Chapter 2
Chapter 2 — The Day You Sent Me To Jail
He doesn't even count as my hired hand. He's just looking after the shop for me.
“Help me do 3 things.” I held up 3 fingers.
"First, today, restructure Chinh Hang's ownership of shares at Tham Thi. No need to do anything big, just transfer the voting rights from the trust fund back to your personal name."
Uncle Tien nodded and quickly typed on his phone to take notes.
“Second, Tham Yen Bach's wedding is in three days, right?”
“The day after tomorrow.” Uncle Tien corrected me, "Hua Nhuoc Tinh's party was urgent so they pushed the schedule forward one day."
Push early. Afraid that I would go out and disrupt the party, the date was changed. I laughed.
"Okay. Second thing... Help me book a plane ticket for the evening of the day after tomorrow. Go anywhere, fly as far as possible."
“What about the third thing?”
I put the stethoscope close to my mouth and spoke very softly:
"Third... Send Tham Thi's Legal department a lawyer's letter. The content is: Chinh Hang Fund's entire investment in Tham Thi Group, starting from today, will enter the capital withdrawal process."
Uncle Tien's hand stopped. He looked up at me, his mouth open.
"Miss... By doing so, Tham Thi's shares will..."
“It will fail.”
“It's not just falling.” Uncle Tien swallowed his saliva, "Hang herself is Tham Thi's biggest investor. If you withdraw capital, market confidence will collapse, other organizations will follow suit. The worst case scenario... Tham Thi's shares will evaporate by half within a week."
“What about the most pessimistic?”
“Bankruptcy, delisting from the stock exchange.”
I nodded.
“Then let it be unlisted.”
Uncle Tien looked at me, speechless for a long time. Through the glass, I saw in his eyes sadness, helplessness, and even a little... very small... gloating. He has followed my father for 20 years. I grew up under my uncle's observation. 4 years ago, when I stubbornly wanted to stay by Tham Yen Bach's side and not let my family interfere, it was Uncle Tien who knelt down and asked me to reconsider. Now he probably wants to say "I told you so". But he didn't say. Just nodded.
“I understand. Will do it today.”
“One more thing.” I add.
“You say it.”
“When I get out of here, don't come pick me up. I'll go on my own.”
When I hung up the phone, I looked at the clock on the wall. 6:40 am. The day after tomorrow is Tham Yen Bach's wedding. He's probably trying on a vest right now. Probably a dark gray, three-layer, high-end tailored suit with a white rose pinned on the chest. He will stand at the other end of the red carpet, waiting for Hua Nhuoc Tinh to come holding the wedding flower. Guests stood up and applauded. MC asked, "Do you agree?" He will say “I agree”. Then give the ring. Kiss. Hug. The whole hall congratulated. How beautiful. Really beautiful. I stood up and followed the warden back to the room. When I reached the door, I suddenly stopped walking.
“Police.”
“What?”
"Is it possible to release people here early? For example... tomorrow?"
The female police officer turned over the documents in her hand.
"Your detention certificate says 15 days. But this sentence of yours..." She frowned, "To be honest, the evidence is very forced. If a lawyer comes, go through the procedure and you'll be released tomorrow."
“A lawyer will come.”
After saying that, I turned around and walked back to the cell. When my sister bit into a melon seed, she saw me coming home and immediately gave me half package of melon seeds.
"What's wrong? Did someone take you out?"
“Yes. I leave tomorrow.”
“That's cool.” She gave me a thumbs up, "So this afternoon, do you want me to have a delicious meal? I heard there's braised pork for lunch this afternoon."
I took the melon seed and bit into one. The shell is very thick, the kernel is very small. But chewing carefully, it feels quite fragrant. 【Chapter 3】 At 2 pm the next day, I walked out of the detention center gate. The sunlight is very bright.
