Chapter 14
Chapter 14 — The Beggar Husband Turns Out to Be a Dragon
Three days after Bach Tranh revealed the truth about her identity, Tuyet Nhi still went to work as usual, trying to keep the familiar rhythm of life even though she couldn't help but think about what she had just learned. Bach Tranh, although worried, did not want her to live in fear. He only told her to be more careful and always keep in touch regularly.
That morning, before Tuyet Nhi left home to go to work, Bach Tranh held her hand and gave her instructions one more time. "If you see anything unusual, no matter how small, you must call me immediately. Don't judge for yourself that it's insignificant."
"I know, don't worry so much." Tuyet Nhi smiled and kissed him gently on the cheek before walking out to the car. "I'm not a weak person, have you forgotten? I once faced three thugs alone in the middle of the night, what am I afraid of anymore?"
Bach Tranh watched the shadow of her car disappear behind the corner of the street, his heart still heavy with a vague insecurity that he could not clearly explain, a premonition that years of living in danger had forged for him, always more right than wrong.
That afternoon, when Tuyet Nhi drove out of the charity fund office to go home, she did not know that, since early morning, Ngao Viet Phong had been silently following her all day, and while she was in a meeting, he secretly interfered with her car's brakes, a carefully calculated action to create a seemingly random "accident", forcing Bach Tranh to save his wife and thereby, completely reveal himself.
The car was halfway down the road, when it came to a downhill section near the overpass area, Tuyet Nhi stepped on the brake pedal to slow down and prepare to turn a corner, but the brake pedal suddenly went limp, no longer responding, the car rushed downhill at an increasing speed.
"No... no way!" She panicked, trying to step on the brake repeatedly but to no avail, the car was still moving at breakneck speed, heading straight towards a crowded intersection ahead.
At that moment, her phone rang, it was a call from Bach Tranh. In a panic, she still managed to pick up the phone using speakerphone mode. "Bach Tranh, my car's brakes are broken, I can't control the car!"
On the other end of the line, Bach Tranh, who was working in an office a few kilometers away, his eyes immediately darkened, a strong premonition told him that this was not a random incident. "Where are you? Tell me the location now!"
"I'm on Le Loi street, near the bend before the intersection..." Tuyet Nhi shouted, her voice full of fear when the car almost collided with a truck going in the opposite direction.
Without time to explain further, Bach Tranh rushed out of the office and raced through the streets, using all the speed that his dragon body allowed him to achieve, a speed far beyond any car, even though he had to try to suppress it so as not to be too obvious to passersby.
He arrived just in time, just as Tuyet Nhi's car was about to crash into a bus crossing the intersection. Bach Tranh jumped across the road, raised his hands to block the front of the car, used all his body strength to hold back the car that was rushing at dozens of kilometers per hour, the shoes he wore on his feet plowed two long deep streaks on the asphalt because of the terrible friction.
The car stopped suddenly, just a few feet away from the bus. Tuyet Nhi sat in the car, panting, her arms and legs still shaking from fear, but absolutely safe.
"Are you okay?" Bach Tranh opened the car door, his voice full of worry, pulled her out of the car, and hugged her tightly.
"I... I'm okay." Tuyet Nhi replied, her voice still shaking, but when she saw her husband's worried face, she felt much more secure. "Thank you, luckily you came on time."
Around, a crowd had gathered, many people held up their phones to film the scene of a man stopping a speeding car with just his bare hands, an action far beyond the limits of normal human strength.
"We have to go now." Bach Tranh whispered, pulling Tuyet Nhi's hand and leaving the scene before too many people realized the abnormality in the action just now.
But just as the two turned around to leave, a cold voice rang out from behind, small enough for only Bach Tranh to hear clearly thanks to the dragon clan's sharp hearing. "His Royal Highness is truly worthy of being a crown prince, he reacts so quickly."
Bach Tranh turned around and saw a middle-aged man standing not far away, elegant in a black suit, eyes as sharp as knives, it was Ngao Viet Phong.
"You." Bach Tranh shouted, instinctively standing in front of Tuyet Nhi.
"Long time no see, your highness." Ngao Viet Phong bowed his head slightly, his tone remained respectful on the outside but full of sarcasm hidden behind. "I've been looking for you for six long years, and I finally met you."
"You damaged her car's brakes." Bach Tranh said, his voice cold as ice, his hands clenched into fists. "You intend to use her to threaten me."
"Your Highness is smart, guessed correctly." Ngao Viet Phong smiled faintly and did not deny it. "I just want to make sure that your highness will no longer have a chance to escape. My master, regent Diep Thua Uy, wants you to return to Long Uyen, along with Long An, to resolve everything peacefully."
"Smooth?" Bach Tranh sneered, his voice full of sarcasm. "He poisoned my father, falsely accused me of treason, and now you call forcing me to hand over the Dragon Seal a peaceful resolution?"
"That is your highness's view." Ngao Viet Phong replied, his eyes unwavering. "From the regent's perspective, you are simply an impulsive young crown prince who misunderstood and caused an unnecessary incident. If you will hand over the Dragon Seal and give up all disputes over the throne, the regent is willing to let you live peacefully in this world, with... your beautiful wife."
Ngao Viet Phong's eyes glanced at Tuyet Nhi, causing Bach Tranh to immediately clench his fists, a stream of angry aura slightly flared up around him, making the surrounding atmosphere seem to become heavier.
"If you dare touch her even a hair." Bach Tranh said every word, his voice filled with murderous intent. "I won't let you leave this place alive."
Ngao Viet Phong looked at Bach Tranh's violent reaction, slightly raised his eyebrows, seemingly satisfied with what he had just observed. “Your Highness already has the answer for my master.” He said, his voice still calm. "I will convey it. But please remember, Your Highness, there is not much time left. The Regent has been patiently waiting for six years."
Having finished speaking, Ngao Viet Phong turned around and disappeared into the crowd at such a fast speed that no one in the surrounding crowd could notice anything unusual, leaving only Bach Tranh standing still, his face full of anger and worry.
"That is..." Tuyet Nhi asked, her voice still trembling, but her eyes partly understood the meaning of the conversation just now.
"They are the servants of the person who harmed my father." Bach Tranh replied, turning to look at her, his eyes full of self-blame. "I'm sorry, because of me you almost got into danger."
"It's not your fault." Tuyet Nhi held his hand, her voice steady even though she was still shaking. "It's the fault of the person who caused this. Don't blame yourself."
Upon arriving home, Bach Tranh immediately called Chuong Dich Pham, his voice returning to the seriousness of a person who had been trained to command. "From today, I need you to arrange more people to monitor every move around the house, and carefully check Tuyet Nhi's car to see if any other parts have been tampered with."
"I'll have someone come check it out tonight." Chuong Dich Pham replied. "Your Highness, I would also like to speak frankly, perhaps it's time for you to consider proactively taking action, instead of just being passively defensive like this. Ngao Viet Phong has appeared, which means he no longer has many reservations."
Bach Tranh was silent for a moment, considering that advice. He knew Chuong Dich Pham was right, but confronting Diep Thua Uy's side directly meant accepting an irreversible risk, a war that, once started, would have no way back.
"I will think more." He replied, then hung up the phone, turned to look at Tuyet Nhi sitting quietly on the sofa, her face still in shock after this afternoon's incident.
On the way home, both were silent, each pursuing their own thoughts. Bach Tranh knew that after today's event, things cannot go back to the way they were before. The enemy had found him, knew clearly that his greatest weakness was Tuyet Nhi, and from now on, every remaining moment of peace became more precious and fragile than ever.
