Chapter 8
Chapter 8 — I'm Not A Loser
Then he spoke, his voice calm and cold.
“First, this house is my pre-marital property.”
“Second, he used my papers as mortgage, the court accepted it.”
"Third, his mother pushed me and threatened to have a miscarriage. The police filed a case."
The entire hall immediately fell silent. Ha Xuyen was about to say more. But I didn't give him a chance. I took the paper out of the lunch box and slapped it on the table.
“Fourth, after I got pregnant, his mother gave me leftovers every day, and also fed him sea cucumber and abalone.”
“I even wrote in the lunch box that the baby in my belly was a loss.”
As soon as that sentence ended, even the person who liked to watch the excitement stopped saying anything. The air became heavy. Duong Duyet immediately continued, his voice full of anger.
“And Bach Vy too.”
“Remittance statements, messages, prenatal check-up photos, do you need me to read them one by one?”
The receptionist girl's face was red with anger.
“You are truly disgusting.”
His eyes looked at him full of contempt. At that moment, Chu Tu stepped out of the elevator. He is the deputy general in charge of finance, also my direct superior. He glanced at the pile of papers on the table, then looked at Ha Xuyen.
“This is the place to work.”
“If you continue to cause trouble, I will call the police.”
His voice was low but powerful. Ha Xuyen gritted his teeth.
“You are all on her side.”
Chu Tu didn't answer, just turned to ask me.
“Do you need to call security?”
I nodded. When the security guard pulled Ha Xuyen out, he suddenly struggled back and shouted at me.
“Du Sinh, don't think you won.”
"The baby is born, don't you dare take it away alone."
Those words made the last bit of hesitation in me disappear. I put my hand on my stomach and looked straight at him.
“Don't worry.”
"Someone like you, even if I have the right to hold her once... I will keep her for her."
He was dragged out of the hall, still cursing. But this time… no one believes him anymore. Everyone's eyes were filled with only contempt. At noon, Chu Tu called me to his office. He didn't say many comforting words. Just pushed a cup of warm water towards me.
“I have already told the administration.”
"Your position remains the same, maternity leave is still according to regulations, anyone who dares to discuss it will be responsible."
I held the glass of water, my nose suddenly sour. These past few days I have heard too many disgusting words, too many attempts and even threats. On the contrary, it's normal support like this... that makes people want to cry. Chu Tu said another sentence, his voice still calm as usual.
“One more thing, someone came looking for you just now.”
I paused for a second, my hand gently squeezing the glass of water. The glass of water in my hand almost slipped down. Chu Tu gave me an envelope delivered by the receptionist.
“She didn't come up, just left this.”
I opened the envelope, inside was an obstetric examination paper and a handwritten note. The medical examination showed that... Bach Vy was no longer pregnant. The piece of paper had only one sentence, hastily written but very clear.
“I was tricked, but the one who should win is you, at eight o'clock tonight, the old coffee shop, I give you everything.”
At eight o'clock in the evening, Bui Tranh and I went to the coffee shop. Bach Vy was already sitting there, but she looked different from last time. She had lost a lot of weight, no makeup on her face, and obvious dark circles under her eyes. She pushed a stack of documents towards me, moving quickly as if she wanted to leave immediately instantly.
"In here is a text message telling me to fake a loan contract."
"There's also a recording of him using her photo and documents to make a mortgage through an intermediary."
“I thought… he would really divorce you and marry me.”
She smiled faintly, a bitter smile.
“But as soon as the money arrived, he pushed me out as a substitute.”
The voice was calm, but underneath was an undisguised brokenness. I don't take on her feelings. I just ask one question.
“Why did you help me?”
She looked down at the table for a long time.
"Because La Thai Anh told him... it's okay if my child is no longer there."
"Anyway, there's still a child in your belly that you can give birth to."
“From the beginning to the end… they never considered me human.”
Having finished speaking, she stood up, turned around and left. At the door, she suddenly turned around, her eyes were very strange.
“Du Sinh, don't lose.”
“If you lose… there really is no more justice in this world.”
That sentence fell, heavy as a curse. Three days later, the trial opened. The air in the courtroom was so cold that it made it difficult to breathe. Ha Xuyen's lawyer spoke first, his tone smooth as if he had been preparing for a long time. He said that because I was pregnant, I was emotionally unstable and suspicious, and the recordings and videos were cut together. He said La Thai Anh is just an old woman who doesn't know how to express herself. He said Bach Vy and Ha Xuyen were only in an economic relationship and did not live together outside of marriage. He also said that the house has installment payments after marriage so it must be considered common property. A series of arguments that, at first glance, seem very reasonable. Even La Thai Anh sitting below straightened her back a bit. But when it was Bui Tranh's turn, he only said four words.
“See the evidence.”
Don't add an extra sentence. The first evidence is the pre-marital house purchase contract and the cash flow for deposit payments. The second piece of evidence is the statement proving that I am the one paying the majority of the loan after marriage. The third piece of evidence is the results of the forged signature inspection. The fourth evidence is messages and recordings provided by Bach Vy. The fifth piece of evidence is hospital video and police records. The sixth piece of evidence… is the paper in the lunch box. When that piece of paper was projected onto the screen, the entire courtroom let out a soft sniffle.
“Son, eat more, don't let the stuff in your stomach exhaust you.”
Just one sentence, but it completely exposed the hidden cruelty of their family. Lawyer Ha Xuyen also wanted to explain that it was just a slip of words.
