twelve years. I gave the best time of my life to him, to this family, to this company. I used to think I married for love. The result is just a game of deception. I closed my eyes. When I opened it again, all the soft parts were completely gone. Luc Thanh Van. My father gave me this name in the hope that I will always be alert and self-conscious throughout my life, even at the last moment. Tan Mac Thanh... And his good mother. What you owe me, I will reclaim one by one. I started the car and didn't go home. Which ran straight to a private investigation facility east of the city. I want to know... When did Tan Mac Thanh start betraying me? Is Lam Uyen the first? How was that divorce paper finally made? Over the years, how much money has he withdrawn from the company account? All that dirty stuff... I will dig it up. Let him lose everything. An hour later, I sat in the reception room of the investigation office. The person opposite is named Phuong Vien, over forty years old, used to be a criminal police officer, currently working as a private investigator. Reputation in the industry is very good.
“General Luc, I have already grasped the content you want to investigate.”
Phuong Vien closed the notebook and took notes.
“Give me a week.”
He looked at me for a few seconds then nodded. I pushed a USB stick over.
“Here is Tan Mac Thanh's recent three-year schedule, which I extracted from the company system. Maybe it will help you localize faster.”
Phuong Vien received it without asking anything else. Professionals will not ask unnecessary questions. When I left the investigation office, it was already three o'clock in the afternoon. Sitting in the car, I texted lawyer Trieu a message.
“How is the share transfer going?”
Reply message arrived very quickly.
