Chapter 4
Chapter 4 — Reciting Remembrance Find Mother
Niem Niem grabbed my shirt tightly, refusing to let go. I looked at Giang Dien Xuyen and suddenly smiled softly.
“Mr. Giang.”
“It's not nice to be late to the engagement party.”
“Quickly take Niem Niem there.”
I gently removed Niem Niem's hand from the hem of my shirt. After that, I turned back behind the counter, not looking at the father and son again. Giang Dien Xuyen held Niem Niem's hand, turned and walked towards the door. Niem Niem walked three steps and turned around once, crying endlessly, tears like broken pearls. I stood in place, my fingers clenched on the edge of the counter. When they were about to walk out of the store, I finally spoke up.
“That year, daughter……”
Giang Dien Xuyen's footsteps stopped, he turned to look at me. His eyes first fell on Niem Niem's body, then moved to my face.
"She almost lost her life, but fortunately, Lam Tinh gave her a blood transfusion and was able to save her."
Hearing the name Lam Tinh, my heart did not hurt as intensely as expected. I just nodded. Giang Dien Xuyen's lips moved slightly, as if she still wanted to say something. But I raised my hand to close the glass door of the tea shop. The lock made a soft "click" sound, blocking the outside world. Through the glass, I saw Giang Dien Xuyen's figure stiffen in place for a few seconds. Then, he bent down and picked up Niem Niem, who was crying until he was sobbing, and strode towards the black car on the side of the road. The car door closed with a "bang" and the engine started. The driver looked through the rearview mirror and asked, "Sir, are you going straight to the engagement party location?" Giang Dien Xuyen did not answer immediately. He lowered his head to look at Niem Niem who was sobbing in his heart, his eyes were complicated.
“No, go home first.”
The driver was stunned but still nodded and turned around. Giang Dien Xuyen took out his phone and dialed a number.
"It's me, carefully investigate to see who Tieu Lam came into contact with at Niem Niem's first birthday party four years ago, especially men."
Niem Niem, who was sullenly curled up in a corner, immediately sat up straight. The girl happily held Giang Dien Xuyen's arm.
"Dad, you believe me, right? That year it wasn't my mother who hurt me, but Ms. Lam!"
Giang Dien Xuyen did not look at Niem Niem, his eyes still stared at the rapidly receding street scene outside the window. Niem Niem impatiently shook his arm.
"For the past few years, she has always said bad things about mom in front of me. I told dad, but dad always told Ms. Lam to save my life, not to slander her!"
“Dad is such a big idiot!”
Finally, Giang Dien Xuyen also turned to look at Niem Niem.
“How do you know she is your mother?”
Niem Niem frowned, her small hand unconsciously scratched the leather of the chair.
"When I passed by your shop, I just felt that you were very familiar so I ran in. The look in your eyes when you looked at me was so heartbreaking, my heart also hurt so much."
“I don't want mom to cry.”
The car stopped before a red light intersection. Giang Dien Xuyen silently took out his phone and opened an old photo. In the photo is me when I was young, holding the one-month-old Niem Niem, smiling extremely brightly. He turned the phone screen towards Niem Niem.
“This is a photo your mother took when you were a full month old.”
Niem Niem reached out her small hand and gently touched my face on the screen.
“Dad, do you always keep mom's photo?”
Giang Dien Xuyen did not answer and took the phone back. The car continued set off, running towards the villa area. When he was about to reach the gate, Giang Dien Xuyen suddenly said to the driver: "Turn around and go to the police station." The driver glanced at him in surprise but still followed. Niem Nim tensed and held the seat belt tightly.
“Why are we going to the police station?”
Giang Dien Xuyen rubbed her head.
“There are some things, perhaps it's really not like what I thought that year.”
Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of the police station. Giang Dien Xuyen did not get out of the car immediately but called first.
"Captain Ly, I'm Giang Dien Xuyen. Regarding my daughter's case four years ago, I would like to request a re-investigation."
There was a vague answer on the other end of the line. Niem Niem stirred uneasily.
“Dad, isn't Miss Lam getting engaged to you today?”
Giang Dien Xuyen hung up the phone, the corner of his lips curled up in a cold smile.
“There will be no more engagement parties.”
After leaving the police station, Giang Dien Xuyen did not immediately go to the engagement party location but told the driver to drive around the city aimlessly. Niem Niem was tired of crying so she slept in the back seat, tears still on her face. Giang Dien Xuyen looked at the scenery passing by outside the window but her thoughts went back to many years ago. His original purpose when approaching Co Dao was indeed not simple, it was just revenge. After the accident, he lost both his parents in just one night, falling straight from the clouds to hell. It was hatred that supported him through the most difficult times. He carefully planned each encounter, hiding his distaste and hatred, imitating the role model that would make her move. He thinks his acting is very good and he can calmly perform the entire play. Until the anniversary of his parents' death, he knelt in front of their graves for a whole day, without drinking a drop of water.
