Chapter 28
Chapter 28 — The White Coat Oath
The big day has finally arrived. From early morning, the small house where Yen temporarily stayed to prepare for the wedding was bustling with laughter and the sound of the makeup and hairdressing team busy preparing for the bride. Minh Thu, as a bridesmaid, was busy running back and forth checking every little detail, unable to hide her excitement on behalf of her best friend.
"Are you shaking?" Minh Thu asked while sitting next to Yen while the makeup artist was meticulously perfecting the final touches on the bride's face.
"Yes," Yen smiled, her hands shaking slightly as she looked in the mirror, the reflection of a radiant bride in the light turquoise wedding dress that she had carefully chosen over the past many months. "But this is a happy thrill, not a worry."
Yen's mother entered the room, her eyes filled with tears when she saw her daughter in a gorgeous wedding dress. "You're so beautiful, Yen," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "I wish your father could be here, seeing his daughter so beautiful."
"I believe, dad is still watching me from somewhere, mom," Yen replied, holding her mother's hand tightly, the two shared a rare emotional moment before entering the big day.
At Associate Professor's house. Truong and Khoa were also busy preparing, although on the outside he tried to keep calm, his eyes could not hide the nervousness mixed with excitement. Nghia, as the best man, constantly teased his best friend to dispel the tense atmosphere.
"Please adjust your tie, it's all out of place," Nghia smiled, helping Khoa adjust his elegant groom's suit. "Are you so nervous? I see your hands shaking."
"I don't deny it," Khoa smiled, taking a deep breath to calm down. "But this is the best thrill I've ever had in my life."
Associate Professor Truong walked in, adjusted his son's collar, his eyes filled with pride. "I'm very happy to see that you have found a worthy partner to spend the rest of your life together. I believe that you two will have a happy, fulfilling married life."
"Thank you, dad, for everything you've done for me, and for Yen too," Khoa replied, his voice choked with emotion. "I promise to always cherish and build a small family that you can be proud of."
The wedding ceremony was held at a luxurious riverside restaurant, the space was delicately decorated with bunches of white and turquoise orchids, reflecting the exact color tones that Yen had chosen. Guests arrived one after another, including Ms. Tam's family, Dr. Son and several colleagues from the district hospital, creating a warm, meaningful scene.
When the opening music sounded, the large door of the banquet hall opened, Yen stepped into her mother's arms, slowly walking towards the stage where Khoa was waiting, his eyes not leaving her gorgeous figure for even a second.
"You're so beautiful," Khoa whispered as Yen approached, holding her hand from her mother's, her eyes filled with deep admiration and love.
"Thank you," Yen replied, smiling happily, clearly feeling her heartbeat pounding in her chest as they both stepped onto the stage, preparing for the sacred moment that was about to take place in the presence of family, friends and close colleagues.
The officiant, a long-time friend of Associate Professor Truong, invited you both to exchange vows. Khoa held Yen's hand, his eyes fixed on hers as his voice rang out clearly in front of all the guests.
"Yen, from the first controversial shift we met, you have taught me so many things — about the courage to face the truth, about sincerity in every smallest action, and about the true meaning of the oath we recited together when wearing a white blouse. Today, in the presence of family and friends, I swear to always love, cherish, and stand by you in all the ups and downs of life, whether peaceful days or trials. the toughest challenge."
The entire banquet hall was silent before those sincere vows, many guests could not hide their emotions, including Yen's mother who was quietly wiping tears of happiness in the front row.
When it was her turn, Yen took a deep breath, her eyes full of love looking straight at Khoa. " Khoa, you were by my side in the most difficult moments, when I had to face the ghosts of the past, when I doubted myself. You taught me that caution and determination are not in conflict, but can complement each other perfectly. I swear I will always be a strong fulcrum for you, build a home full of love with you, and together continue to write the story of the white oath that you both pursued together."
When the two exchanged wedding rings, the entire banquet hall rang with warm applause, mixed with melodious music to celebrate the sacred moment that had just been established. Associate Professor Truong and Yen's mother hugged each other in mutual happiness, officially becoming each other's in-laws through the strong bond of their two children.
"I now declare," the officiant said, his voice filled with solemnity, "that you two have officially become husband and wife in the presence of everyone present here today."
Khoa bent down and gave Yen a gentle but meaningful kiss, marking the official start of their married life. The entire banquet hall exploded in applause and enthusiastic cheers of congratulations from friends and colleagues who had accompanied the couple throughout their long and meaningful journey.
The party afterward took place in a warm atmosphere, filled with laughter. Nghia, as MC and best man, hosted the humorous yet emotional program, recounting memorable memories throughout the process of knowing the couple, making many guests laugh and shed emotional tears.
"I still vividly remember the day these two people had a heated argument in the on-call room. Everyone thought they hated each other so much that they couldn't stand each other," Nghia said, making the entire banquet hall burst into laughter. "Who would have thought that just a few months later, they would become the most beautiful couple I've ever known."
Ms. Tam, when invited to give a congratulatory speech, could not hide her emotions when recounting her own story - how Yen and Khoa courageously stood up for what was right, helping her receive the justice she deserved. "My two children are the most vivid proof that integrity and sincere love are always rewarded," she said, her voice choked up.
It was Dr. Phat's turn, who was also invited to attend as a colleague who had experienced the biggest event in his career with Yen and Khoa, stepped onto the stage, his voice filled with emotion as he held the microphone. "I was once the person who made the most serious mistake in my career, but thanks to the courage and compassion of my two children, I had the opportunity to correct and redeem myself in the most meaningful way. Today, I came here not only to congratulate my two children on their happiness, but also to once again send my most sincere thanks."
The entire banquet hall was silent before that sincere sharing. Many people could not hide their emotions when witnessing the meaningful journey of reconciliation and atonement of the once mistaken doctor. Yen walked over and hugged Dr. Phat in a burst of emotion. "Thank you for coming, and thank you for always trying to turn mistakes into meaningful lessons for a whole generation of young doctors."
The party continued with cutting the wedding cake, pouring champagne to celebrate, and fun dancing performances from friends and colleagues. Yen and Khoa reserved a slow song to dance together in the middle of the banquet hall, their eyes never leaving each other throughout the dance, as if there was no one else around but the two of them.
"Thank you, for agreeing to be my wife," Khoa whispered in her ear as the two slowly rotated to the melodious melody. "I never thought I could be this happy."
"Thank you, for waiting patiently, for always believing in me, even when I doubted myself," Yen replied, resting her head on his shoulder, feeling the fullness of happiness in this sacred moment.
As the party gradually came to an end, the two stood on stage, bowed their heads and thanked all the guests for coming to celebrate, marking the complete end of the most important day of their lives, and at the same time opening a completely new and promising chapter in both of their lives - the chapter of a small family built on the foundation of love, understanding and a common vow that they both vow to stick with for the rest of their lives.
