Chapter 13 — Contact Person Number One

He rushed to the hospital. Indeed, his first question asked about my injury, but he only asked that question. Next, the thing you are most concerned about is why no one informed you, and why I removed you from the authorization list. As for whether I was in pain, whether I was scared, whether other people on the flight were injured... they were all quickly pushed to the back.

“Thuong Du Bach.”

“When I removed your name from the list, were you very upset?”

His face darkened.

“I am your husband.”

“You should of course be the first to know.”

“It turns out that being pushed out is really going to be that uncomfortable.”

He understood what I meant, his eyes turned cold.

“Do you absolutely have to settle accounts with me at this time?”

“There is no accounting.” My voice is still calm. “Just let me experience a little, the formality I think is not important.”

Thuong Du Bach stared at me. After a while, he pulled out a chair and sat down.

“I told the hospital to change the contact person.”

“Oh.”

“Diep Vi An will move back to be medical liaison number 2.”

“It has nothing to do with me.”

His fingers tightened slightly.

“Aren't you always waiting for me to change it back?”

“I can't wait anymore.”

“Today is the thirtieth day.”

“Yes.” I looked out the window. “I changed on the last day.”

“Is it late?” he asked retortly.

I did not answer. Thuong Du Bach probably also realized that his attitude was wrong, so he softened his tone.

“Gia Duong, I admit that this matter was not handled well.”

"You shouldn't have kept it a secret from me."

“But you and Diep Vi An really have nothing.”

“I want you to fire her, you can also think about it.”

“I'm not asking you to fire her.”

“So what do you want in the end?” He finally lost a little control. "I changed the contact person, canceled her accompanying schedule, and the seating at the charity fund can also be adjusted. How much more do you want me to do?"

I looked at him.

“I want to know why.”

“Why what?”

“Why do you know the system can add contacts, but still deliberately delete my name?”

“Why do you know how much emergency contact number 1 means to me, but still give it to someone else?”

“Why do I give you thirty days, you would rather ask me to cooperate over and over again, than refuse to answer this question.”

The hospital room is so quiet that only the gentle "beep" of the machines can be heard. Thuong Du Bach avoided my eyes. I suddenly reached the edge of the answer. Although not complete, it is enough to prove that he is still hiding something.

“Because of the last wedding anniversary, right?” I asked.

His eyes changed violently. Indeed. That day I was negotiating a merger in Zurich. The scheduled evening flight was canceled because of a snowstorm. I called to explain to him, promising to fly back early the next morning. He just said one sentence "I know". When I returned home, everything in the house was still normal. He did not argue, nor did he repeat it. I thought that was over. Turns out it was always there. A few months later, he turned that thorn into a one-click delete from his contact list.

“You feel like I don't care about you.” I looked at him. “So I pushed Diep Vi An ranked No. 1.”

“You want to see when I will find out.”

Thuong Du Bach's jaw was tense.

“I don't have that much free time.”

“Then you deny it.”

He didn't say anything. I continued to ask: "Do you want me to be jealous?"

“Want to see me stressed?”

“You want me to realize that besides me, there is always another woman who can stand by your side at any time?”

“That's enough.” His voice suddenly dropped. “Yes.”

I remained silent.
