Chapter 2
Chapter 2 — On my wedding night, I kicked my husband's entire family away
At the elevator door, my parents just arrived. Father was still wearing the black suit at the wedding, the collar had not yet been adjusted, and his forehead was drenched in sweat. He saw me in a wine glass dress standing in the middle of the hotel hallway, my steps stopped. My mother's eyes were red and she rushed to grab me:
“Van Van, what exactly happened?”
I opened my mouth, but couldn't utter a word. In my previous life, when I returned to my mother's house, I was swallowed whole by the Chu family and returned with a miscarriage certificate. At that time, my mother cried and asked why I didn't say anything sooner. I just bowed my head and couldn't answer anything. I finally made it back in time. My father didn't ask any more questions, just quietly took off his vest and put it on my shoulders.
“Go, go home.”
Chu Tu Bach chased after him, before wiping his face, he frantically explained:
"Dad, mom, Van Van are just angry. Today we're so tired, we just discussed some household expenses, she misunderstood..."
“Misunderstanding?” I turned my head and burst out laughing. “On the wedding night, you forced me to pay the bride price and add my name to the red book, which you call a misunderstanding?”
The hallway was silent. Someone took a cold breath. Chu Tu Van tried to rush forward but was stopped by the police.
"Let's talk about family matters at home, don't cause trouble at the hotel."
My father's face gradually darkened. He was gentle and quiet all his life, but at that moment, just standing there looking at Chu Tu Bach was enough to send chills down one's spine.
"The money was saved by me and his mother for our daughter's dowry, not to buy a house for your younger brother. The house was bought by her before marriage, and not to be divided among you Chu family."
Chu Tu Bach opened his mouth:
“Dad, I didn't mean that…”
“What do you mean, my daughter heard clearly.” Father's voice was not loud, but so firm that no one could interrupt. "If he wants to go home today, he can go home. If anyone dares to stop me, I will risk it."
My nose was stinging, I almost burst into tears. In my previous life, my father also protected me like that. It's just that at that time I wasn't strong enough, I couldn't keep myself, and I couldn't keep him either. When I got home, my mother closed the door and asked in a low voice:
“Van Van, has it really come to this?”
I didn't say much, opened my phone, showed the photos and chat I just saved. That is the private chat group of Chu Tu Bach, Chu Tu Van and Chu Minh Khai.
"First take his bride price money, then gradually advise on adding his name to the red book. Anyway, it's already registered, he can't run."
"She's the only girl in her family. In the end, the other house is hers. If Minh Khai gets married, priority comes first. Wait until the eldest brother can convince his sister-in-law, what's the point in letting his younger brother stay temporarily?"
"Tu Bach, don't be soft-hearted. A married woman must know how to take care of her husband's family. If she doesn't listen, let her mother do the ideological work."
After my mother finished reading, her hands shook. My father slammed the phone on the table, his face turned pale.
"Divorce." He only said one word.
“Yes, divorce.” My mother shed tears. “That kind of person cannot live together for a day.”
I looked at them, my throat tight. Little did they know… this was just the beginning. If I hadn't woken up last night, if I had been patient like in my previous life, my father would have suddenly had a brain hemorrhage at the end of the month. I can't afford the money for surgery at home. I would have to kneel all over the Chu family to borrow money, only to receive a cold sentence in return:
"A married daughter is like a bowl of spilled water. There is no way to compensate her mother's family with money from her husband's family."
But that life-saving money... soon turned into a deposit for Chu Minh Khai's house. I closed my eyes, suppressing the rising anger. In this life, it won't be like that anymore. The next morning, I didn't cry or make a fuss. Wash your face, change clothes, then send a text message.
"Luc Dinh, I want a divorce. The faster the better."
In less than a minute, the phone called back. The man's voice was low and a bit hoarse, like someone who had just woken up:
“Isn't today the second day after your wedding?”
“That's why we need to be as quick as possible.”
The other end of the line was silent for two seconds.
"Send me the address. I'll come over."
Luc Dinh is my high school classmate, who later became a lawyer, specializing in handling marriage and property disputes. In 12th grade, he gave me a love letter, but I didn't accept it. After that, there was little contact, only knowing that he did very well and won many cases. In my previous life, when I was divorced, I also thought about finding you, but at that time I was left boneless by the Chu family, and I didn't even have money to hire a lawyer. When he arrived, he was wearing a black shirt, his jacket loosely draped over his hand, his eyes still sharp and cold like when he was a student. As soon as he entered the door, he saw the red mark on my wrist and frowned slightly. But didn't ask anything, just opened the laptop.
"Let's talk about the important things first. How long did it take to get the marriage certificate?"
“Do you live together yet?”
“Are common assets mixed?”
"No. I returned last night, all cards and documents are in my hand."
“Evidence?”
I pushed through everything: audio recordings, photos of chats, police reports from the hotel. Luc Dinh lowered his head to look, the more he looked, the more calm his expression became.
“You're lucky, their true colors were revealed on their wedding night.” He looked up at me. “If we actually lived together for a few months, things would be much more complicated.”
I smiled softly:
“It's not luck, it's that they eat too openly.”
Luc Dinh nodded:
“Listen to me. Step one, immediately fix the evidence.
Step two, list all your pre-marital assets: red book, jewelry, congratulatory money, dowry. Step three, separate the residence, keeping all traces. Step four, if they come to harass you, immediately report to the police, don't argue in private." He stopped for a moment.
“One more thing.”
His eyes looked straight at me, sharp as knives.
“Don't be soft-hearted.”
I looked straight at him for two seconds, then burst out laughing.
“Don't worry, it won't be this time.”
Luc Dinh had been gone for less than half an hour when Chu Tu Bach's phone rang. I don't listen. He texted again:
"Van Van, I was wrong last night. My mother spoke harshly. Don't take it to heart. Let's meet and talk, don't make both parents tired."
I looked at that post and just found it funny. He was the same in his previous life, never admitting the wrong word, just gently saying "your mother's words are hard to listen to", then turning it all into a matter of attitude. It was as if they weren't calculating me, but just didn't speak well. I answer in two words. At ten o'clock in the morning, I brought my parents, the moving team, the apartment manager, and the local police back to the "wedding" house. Say it's the wedding house... It's actually a two-bedroom house I bought before getting married. I saved the deposit myself, the renovation money was paid by my parents, and each piece of furniture was hand-selected by my mother. In her previous life, three days after getting married, Chu Tu Van packed her things and moved in. She said her back hurt and she went to the city for treatment. Staying and staying forever, Chu Minh Khai and his girlfriend also moved in, the reason is "The newlywed's house hasn't been repaired yet. Let's borrow your house for a while."
“A while” stretched into three years.
In the end, I was forced into a spare room, not even the kitchen and bathroom were used first. I wasn't even planning on letting them in. The door opened, the house still maintained its appearance after last night. Wedding flowers were scattered all over the floor, and the living room was filled with unopened gift boxes. I took out the dowry list and began to inventory each item. Refrigerator, TV, washing machine, massage chair, air conditioner, tea table... even the set of dishes my mother bought separately, I also asked to move them all. Chu Tu Bach ran over just as the staff was carrying a 75-inch TV to the door. His face turned pale:
“Lam Van, what are you doing?”
“Get my things back.”
"I'm already married, what do you mean by clearing the dowry like that?"
“It's because I know how to think.”
I gave the new lock to the technician: Chu Tu Bach tried to reach out to stop him, but was stopped by the police:
"If there is a dispute, resolve it according to the law, don't raise your hand."
Chu Tu Van also ran over. As soon as he entered the door, he shouted:
"Are you crazy? The dowry you brought into the door belongs to our Chu family!"
I laughed.
"What law stipulates that? Let me take a look."
