Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — On my wedding night, I kicked my husband's entire family away
“Give me your card.”
Chu Tu Bach stood next to the new bed strewn with red apples and peanuts, his tie had not yet been removed, his tone was calm as if he was talking about everyday meals.
"My mother told me to take out the bride price money first and give it to Minh Khai to deposit to buy a house. After all, we are all family members, so the money is in everyone's hands. As for the house I bought before marriage, if I'm free tomorrow, I'll add your name, so it won't be a hassle later."
I gently lifted my eyelids and looked at him. The window still has bright red letters of joy, outside the hotel hallway there is still the sound of drunk relatives, the smell of sweet cream and alcohol is lingering in the air. This is my wedding night. It was also the night that in my previous life, I personally entered hell. In my previous life, just because of a sentence "temporarily lend my brother a house", I traded my father's life, lost my unborn child, and in the end, even the house that was in my name before the marriage turned into Chu Minh Khai's wedding room. I bowed my head, looked at the costume on my body, and suddenly burst into laughter. Chu Tu Bach frowned:
“What are you laughing at?”
I lifted my leg, put all my force into it, and kicked him straight in the stomach. He didn't have time to prepare, his whole body fell out, hit the chair next to the bed, and struggled to sit on the ground.
“I laugh at your Chu family's thick face.”
The room was silent for two seconds. Chu Tu Bach hugged his stomach, his face turned pale:
“Lam Van, are you crazy?”
“It's you who are crazy.” I stepped closer in high heels and looked down at him from above. "On the wedding night, I didn't think about how to be a good husband, but instead thought about how to rip me off. Chu Tu Bach, are you getting married or are you going to join the business?"
The room door made a "bang" and was pushed open. Chu Tu Van rushed in. As soon as he saw his son sitting on the ground, he shouted:
"Lam Van! You dare to hit my son?"
During the day, she pretended to be gentle in front of guests, but now she was so angry, every wrinkle on her face shrank.
"If you marry into our Chu family, you're from the Chu family. What's wrong with asking you to give your brother-in-law some money to buy a house? A woman, house, car and money, don't they all eventually bring it to her husband's family?"
I conveniently turned on the recording, placed it on the dressing table, my voice was as light as the wind:
“Auntie, say it again.”
Without realizing it, she spoke even more enthusiastically:
"Am I wrong? When a woman gets married, she has to take care of her husband's family. Your bride price is just a formality, in the end, isn't it just for the sake of the two of you? Minh Khai is married, you have one less thing to worry about in the future. Besides, what if my son's name is added to your family? He is your husband, who are you still wary of?"
I looked at her and slowly asked each word:
“So what if I don't add it?”
Chu Tu Van smiled coldly:
"No more? Not adding more means you don't consider Tu Bach to be family. On your first night as a bride, you made such a fuss and spread it out, do your parents still have face?"
Chu Tu Bach also stood up at this time, holding his stomach, his voice softened:
"Van Van, don't overdo it. My mother only cares about Minh Khai. You give me the card first, I'll make it up to you later. We've already registered our marriage, isn't yours and mine... the same thing?"
I stared at his face. In my previous life, this same face, when my father lay in front of the emergency room door, said to me:
"My mother does not agree to touch that money. Minh Khai is about to get married, he cannot miss his younger brother's work."
Also This face, when I had just had a miscarriage, walked out of the operating room, bowing its head to avoid my eyes:
"My mother said it's okay if I lose my child, don't argue with her."
And in the end, it was still this face, when I held the red book and was about to go to the bank to cancel the mortgage, he pulled my wrist back:
"Lam Van, please understand a little. Save your loved ones, not outsiders. My brother is family."
I was really stupid back then. Stupid enough to hear the words "family member"... but think it's "my person". I reached out, picked up the glass of wine I placed on the nightstand, and threw it straight at Chu Tu Bach's face. He was stunned and stood frozen in place.
“Chu Tu Bach, listen clearly.” My voice was very calm.
“First, you have no right to touch my card.
Second, in my house, you have no right to add a name. Third, I will definitely divorce this marriage." Chu Tu Van almost jumped up:
"What are you talking about? Just got married today, you dare to divorce?"
“Why don't you dare?” I curled my lips. “A marriage certificate is not a marriage contract.”
Having finished speaking, I turned around to get my bag. ID card, bank card, red book... all the things that can be brought, I don't miss anything. Chu Tu Bach finally panicked and rushed forward to grab my wrist:
"Lam Van, don't go crazy anymore. What will happen if you go back to your mother's house now? Your relatives and friends are all watching, how much do you want my family to lose face?"
“If your family loses face, what does it have to do with me?”
“You are my wife!”
I pulled my hand away, my voice was not loud, but sharp as a knife:
"I'm your wife, not the Chu family's ATM, and even less the idiot that your mother and younger brother will dig up money for."
His face was pale, his chest heaving with anger. Chu Tu Van rushed forward to snatch my phone, I took a step back and directly dialed 110.
“Hello, I am at Quan Duyet hotel, room 1608. Someone is trying to limit my personal freedom and take over my property.”
As soon as this sentence came out, the Chu family's mother and daughter were both stunned. I looked at them, my heart filled with no waves. In my previous life, it was because I was too proud and too afraid of making a big deal of it that I let them gradually swallow me up. In this life, I'm not afraid anymore. I have nothing to fear anymore. Hang up, I call one more time. The phone rang three times and my father picked up.
"Van Van? It's so late..."
My throat was tight, almost speechless. In his previous life, he also wore this old suit. During the wedding, he laughed until his face turned red. Everyone he met said that my son-in-law was gentle and trustworthy, and said that his daughter married the right person. But he hasn't had time to see me living well. He passed away four hours after suffering a brain hemorrhage... just waiting for the money that should have belonged to me.
“Dad…” I tightened my grip on the phone, my nails digging deep into my palm. “Dad came to take me home.”
The other end of the line was silent for a second. Dad didn't ask why, just said one word: When the hotel security and police arrived, a bustling circle of onlookers had gathered outside the door. Chu Tu Van immediately changed his face, sat down on the ground, beat his thighs and cried:
"Comrade police, you're finally here! My daughter-in-law went crazy on her wedding night, beat my son, and was about to leave! How will she live in the future!"
She cried until her heart was broken, as if I had just done something terrible. I stood by the door, coldly calm.
“Comrade police, I request to record the fact that they forced me to hand over money bride price and house papers on the wedding night, and at the same time restricted me from leaving the room."
Chu Tu Bach quickly:
“I won't restrict you!”
“So why did you hold my wrist just now?” I raised my wrist that was pinched red. “Your mother just jumped in and snatched my phone, what do you mean?”
The police looked at the scene, then looked at my wrist, their faces became somewhat serious. I saved the recording to the cloud, then locked the screen. Having finished everything, I picked up my bag and walked out.
