Chapter 3
Chapter 3 — After the Fire Ends, I Return
He probably didn't expect me to say that, his tone softened a bit.
"Okay, stop hinting. Tomorrow I will ask my assistant to bring you a necklace as compensation. Be good."
The phone hung up, Khuong Van crossed her arms and looked at me.
“Your laugh just now gave me goosebumps.”
I bent down and took out a kraft paper bag from the bottom floor of the shoe cabinet. Inside are all records of the fire three years ago. At the top is an old photo. Luc Canh Xuyen was stuck in the kitchen of the banquet hall. I rushed in to push him out, and my back was hit by a burning oil pan. Later, everyone said, it was Lam Vi who cried and called the fire department, it was she who saved Luc Canh Xuyen's life. Luc Canh Xuyen also believes so. I never argued. Khuong Van saw the photo and her face turned gloomy.
“Are you going to tell the truth?”
“It's not time yet.”
“So why did you take this out?”
I sealed the paper bag.
“When registering for marriage, you must bring your ID card.”
Khuong Van stared at me for a long time: "Do you really have someone?" My phone lit up again. Some strange devices send messages to:
"Tomorrow morning at eight o'clock, in front of the Civil Affairs Department. I'll wait for you."
Khuong Van leaned closer, read the sender's name clearly, then stood up immediately.
“Tham Duat?!”
She lowered her voice: "Hua Duong, you can cancel your marriage with Luc Canh Xuyen, but don't use yourself as a bet. Do you know what kind of person Tham Duat is? With that face of his, women pursuing him will probably line up from the city center to the riverbank. If you sign up with him, Luc Canh Xuyen will go crazy." I locked my phone screen.
“What I want is for him to go crazy.”
* At 7:30 the next morning, Luc Canh Xuyen's assistant brought the necklace to the apartment. The red velvet box opened to reveal a silver necklace so thin it was almost invisible. Khuong Van picked it up and glanced at it.
“Nine hundred and ninety-nine yuan, the salesperson at the shopping center would probably want to quit his job if he saw it.”
The assistant stood awkwardly outside the door.
"Miss Hua, Boss Luc said, everyone is busy before the wedding, please don't get angry because of the hotel issue. Ms. Lam's health is not good, she is mentally sensitive, I hope you will be a little more tolerant."
I looked up at him.
“Are these words Luc Canh Xuyen asked you to convey?”
The assistant avoided my eyes.
"Boss Luc also said, you don't need to go to Van Lan Hall over there, avoid meeting Ms. Lam, she won't feel comfortable."
Khuong Van slapped the table: "She robbed someone else's wedding hall and she's not allowed to go away? Why doesn't she go to the temple to carry the merit box home and tell guests from all over that they won't be able to walk away naturally if they look at her?" The assistant's face darkened.
"Miss Khuong, please don't be so harsh."
“What I say is harsh, you guys do bad things, who loses more face?”
I pushed the necklace box back.
“Pay him.”
The assistant did not receive it.
"Miss Hua, Boss Luc told me, if you don't accept, he will be angry."
“Then let him be angry.”
The assistant's voice also turned cold.
"Boss Luc also said that the guest list has been sent out, and the Luc family's reputation is very important. If you temporarily cause trouble, the Hua family's side will not be glorious."
I looked at him: “Are you threatening me?” The assistant coughed: "I'm just reminding you that when a woman gets married, the most taboo thing is to back down." Khuong Van grabbed the umbrella by the door: "Are you out of the way?" The assistant quickly took a step back: "Miss Hua, my words have been conveyed. Think carefully for yourself." The door closed, Khuong Van was still cursing.
"An assistant dares to climb on your head. How does Luc Canh Xuyen usually talk about you to them?"
“Said I couldn't live without him.”
I picked up my bag.
“Let's go.”
“Where to?”
“Department of Civil Affairs.”
* In front of the Civil Affairs Department, Tham Duat was leaning against a black car.
