Chapter 8
Chapter 8 — How Much Does Love Cost?
He was like an angry mad cow, rushing straight in front of me, pointing his finger at my nose.
"To Vy! Are you crazy? Do you still speak human language?"
"That's your biological father! He's about to die!"
Saliva almost splashed into my face. I took a step back and looked at him coldly.
“I'm not crazy.”
“I'm just seriously implementing my father's educational philosophy.”
"Have you forgotten? That year at the university entrance celebration party, you were the first person to stand up and support."
"He said this is the wisdom of an educator, the best method to train one's character."
“Uncle also said that this is a family heirloom of the To family.”
"If the family treasure is so good, it's okay to use it on me, but it's not okay to use it on my dad?"
“Isn't that… a bit of a double standard?”
Every word I said was like a sharp, precise blade stabbing into his most fake place. The eldest uncle's face immediately turned red and purple like pig liver. He was speechless, his finger pointing at me trembled.
“You… you… are such an ungrateful child!”
“That's right, you are ungrateful.”
I casually admitted.
"After all, I'm just a product 'trained' by my father."
“A failed product, cold-blooded, not accepting relatives.”
“Isn't that exactly what he wants?”
I turned to my second uncle, cousin and the rest of my relatives.
“Didn't everyone back then also find that method very good?”
“So why doesn't anyone say anything now?”
No one dared to look me straight in the eyes. Some people bowed their heads, others turned their faces away. The more enthusiastic they followed that year... The more humiliating this moment is. The person who started this tragedy was my father. As for each of them... They were all silent accomplices, even applauding. It's time for them to taste the bitter fruit they sowed. In the midst of the struggle, my mother suddenly burst into tears. She rushed forward and grabbed my arm, almost kneeling down in front of me.
"Vy Vy! I beg you! Don't be like that!"
"Your dad is really going to die! He's really going to die!"
“Can you save him? Can you save him?”
She cried until her heart was broken, causing even the patient's family members in the hallway to look over curiously. I supported her, not letting her kneel down. Looking at that old face full of tears, it's not like my heart doesn't waver. But that fluctuation was quickly covered by a deeper coldness.
“Mom, you stand up first.”
"That year when I was so hungry that I fainted in front of the cafeteria... where were you, mom?"
"That year when To Loi drove an Audi and stood in front of me bragging... where was mom?"
"That year when dad pointed at me, scolded me for being useless, and forced me to quit school... where was mom?"
“Mom just stood by, silently crying.”
“A mother's tears cannot save her child.”
“We couldn't save him either.”
What I said made my mother's cries immediately choke. She looked at me bewildered, as if meeting this girl for the first time. The little girl that year is dead. Died during that National Day holiday. Died next to the Audi that rushed past him. Die in cold words:
“Fainting only proves that you are not resilient enough.”
Standing in front of them now... was an avenger created by their own hands. An angry scream interrupted my thoughts. To Loi rushed forward, pushed my mother away, raised his fist to hit me straight in the face.
“I'll beat that white-eyed wolf to death you!"
I don't dodge. But his fist stopped exactly one centimeter from my face. A doctor wearing a white coat held his wrist tightly.
“In the hospital, it is forbidden to move your hands or feet!”
Behind the doctor were two security guards following. To Loi pulled away a few times but couldn't escape. He could only glare at me fiercely.
“You just wait! I won't let you go!”
The doctor frowned and looked at all of our family members.
“Have you finally finished discussing pre-surgery?”
“ICU beds are currently in short supply. If we don't pay the full fee today, we can only move the patient to a regular room."
Everyone knows that with my father's current condition, moving to a regular room is like waiting for death. The eldest uncle began to get impatient and turned to the second uncle.
“Brother, look…”
The second uncle sighed and shook his head.
