Chapter 5
Chapter 5 — I Sell 58% of Shares, Sending My Ex-Husband Out of My Life
"General Luc, with this amount of money, if criminal prosecution is filed, Tan Mac Thanh could face a sentence of over five years."
Over five years. Plus the crime of falsifying identity to get divorce papers. This life of Tan Mac Thanh... Consider it over. But I'm in no hurry. What I want is not just to put him in jail. I want him to taste the feeling of being betrayed by everyone first. At noon, I don't go out to eat. Just ask the receptionist to order a salad. Halfway through eating, the office door was pushed open. Tan Mac Thanh stood at the door, his face not looking very good.
“Thanh Van, why are you here?”
“This is my office.”
“Why can't I be here?”
He walked in, his eyes scanning the documents on the table. Luckily I had put the other three sets of contracts in a drawer. There was only salad and a glass of water left on the table.
“I mean… you haven't come home these past few days, nor have you answered the phone, I'm worried about you.”
“Thanh Van.”
He sat down opposite me, his expression serious.
“That day at my mother's house, what you said about the house loan scared my mother very much.”
“For the past two days, she's been asking me all the time if something happened between us.”
“Did something happen?”
I asked back. His eyes suddenly wavered.
“Of course not.”
“That's good.”
He looked at me, wanted to say something, then swallowed it.
“Thanh Van, let's go home for dinner tonight.”
“I made pickled fish for you.”
Pickled fish. My favorite dish. In the past, every time I worked late at night, he would do it himself and bring it to the company for me. At that time, I thought... I was the happiest woman in the world.
“Not going anywhere.”
“I have a meeting tonight.”
"What meeting? Why don't you know?"
“General Qin.”
I raised my head to look at him, the corners of my lips curled slightly.
“There are meetings…”
“No need for you to know.”
His expression immediately changed.
“What do you mean?”
“The meaning is as true as the words.”
I skewered a piece of butter and put it in my mouth, my tone calm.
“General Qin, not everything in Due Heng needs to go through you.”
His hand clenched into a fist and then slowly let go.
“Thanh Van, have you been misunderstanding me about something lately?”
“No matter who says anything in your ear, you should confirm with me first.”
“We are husband and wife.”
Those two words came out softly. Tan Mac Thanh's face completely darkened. He stared at me for a few seconds then stood up.
“Just keep busy.”
He turned around and walked out. When I got to the door, I called him back.
“Tan Mac Thanh.”
He stopped walking but didn't turn around.
“Tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock, board meeting.”
“I have already informed all members.”
He turned around, frowning.
“Board meeting?”
“What is the content?”
“You will know then.”
He looked at me, as if wanting to get something out of this face. But my expression was coldly blank. Finally he left. The sound of the door closing was very quiet. I put down my fork, picked up my phone, and texted the company's four independent directors one by one.
“Tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock, emergency board meeting.”
“Content: audit and adjustment of personnel.”
“Please be on time.”
In less than ten minutes, all four people confirmed their attendance. I called lawyer Trieu again.
“The legal opinion, I must have it before noon tomorrow.”
"No problem."
“Help me prepare a draft resolution dismissed from the position of general director.”
The other end of the line was silent for two seconds.
“President Lu… are you planning to directly dismiss Tan Mac Thanh right at the board meeting?”
"… I got it."
“Before noon tomorrow, all documents will be prepared.”
Hanging up the phone, I leaned against the back of the chair. Outside the glass window is the city skyline. The sunset dyed the glass of the building a bright yellow. Tan Mac Thanh... Perhaps you think I've been silent these past few days because I'm hesitant. I'm just sharpening my knife. That night, I returned to the house I once shared with Tan Mac Thanh. Not for eating pickled fish. But to get things. While he was still busy cooking in the kitchen, I went straight into the office. He never changed the password to the safe. It's still my birthday. Opened the safe, inside were real estate documents, savings books, several passports... And a brown paper envelope. I opened the envelope. Inside is a divorce certificate. Brand new red shell.
