Chapter 10
Chapter 10 — Mystery At 3 A.M
“Go ask her mother.”
“Her mother is the best at hiding things.”
Khuong Hoa's heart tightened.
“What do you mean?”
The young man grinned.
“Didn't the old lady tell you before she died?”
“She left behind more than just a box.”
“If you still haven't found the second item by six o'clock, Captain Dien's son will be the first.”
“It's the next one.”
His eyes slowly turned to An An.
“She was resurrected once, but her luck won't last forever.”
An An stood next to the car door, her whole body seemed to be nailed to the spot. Only these people say that. Resurrected once again. Khuong Hoa pulled her back to the car, her palms covered in cold sweat. Captain Dien ordered someone to separate the two suspects and escort them away. The young man kept smiling on the way to be taken away. The man pretending to be an old man kept his head bowed. It wasn't until he was stuffed into the car that he suddenly raised his eyes to look at Khuong Hoa.
“Miss Khuong, Boss Luong asked me to pass on a sentence.”
“Your mother owes him, it's time to pay.”
Khuong Hoa said nothing. She was afraid that if she opened her mouth, her voice would shake so much that it wouldn't sound like her own. The convoy divided into three routes leaving Nam Kieu bridge. The actual list and tapes were not transported in police vehicles. Captain Dien handed them over to a female police officer. She changed into delivery worker clothes and drove her motorbike away through the alley west of the bridge. Khuong Hoa and An An sat in another car. Outside the glass window, Nam Kieu Bridge is gradually left behind. An An was always staring at the rearview mirror. Khuong Hoa asked softly.
“What are you looking at?”
“See if there's a car that always follows.”
“What if there isn't?”
“That makes it even more troublesome.”
Khuong Hoa listened so much that his heart sank. An An's voice is very light.
“That proves they don't need to monitor.”
“They already know where we're going.”
Captain Dien sat in the front row without turning around. He put Khuong Hoa's phone in a metal waveproof bag, and asked all those participating in the action to hand in their personal phones. Police Officer Ha was stunned.
“Captain Dien, do you suspect there is an insider among us?”
Captain Dien said.
“I'm suspicious of everything that transmits.”
He spoke very calmly. But the atmosphere in the car immediately changed. Only then did Khuong Hoa understand why the fake pinky finger appeared at the bank. That's the detail An An said in the testimony room. There weren't many people in the room at that time. If it wasn't someone spreading the word, then something was always eavesdropping. She thought about her phone, her spine went cold. That phone once received strange calls in the hotel. Also received photos. From that moment on, it may no longer belong to her alone. At five twenty minutes in the afternoon, the female police officer brought the tape to an old abandoned police station building. There are no network connection devices there. Captain Dien found an old-fashioned tape recorder. The buttons of the device are very hard. When the tape was placed, Khuong Hoa's fingers unconsciously tightened. A buzzing sound rang out for a few seconds. Then, a woman's voice came out from the tape. Almost immediately, Khuong Hoa's eyes turned red. That was her mother's voice.
“Tieu Hoa, if you listen to this tape, it will prove it And they still come to me.”
“Mom, I'm sorry.”
“There are some things, I thought that if I just hid them, they would pass.”
“Later I learned that evil things buried underground only grow more poisonous roots.”
The sound of wind sounded in the tape. Her mother seemed to be talking in a very empty place.
“Twenty-one years ago, under Nam Kieu Bridge there was a batch of fake household registration books.”
“Thirteen children had their names changed.”
“They were taken to different families, some survived, some didn't.”
“Leung Thua Vien did not start his career from a training center.”
“Initially, he specialized in helping others whiten their identities.”
“Later he used the training center as a cover, hiding those children and money in student records.”
Khuong Hoa's head buzzed. She had never heard her mother talk about these things. She only knew that when she was young, her mother worked as a temporary employee in the old neighborhood records room, and then helped several schools organize paper records. Her mother was careful all her life, even trash had to be torn apart before thrown away. Turns out it's not a habit. But she has been afraid for a long time. The recording continues.
“What happened to the child three years ago was not an accident.”
“During a closed study session, he recognized an old photo.”
“In that photo there is what he looked like when he was a child.”
"Luong Thua Vien is afraid that he will continue to investigate."
“After knowing that you gave the copy to your parents, I understood that they would keep an eye on you.”
“Tieu Hoa, I don't dare tell you.”
“Because mom also has a list in her hand.”
Hearing this, Khuong Hoa's breathing became chaotic.
