Chapter 3 — Forty Billion And People Only Ask For A Kitchen

A week later, Ngoc Han posted a photo of the branded bag online.

“Self-bonus after signing a new contract.”

Duc Tai did not sign any contract. I know because the supplier mistakenly sent a debt notification email to Minh Khang. Three hundred and sixty million in unpaid materials, additional warehouse rent and staff salaries.

Minh Khang read the email but said nothing. That night, he received a call from his sister. Ngoc Han cried, saying Duc Tai was deceived by his partner, only needing 200 million to keep the company from collapsing.

“You don't,” he replied.

“You say that because your wife won't let you, right?”

He was silent.

“Since the day I got married, I have changed.”

I heard every word from the dinner table. He hung up the phone and sat by the window for a long time.

“Do you regret marrying me?” I asked.

He turned around, a surprised look on his face.

“Why do you ask that?”

“Because my sister thinks you took away her little brother.”

He walked over and put his hand on my shoulder.

"I didn't take you away from anyone. I chose my own family."

On Mrs. Huong's birthday, Ngoc Han booked a banquet table for nearly 30 million. She invited all her relatives, saying she wanted to "have fun" with everyone. When the dish was just served, Duc Tai raised his glass.

"This year our family can turn a new page. As long as Khang supports 500 million, the company will come back to life."

Minh Khang put down his glass.

“I don't have it.”

“Don't have or don't want?”

Ngoc Han said, her voice loud enough for the whole table to hear.

"My salary is more than ten million, why does it run out every month? My wife is unemployed but still lives like before, where does the money come from?"

I didn't blink.

“Are you asking about my husband and I's money in front of everyone?”

“If you two are clean, why bother?”

Minh Khang stood up.

"Sister, I can't borrow and don't want to borrow either. You guys can solve your problem on your own."

Mrs. Huong hugged her chest and said her son was not filial. Duc Tai slammed his hand on the table. I pulled Minh Khang out before things turned into a bigger drama.

In the parking lot, he leaned against the wall, breathing heavily.

“Are you tired?”

"Tired. But not because I don't give money. Tired because every time I meet them, I have to prove I'm a good person by making myself poor."

I'm not talking about the money in the account. Just give him a hug.

That night, I decided I wouldn't just keep the money. I will build a life so that no one can use filial piety or love to force us back into the old hole.
