Chapter 15 — The Beggar Husband Turns Out to Be a Dragon

Updated 09/09/2026 7 min read

After the car brake incident, Giang Chan Hung, even though he did not know the whole truth, realized that something wrong was happening around his daughter. He immediately sent two more personal bodyguards to guard the couple's small house, despite Bach Tranh's gentle protests that he could protect his wife himself.

"Be careful, don't worry." Giang Chan Hung said, his eyes looking at his son-in-law full of scrutiny. "There have been so many strange things happening lately, I can't rest assured without someone guarding me."

Two bodyguards, one named Kieu Bao Long, the other named Ve Thanh Hai, are both experienced veterans, carefully selected from Chan Hung Group's private security team, and are constantly on duty around the home area from dusk to early morning.

"What do you think is the strange thing the boss mentioned?" Ve Thanh Hai asked his teammates while patrolling the first round of the garden, his voice somewhat curious. "I heard that Bach Tranh has a very mysterious background. I wonder if it has anything to do with security."

"My job is to guard, not to pry into other people's affairs." Kieu Bao Long replied with a serious voice befitting a disciplined veteran. "But to be honest, I also find something strange. The car brake failure just now is not as simple as the police report said. I worked as a technician before joining the army, a car brake failure like that doesn't happen naturally."

Neither of them expected that, just a few hours after that seemingly innocuous conversation, they would face a real danger that far exceeded any prediction of a normal corporate security team, a danger that no military training could prepare them for.

That night, when the whole neighborhood was asleep, a small truck without license plate stopped about fifty meters from Bach Tranh and Tuyet Nhi's house. Five large men, wearing black clothes with their faces covered, quietly got out and moved close to the fence behind the garden.

This is a group of mercenary assassins secretly hired by Ngao Viet Phong from the city's underground. They did not know the target's true identity and were only paid a large sum of money to kidnap a young woman living in this house and take it to a predetermined location. This was Ngao Viet Phong's test, a way to gauge Bach Tranh's true reaction without having to show up himself.

Kieu Bao Long, patrolling around the garden, discovered a stranger climbing over the fence and immediately raised the alarm. "There's an intruder!"

Immediately, a group of assassins attacked, one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed Kieu Bao Long before he could react, causing him to collapse, blood soaking his shoulder. Ve Thanh Hai ran to the rescue but was quickly overwhelmed by the crowd and was knocked to the ground.

The loud noise woke up Tuyet Nhi and Bach Tranh who were sleeping in the house. Bach Tranh jumped up immediately, his intuition told him something bad was happening. "Stay in your room, lock the door, don't go out even if you hear anything!" He warned Tuyet Nhi, his voice urgent, then rushed out of the room.

As soon as he reached the yard, he saw two bodyguards lying unconscious on the bloody ground, and five assassins were walking straight towards the door, one of whom was holding a roll of rope, clearly intending to capture someone.

"Stop!" Bach Tranh roared, his anger rising when he saw two innocent people injured just for protecting his family.

"Eh, what do you think, it turns out it's just a husband?" The leader of the group of assassins smirked and signaled his accomplices to move forward. "Brothers, deal quickly and withdraw."

Five assassins simultaneously rushed in to attack Bach Tranh, using both knives and iron clubs. Their attacks were well coordinated, showing that these were not ordinary guys. But for Bach Tranh, those attacks were nothing more than child's play compared to what he had faced during the harsh training sessions during his youth in Long Uyen.

He gently dodged the first knife blow, grabbed the attacker's wrist, and used only a very small amount of force to make his wrist bones crack, causing him to scream in pain and the knife fell to the ground. Another guy swung an iron stick straight at his head, but Bach Tranh only raised his hand to block it, the sturdy iron stick was bent like a soft steel wire.

During the battle, Bach Tranh's eyes, which were originally as deep as ink, began to change to a sparkling metallic color under the moonlight, a sign that he was having to apply stronger spiritual energy to quickly deal with the crowd attacking at the same time. On his arm, when he swung a punch to knock down the third man, a layer of translucent blue-black scales briefly appeared on his skin and then disappeared immediately afterward, so quickly that only those with sharp eyes could recognize it.

In less than a minute, all five assassins were lying on the ground, some with broken arms, some unconscious, no one was able to resist. Bach Tranh stood in the middle of the collapsed crowd, his breathing was still steady, showing no signs of fatigue from the battle that had just taken place.

"Oh my god..." A trembling voice rang out from the gate, causing Bach Tranh to turn around in surprise. It was Mrs. Dinh Ngoc Thu, the next-door neighbor, who was awakened by the noise and ran out to see what was going on, just in time to witness the entire final scene of the battle, including the moment Bach Tranh's eyes sparkled with a strange metallic light in the moonlight.

Kieu Bao Long, although injured but still conscious, was able to see part of that scene before passing out from blood loss. Before he closed his eyes, there was still extreme surprise.

"Mrs. Thu, please don't tell anyone about this." Bach Tranh hurriedly approached, his voice urgent, trying to stay calm even though his whole body was still breathing heavily after the recent battle. "I'll explain later, but for now, I need to call an ambulance for the two bodyguards first."

Ms. Ngoc Thu, still in shock, nodded and stammered, but her eyes looking at Bach Tranh were completely different from before, a mixture of fear and surprise that was difficult to hide.

Tuyet Nhi, unable to bear the anxiety of hearing the noise outside, disregarded her husband's instructions, opened the door and ran to the yard, just in time to see a chaotic scene with five men lying everywhere and two bodyguards seriously injured.

"Bach Tranh!" She shouted, running to his side, her eyes checking all over his body to see if he was injured anywhere. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, don't worry." Bach Tranh hugged her, but his eyes still couldn't hide his worry as he looked towards Ms. Ngoc Thu who was standing not far away.

An ambulance was called immediately afterward, taking the two injured bodyguards to the emergency room. Kieu Bao Long, although the stab wound was quite deep, luckily did not hit the main artery, while Ve Thanh Hai only suffered minor injuries from the impact. Both were confirmed by doctors to fully recover after a few weeks of recovery, news that made Tuyet Nhi breathe a sigh of relief, although she still couldn't help but feel guilty because they were injured while protecting her family. The police also quickly arrived to arrest the five assassins and investigate the incident. But the story doesn't stop there. The next morning, Mrs. Ngoc Thu, even though she promised to keep quiet, still couldn't help but tell a few close friends about the "strange scene" she witnessed last night, about the glowing eyes and extraordinary strength of her husband in the house next door.

The story, like a small spark caught in the wind, quickly spread throughout the neighborhood, then crept into social network chat groups, turning into a rumor that became more and more thrilling with each retelling.

Bach Tranh, knowing that the rumors had begun to spread, stood silently in the living room, looking at Tuyet Nhi with worried eyes. "I'm afraid things can no longer be kept secret." He said, his voice heavy.

"Then we will face it together." Tuyet Nhi held his hand tightly, her eyes firmly unwavering. "Whatever happens next, I will be by your side."

But neither of them could have foreseen how far the rumor would spread, and what great consequences it would bring to the Giang family, as well as speeding up the life-and-death confrontation that lay ahead, a confrontation that both of them, no matter how mentally prepared they were, still could not fully imagine the true level of danger.
