Chapter 14 — The Day I Stopped Fasting, They Lost Everything

This plan was crude, stupid, and full of holes, but in the eyes of the three people who had been cornered, it looked like the only path to paradise. Chu Hao's breathing became rapid, the number twenty billion made him forget all fear and the law.

“But… how can we catch it? We don't have a car, we don't have any tools, we don't even have any medicine.”

Luu Ngoc Mai also began to waver, her voice filled with worry mixed with greed.

“That's right, what if we fail?”

“No failure.”

Chu Le's eyes flashed with crazy confidence.

"I've already figured it all out, we buy rope and tape at the hardware store, go to the pharmacy to buy sleeping pills and then grind them into powder."

"The car was rented in a worn-out car with fake papers, parked in an alley near his house, there was no camera there."

"Wait until he comes home alone at night, we rush out, cover his mouth and stuff him with medicine, he just needs to faint and that's it."

She spoke as if everything was perfect, and the other two were also truly convinced. The fear in their eyes was gradually replaced by greed and madness. Luu Ngoc Mai hit the ground hard and jumped up like a resurrected person.

“Just do it like that, Mom has never done such a big thing in her whole life.”

"If you don't succeed, you'll become a ghost. Hao, you're a man. This time you have to take the lead."

Chu Hao was swept along, his blood heated up, he clenched his fists.

“Okay, let's do it, for the future of the Chu family, to take back everything that belongs to us.”

Three idiots in a dark basement reached an even stupider consensus. But they did not know that their entire plot was being transmitted word by word through a listening device disguised as an electrical outlet. In a far away place, Giang Than and I were sitting in the office looking down at the whole city, clearly hearing every word they said. I took a sip of coffee, my face was not stressed at all, I even felt funny.

“They are more stupid than I thought.”

Giang Than turned off the device and looked at me with somewhat guilty eyes.

“I'm sorry I had to listen to this rubbish, and I'm sorry for putting you in danger.”

I shook my head, my voice calm.

“No need to apologize, they targeted me not because of you, but because of their greedy nature.”

“Even without you, they will still find another way to cling to me.”

I put down the coffee cup, looked at him, the corners of my lips curled meaningfully.

“Besides, I don't see this as dangerous.”

“I find… this is quite an interesting game.”

“If they wanted to play…”

“Then we'll give them a good game.”

Giang Than looked at the light in my eyes, paused for a second, then burst out laughing, the ten thousand year old ice seemed to melt at the corner. He picked up the phone to call his assistant, his voice was calm but cold as a knife.

“Notice down, clean up the abandoned film studio in the west of the city, call the best special effects team, the best security team, and an additional director crew to come immediately.”

"Prepare the livestream equipment for the entire network, this time we have to broadcast it live for the entire world to see."

He hung up the phone and turned to me, his eyes carrying the coldness of someone who is writing the ending for someone else.

"You're the female lead, I'm the director, and together we prepare a splendid ending for them."

I held out my hand, my smile curved like a thin blade.

“Happy cooperation, director Giang.”

He also took my hand, his voice was low short.

“Happy cooperation, Miss Hua.”

Outside the window, the sunlight was as bright as if there had never been darkness, while in the heart of the city, a trial for fools had quietly drawn the curtain. The Chu family, three pitiful and foolish people, were happily walking towards the final trap prepared specifically for them. Night fell like a giant black curtain covering the city, and the old van, as shabby as a mouse, stealthily stopped beside the deserted grass outside the abandoned western film studio. In the car, three people were equally sneaky, Chu Hao sat in the driver's seat, his hands were sweaty, his heart was beating so fast it seemed like it wanted to jump out of his chest. Luu Ngoc Mai sat next to her, muttering incessantly, not knowing whether she was praying or cursing, while Chu Le held cheap binoculars, staring at the lonely warehouse in the distance.

“It's here, it's here.”

She lowered her voice but couldn't hide her excitement.

"It's Hua Tinh's car."

A red Porsche tore through the night into the props area and stopped in front of the warehouse, the lights turned off, the car door opened, I got out in a luxurious evening gown, looking both elegant and weak. I held the phone, my voice trembling as if I was about to cry.

“Giang Than, where are you? You said to wait for me here. Why is there no one in the dark? I'm a bit scared…”

The sound was transmitted directly into the car through the eavesdropping device, making Chu Hao's blood boil and his courage skyrocket.
