Chapter 6
Chapter 6 — On my wedding night, I kicked my husband's entire family away
"I mean, the second young master of the Zhou family in front of you... not only doesn't have a house, but also owes a lot of money. The so-called wedding house, is the house I bought before getting married. The so-called bride price and inheritance... are all things they plan to extort from me."
Chu Minh Khai rushed forward to snatch the documents. Luc Dinh took a step forward, blocking my face.
“Try touching her.”
The voice is not loud. But it was so cold that it sent shivers down one's spine. Chu Minh Khai immediately stopped. The girl's family bent down to look at the documents, their faces becoming more and more unsightly. The guarantee contract, debt collection note, loan detail sheet... each sheet laid out is clearer than any explanation. The girl's father slammed the table, his face black as ink.
"What do you Chu family mean? Fraudulent marriage?"
Chu Tu Van panicked and quickly explained:
"No! It's not like that! That debt will be repaid sooner or later. Minh Khai is just young and doesn't understand things..."
“Don't understand?” I gently continued. “So you guys taking the bride price money and the daughter-in-law's house to cover her debt... is that understandable?”
The whole hall began to stir. Some people whispered, others secretly recorded videos. Chu Tu Bach finally ran over, and as soon as he entered, he tried to pull me out.
“Lam Van, do you have to force people to the end?”
I looked at him, suddenly feeling extremely bored.
“Pressed to the end?” I pushed the stack of documents into his chest. "Chu Tu Bach, clearly your whole family is standing at the edge of the hole, and you keep wanting to drag a woman down to lie under you. Now that I don't jump in... will I be forcing you?"
“There's more.” I looked straight into his eyes, my voice was not high but it made his face turn pale little by little. "You better give me back all my jewelry and congratulatory money, not a penny missing. Otherwise... next time I come, it won't be just me and the lawyer."
The bride's family completely turned around and directly snatched the tablecloth. The engagement ceremony... broke up on the spot. Chu Minh Khai was angry and was about to scold me, but the girl's father punched him in the face. The scene was chaotic. I hugged the gold bracelet box, turned around and left. At the door, Chu Tu Van's hoarse scream rang out from behind:
"Lin Van! You ruined my son!"
I don't turn around.
"YES." My voice is as light as the wind. “So now you know… what it feels like to be destroyed by someone else?”
Leaving the restaurant, the night wind blew, I suddenly felt light. Luc Dinh stood next to me and opened the car door for me.
“Are you angry yet?”
“It's okay.” I hugged the jewelry box and looked down at the gold bracelet. “At least this time… the things my mother gave me, I took back.”
Luc Dinh looked at me, his eyes very deep.
“You… are stronger than you think.”
I paused for a moment, turned my head to look out the window. On the glass, a smile I couldn't hold back was reflected. I'm not the one being pushed away. I'm the one who chooses my own path... and moves on. After that engagement ceremony, the Chu family was in complete chaos. The bride's family canceled the marriage, Chu Minh Khai was called by debt collectors to the point of collapse, Chu Tu Van cried every day, and Chu Tu Bach was stuck in the middle... finally experiencing the feeling of "everyone in the family is suffering". He started texting me constantly. Sometimes he said he regretted it, sometimes he wanted to see me, sometimes he sent a long paragraph in the middle of the night, saying that in the past few days I understood how much pain I had endured, saying he wanted to start over, wanted to live alone with his mother, wanted to give me all his salary. I don't reply to any messages. Not because of anger. It's because I know it too well. A man who is used to saying "hold on for a bit"... will not suddenly grow a spine because of a few stumbles. He doesn't love me. It's just that he finally realized, without me... he couldn't carry that house anymore. On the day of the first trial, Chu Tu Bach wore a neat suit and looked like a decent figure. In court, he said he was very pitiful, said the wedding night was just a proposal, said I got excited and left to my mother's house on my own, and hinted that I was too close to the male lawyer, suspecting that I had other thoughts before marriage. Hearing that, I almost burst out laughing. When it was my turn to speak, I brought all the evidence: audio recordings, photos, police records, videos from the company, videos of the engagement session, along with the evidence they tried to take possession of property before marriage... presented one after another. Finally, I raised my head and looked straight at the judge, my voice calm.
"I did not divorce on impulse. I divorced because I realized that from the beginning, this marriage was built on the default exploitation of my assets and efforts."
“On the wedding night, they didn't want to discuss, but to test how much I could be eaten.”
"I refused, they started pressuring me, harassing me, making up lies, going to the place to cause trouble, and even using public opinion to force me to return."
I stopped for a moment and turned to look at Chu Tu Bach.
"Between me and him, there is no trust, not even the minimum respect of a marriage. Continuing will only bring harm to me."
Chu Tu Bach's face turned pale, but he still tried to say:
“I can handle things with my mother…”
