Chapter 20
Chapter 20 — The Day I Return
I didn't reply. Turn your head and look out the window. The hospital window faces the roof of a residential area. Some pigeons are walking around on it.
“The divorce agreement between you and him,” I spoke up, “can be signed.”
She stopped for two seconds. Then he replied: "Okay." Very light. But very steadfast. In the evening, returning to the hotel, it was almost 9 o'clock. I sat in front of my desk, with a glass of warm water in front of me and a clean white notebook. The phone was silent all evening. Ky Lang did not text. Maybe he really listens to me and doesn't stay up until dawn anymore. Or perhaps, he was waiting. I picked up a pen and wrote a line on the notebook.
"List."
Then list down — 1. Industrial park agreement: Confirmed by Friday. 2. Grave relocation documents: Final confirmation tomorrow morning. 3. Mother's hospital: Arrange further tests and prescriptions. 4. Flight: Three o'clock in the afternoon the day after tomorrow. Zurich. 5. Ky Lang — The tip of the pen stopped at the 5th item. It stopped for a long time. Finally, I wrote three more words after "Ky Lang":
“Not sure.”
Then close the book. Take a shower. Tonight I don't want to think anymore. When it's time to go, I'll go. What needs to be clarified is already clear. The rest - Leave it to time. If he is worthy, time will give the answer. If it's not worth it - then these three years are not worth worrying about. **【Chapter 8】** Day five. The last full day. Flight at three o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Waking up in the morning, Nguyen Tieu Ngu started packing his luggage.
"Big sister, hang up your velvet dress so it doesn't get wrinkled."
"YES."
“The temperature in Zurich is dropping, bring an extra sweater.”
"Okay."
At ten o'clock in the morning, I went to the hospital to visit my mother. Her face has improved a lot and she can sit up and eat porridge. Seeing me coming, she smiled slightly and stopped crying - probably if she knew she would cry again, I would scold her.
"After the test is done tomorrow, if there are no problems, you can be discharged from the hospital." Dr. Chu said.
“Yes, sorry doctor.”
I sat next to her bed for about half an hour. Chat about the weather in Zurich, laboratory progress. No mention of love. No mention of Ky Lang. When I was about to leave, she held my hand and asked: "Tieu Duong, when will you come back?"
“It must be Tet.” I thought, "If I'm too busy to come home, I'll make a video call."
“Yes. Yes.”
Leaving the hospital room, Giang Ninh was waiting in the hallway. In her hand she held a document clip.
"Diabetes."
"YES."
“The divorce agreement was signed last night.”
She opened the clipboard and showed it to me. Two divorce agreements. Signatures of two people. Ky Lang's name - sharp pen strokes, each stroke shines with toughness. Giang Ninh's name — delicate but steady. The date is — yesterday.
“What about property division?”
“I didn't take anything.” She said, "The house, the savings, the stocks, it all belongs to him. I'm just taking my things away."
I glanced at her. Her facial expression was very calm. Even a little — serene.
“Are you sure?”
"Sure." She chuckled softly, "For two years without married life, what right do you have to divide his assets? It's not reasonable."
I folded the folder and returned it to her.
“So what do you plan to do next?”
“Go back to work.” She said, "My old design studio is still there. Save some money, live your own days."
I nodded. Hesitate approx two seconds. Then he pulled out a business card from his bag and handed it over.
“In Zurich I have a partner who works in architectural design. If you are interested, you can contact him.”
Giang Ninh received the business card and was stunned.
“Tieu Duong…”
“It's not like I forgive you.” I said, "It's - everyone's path will be strong in the future. But what you helped me with, I always remember."
She nodded. Tears threatened to well up around his eyes, but he tried not to let them fall.
