Chapter 15
Chapter 15 — My Husband Fake His Death To Hurt Me, It Ended Up...
"For someone I can never make up for. I hope... no one will repeat my mistake."
I stood still. For a moment... I didn't know what to feel.
“Where does this… come from?” I asked.
The child pointed towards the director.
"The dean said it was a gift from a good person. That person said he wanted us to study law... so we wouldn't go down the wrong path like him."
I looked at the book in my hand. A very strange feeling arose in my heart. Co Mac Han... he wrote a book... and gave it to orphans?
“General Luc, what's wrong with you?” The director asked.
"Nothing."
I gave the book back to the child.
“This book is very good.”
“Remember to study well.”
The child nodded, smiled and ran away. I turned to the principal.
“If you need anything in the future, just let me know.”
“Thank you, Mr. Luc!” She said emotionally.
Leave the orphanage. I drove back to the company. The phone vibrates. Luc Vien's message.
"Sister, I heard you went to an orphanage? How was it there?"
I replied.
“Very well, the children are so lovely.”
The next message came very quickly.
"Sister, I heard that Co Mac Han is doing charity work in prison. Did you know?"
I looked at the screen. Short answer.
“I know.”
After a while, Luc Vien asked again.
“Do you really think he's making amends?”
I type each word.
“But it has nothing to do with you.”
“Each person has his own path.”
I put down the phone. I don't waver. Just a bit of a surprise. As for my decision— it will never change. One year later. Co Mac Han's prison sentence is more than half way through. In prison, he was always evaluated well and even had a chance to have his sentence reduced. Haven't seen him yet. Until one day. I received a letter. The sender is an unfamiliar name. But very quickly, I looked it up — it was Co Mac Han's cellmate. I opened the letter. Slowly read each line.
"Miss Luc, I am Co Mac Han's cellmate. I am writing this letter to tell you a few things."
"In prison, he regrets every day. He often says... he owes you too much, he can't repay her in his whole life."
"But he's still trying to atone for his mistakes. Writing books, doing charity work, helping other prisoners... he's doing everything to the fullest."
"Last month, there was a fire in the prison. Everyone ran out, only he... went against the flow of people, carrying each person out in turn."
“He saved three people.”
“As for myself… I was seriously burned and had to be hospitalized for two months.”
“I still clearly remember when he was in a coma… he kept calling a name.”
“Luc Van… sorry…”
“Miss Luc, I know you won't forgive him.”
“But I still want to say…”
“He's really changing.”
“He hopes… one day he can personally say sorry to you.”
I was silent for a long time. Co Mac Han… he… saved three lives? And almost died in a sea of fire? I put the letter down. Walk to the glass door. Looking at the city in the afternoon light.
“The final challenge…”
I said softly. Then hold the phone. Call Truong Minh.
“Lawyer Truong, do me a favor.”
“I want to meet Co Mac Han.”
The other end of the line was silent for a second.
“Mr. Lu… didn't you say you wouldn't see him again?”
“But this time… I want to meet.”
“This will be the last time.”
One week later. I went to prison. The visiting room is still as cold as before. Co Mac Han sat behind the glass. Compared to a year ago, Mr I look better. But on his arms... the burn scars are still clearly visible. He saw me. Shocked eyes. Then it immediately turned into a complex, unspeakable emotion. His voice trembled.
“You… why did you come here?”
I sat down opposite. Calm eyes.
“I received a letter.”
He was stunned.
“Letter from your cellmate.”
I looked down at his arm. His eyes stopped at the scars.
“That person said… you saved three people.”
“Almost died in the fire.”
I stopped for a beat.
“Also… when you were in a coma, you called my name.”
His expression changed. He bowed his head. Don't dare look at me.
“Is it true?” I asked.
A long time later. He just spoke up.
"Why?" I looked at him.
He raised his head. This look... no longer lies. Only sincerity remains.
“Because I want to make amends.”
“I know I owe you too much… I can't pay it off in this lifetime.”
“But I don't want to hide anymore.”
“I want to spend the rest of my life… making amends.”
“This is a promise.”
“Even if you never forgive me… I will still do it.”
I looked at him. Silence for a long time.
“Do you know why I came?”
He shook his head.
“I came… to confirm something.”
“I want to know… whether you have really changed or not.”
I stopped. Look him straight in the eye.
“I confirm.”
There was a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
“So… can you…”
“forgive me?”
I stood up. Look at him. His voice remained calm as before.
“Co Mac Han.”
“I will not forgive you.”
"Temporary."
“I'm just giving you one chance.”
“Know how to appreciate it.”
I turned around. But still keep talking.
“From today, you can write to me.”
“Tell me about my path to redemption.”
“Maybe… one day…”
“I will think again.”
Tears fell from his eyes. Can't hold back.
“Thank you… Luc Van…”
“Thank you…”
I walked towards the door. Behind him, his voice rang out.
“Luc Van, I will spend the rest of my life to atone for my mistakes.”
I stopped for a second. Don't turn around.
“Use actions to prove it.”
“Let me… have a reason to believe you.”
He passed the test. But forgiveness...still takes time. Lots of time.
