Chapter 1
Chapter 1 — Make Me Kneel to His Mistress, and I Will Reclaim His Fortune
Force Me to Kneel and Apologize to Tieu Tam? With Just One Phone Call, I Freeze His Trillion Assets On the last night of the year, the wind blew from the emergency exit door into the hospital hallway. It hit my face and felt as painful as old sandpaper rubbing against my skin. The first shout: “Kneel down!” Echoed in the cold hallway. I didn't move. In front of my knees is the cold tile floor. Behind me was the steady sound of the ventilator in my mother's hospital room. Every sound, every sound. It's like tapping right into my bones. In sight, Pho Van Dinh slowly took off his leather gloves. The custom wedding ring on his finger reflected in the pale white light of the hospital, emitting a blinding streak of light. He was wearing a perfectly tailored black jacket. On the lapel is a silver pin. Hair is groomed without any disturbance. Even the watch face on the wrist is so clean that it seems like it has never had a speck of earthly dust. He looked at me. His eyes looked like he was looking at an old cardboard box blocking the road.
"So Van Ninh, I told you, Vy Vy's hand cannot be injured."
His voice was very light. Light but carrying the nobility of someone accustomed to giving orders.
“First time.”
He raised his hand, pointing to the ground. I don't kneel. Just quietly looked at Lam Vy Vy standing behind him. She hugged her wrist, which was not red at all. A white cashmere shawl hung loosely on her shoulders. The new diamond in my hand sparkled so brightly that it was dazzling.
“Deputy President, stop it.”
She said gently.
“She didn't mean to throw hot water on my hand.”
“She just cares too much about you.”
Pho Van Dinh's face became even more gloomy.
“Second time.”
He took a step forward. The toe of the shoe stops right in front of my knee. A faint bitter taste spread in my mouth. I still didn't move. Not even his eyelids blinked once. I just looked towards the end of the hallway. Look at the five words “Special Care Area”. Watching the young nurses behind the counter secretly raise their heads. Look at the driver of the Pho family. Look at the bodyguard. Look at Lam Vy Vy's assistant. Everyone stood in a semi-closed circle. No one spoke up. A housewife wearing an old life jacket and her hair tied loosely. Forced to kneel in front of her husband's lover. In their eyes. At best it's just a show for entertainment. Lam Vy Vy seemed very satisfied with my silence. She raised her wrist a little higher. Her voice was so soft it sounded like it was about to leak water.
“Deputy President, please stop making things difficult for her.”
“Her mother is still inside.”
"The cost of her treatment every day is not low."
“She must be very impatient.”
Finally, a bit of impatience appeared in Pho Van Dinh's eyes.
“So Van Ninh.”
“A smart woman should not use a patient as an excuse to exploit her husband.”
He bowed slightly. Use a volume just loud enough for the two of us to hear.
“Your mother's hospital bills are paid by me.”
“If you still try to maintain that ridiculous tone today…”
“I will immediately tell someone to stop paying.”
Third time. He threw a bill right in my face. The edge of paper grazed the corner of my lips. A small sharp pain immediately flared up on my skin. The paper fell to the ground. Three days of unpaid fees. The warning line is bright red. The entire hallway was so quiet that only the sound of the ventilator could be heard from behind the door. Pho Van Dinh adjusted his sleeve cuffs. As if you just did something very normal.
“Kneel down.”
“I bow my head and apologize to Vy Vy.”
I raised my hand. Use your thumb to slowly wipe away the small blood stains at the corner of your lips. I took out my phone. Not the newest model. Just an old phone that's been used for four years. The corners of the shell are discolored. In front of everyone. I unlock the screen. Called a phone number that had not been contacted for five years. Two words appeared on the screen: The bell rang three times. The call is connected.
“Van Ninh?”
On the other end of the line came an old but calm voice. Bring suppressed impatience. I looked at Pho Van Dinh. Look at Lam Vy Vy. Look at the hospital debt notice on the ground. My voice was very calm. So calm that she doesn't look like a woman whose husband just threatened her with her mother's life.
“Withdraw it all.”
The other end of the line was silent for a second. I add the remaining half of the sentence:
“So that Pho Van Dinh cannot touch even a penny in the account.”
Pho Van Dinh was momentarily stunned, then burst into laughter.
“So Van Ninh, who are you acting for?”
Lam Vy Vy also covered her mouth and laughed softly.
"Sister, don't be like that anymore. The Deputy General hates the type of people who intentionally attract attention with these tricks."
I didn't hang up. Just standing there quietly, listening to the steady sound of the machines in the hospital room. The countdown begins. The smile on Pho Van Dinh's face is still intact. Behind the nurse's counter, the nurse with the ponytail put down the registration book. Her eyes gradually turned from pity to hesitation. Third second. On the other end of the line, Uncle Chau spoke.
"Understood. Within fifteen minutes, I will first block all the money he needs to use tonight."
I hung up. Pho Van Dinh's expression finally showed a crack. Before he could open his mouth, the phone in his pocket rang. As soon as he heard the two sentences, his face immediately darkened.
“What do you mean by not being able to pay?”
He turned around, lowering his voice.
"Tonight's jewelry order is for Vy Vy, first swipe my personal card."
The other end of the line said something again. Pho Van Dinh's arm stopped in midair. Lam Vy Vy immediately approached. Intentionally let everyone hear.
“Deputy President, that ring is not important.”
“You don't have to wear it tonight.”
Deputy Van Dinh hung up the phone. The eyes looking at me were no longer just disgusted. But there are also a few more investigative parts.
“What did you do?”
I bent down to pick up the bill from the ground. Fold it up and put it in your pocket.
“Don't you want me to kneel?”
I raised my head to look at him.
