Chapter 17
Chapter 17 — Make Me Kneel to His Mistress, and I Will Reclaim His Fortune
“Don't say.”
“When someone like you opens his mouth, he's playing a trick.”
“Hearing too much hurts.”
Pho Van Dinh's voice was hoarse.
“So Van Ninh.”
“I came to apologize.”
Hua Man burst out laughing.
“Does Mr. Pho also know how to speak human language?”
I walked out of the hospital room. Close the door. Deputy Van Dinh followed me to the end of the hallway. He took out a stack of documents from his file bag.
“This is all I can compile from the company's books over the past few years.”
“If you want to take it back.”
“I will coordinate.”
I looked at the stack of papers.
“Not like you.”
He smiled bitterly.
“So what do I look like?”
“Like someone who would beg me not to make the first move.”
“Then look for opportunities to bite back.”
His expression was very unsightly. But no objection. After a while he said:
“Van Ninh.”
“I've been thinking all night.”
“What happened five years ago…”
“I really don't know that much.”
“My mother hid it from me.”
“And you also hid it from me.”
I looked at him.
“So is it my fault?”
He immediately denied it.
“I didn't mean that.”
“I just wanted to ask…”
“Why didn't you say anything sooner?”
That question again. Round and round. Still the same question. I looked at the emergency exit door at the end of the hallway.
“Pho Van Dinh.”
“Self-esteem is something I want to keep.”
“The secret is something I help you keep.”
“Now you take that same secret and blame me?”
He lowered his eyes.
"I do not have."
He didn't argue anymore. A long time later. He just spoke up.
“Lam Vy Vy has been suspended from work.”
"I will also publicly correct the charity project."
“I will add your name.”
"No need."
He raised his head.
“Because when I did it.”
"I'm not waiting for you to make up for it today."
The awkwardness on his face became even more obvious.
“So what do you want me to do?”
“Don't appear in front of my mother again.”
His whole body stiffened.
“Van Ninh…”
“And the matter of Lam Vy Vy stealing documents.”
“I will pursue it to the end.”
He immediately said:
“She knows it's wrong.”
I can't laugh.
“Are you still praying for her?”
“I don't have to beg.”
He ruffled his hair vigorously.
“She lost control last night.”
“I still have some company documents in my hand.”
“If you press too hard.”
“Maybe she will riot.”
I looked straight at him.
“I'm afraid she'll destroy me.”
“Or afraid she will destroy me?”
He couldn't answer. Hua Man stood not far away. Cross your arms and lean against the wall.
“Pho Van Dinh.”
“Do you know what type of person you are?”
“Bad is not bad to the end.”
“But cowardice is cowardice to the core.”
Pho Van Dinh's face turned pale. I turned around to leave. Right at that moment. He suddenly spoke up.
“In the hands of Lam Vy Vy…”
“It's not just that agreement.”
I stopped.
“What else?”
He hesitated. Hua Man immediately scolded:
“If you have a fart, let it go!”
Pho Van Dinh lowered his voice.
"Yesterday."
“She used to threaten me.”
“Says she knows the truth about your mother's hospitalization that year.”
I immediately turned back.
“What do you mean?”
“She said…”
“If you keep pushing.”
“She will let you know.”
“Your mother became what she is now…”
“It was not an accident.”
The hallway immediately fell silent. The phone at the nurse's station rang. Someone picked up the phone. Put it down again. The sound seemed to come from far away. I walked in front of Pho Van Dinh. Every word is cold and scary.
“Say it again.”
His throat moved slightly. Eyes avoided.
“She said.”
“My mother's story…”
“It was not an accident.”
I took out my phone. Call Uncle Chau. That's the second most important call. The phone has just connected. I said immediately:
“Investigation of Lam Vy Vy.”
Uncle Chau did not ask why. Just calmly ask:
“How much investigation?”
I looked through the glass window. Mom is still lying still in the hospital bed. Thin hands placed on the white blanket. Last five years. I used to think I endured everything because of her. But this moment. I suddenly realized. Perhaps there are debts. It's not just a matter of five years. Which started a long time ago. I tightened my grip on the phone. The voice was so calm that even I felt strange.
“Dig it all up.”
“Her past.”
“Her family.”
“People she has come into contact with.”
“Places she used to go to.”
“I want to know.”
“What is she hiding?”
The other end of the line. Uncle Chau was silent for two seconds. Then answer:
“Yes, Miss.”
“I will bring the whole truth before you.”
I looked at Pho Van Dinh.
“Investigate for me.”
"Before joining Pho Van Dinh's company, did Lam Vy Vy ever meet anyone?"
“Receive money from someone.”
“And why was it aimed at me in the first place?”
The other end of the line was silent for a moment. Then Uncle Chau's voice became serious.
“Miss.”
“Your mother's records from that year... were tampered with.”
My hand tightened on the phone. Pho Van Dinh immediately raised his head to look at me. Uncle Chau continued:
“I just received the news.”
“In the hospital's old archives, there is a signed confirmation sheet missing.”
“Still investigating.”
“But the last time someone looked up the records…”
“A member of the Pho family.”
Pho Van Dinh's face immediately changed.
“The Pho family?”
I hung up. End of hallway. Pho's mother was carrying a box of thermal protection.
