Chapter 5
Chapter 5 — One Key, Turns the Whole Family Over
They know how. Could it be that there were people of their own beside Lao Ly, or were they following me?
“I don't understand what you're talking about.” I tried to stay calm.
“Still pretending!” Chu Hao grabbed my hand tightly, his eyes were red, "That old man should have disappeared a long time ago, but he still dares to play tricks behind my back. I tell you it's useless, no one can save you!"
He squeezed so hard that it hurt. At that moment, the main room door was thrown open with a "bang". Mother-in-law rushed out. She was like an angry lion, holding a feather broom in her hand, hitting Chu Hao.
“Ah… ah…” she screamed without a sound, but her eyes were bright, full of anger and protection.
Chu Hao was beaten to the point of dizziness and instinctively let go of my hand. Sister Liu also quickly ran out to try to pull her back.
“Don't touch me!” Her mother-in-law waved her hand hard, causing her to stagger.
She stood in front of me like a wall, using her old and weak body to block all evil intentions. Chu Hao held his head, both shocked and angry.
“Mom, what are you doing, are you really crazy!”
My mother-in-law didn't pay attention to him, just stood there protecting me, her cold, alert eyes looking straight at him. The living room was so chaotic that it was impossible to see. I know, she did it on purpose. She used her own way to warn Chu Hao, and was also protecting me. From this moment on, our union is unbreakable. The air in the living room was thick. Chu Hao held his beaten forehead, his face full of surprise and humiliation. Sister Liu stood up from the ground, her face pale, looking at her mother-in-law as if looking at something scary. The mother-in-law gasped, her chest rising and falling violently. After beating, she immediately returned to a state of insanity, her eyes looked blankly forward, and the feather broom fell to the ground. It was as if the aggressive woman just now was just my illusion.
“Crazy, you are really crazy!” Chu Hao shouted, pointing straight at her, "To Van, have you seen, she still beats people, this type of person must be sent to a mental hospital!"
He took out his phone to take a picture, but looking at his struggling appearance, he angrily put it down.
“I don't have time to mess with you two crazy people!”
He threw back a sentence, grabbed the car keys, and rushed out of the house. The sound of the door closing sounded like the whole house was exploding. Sister Liu didn't say a word, bent down to clean up the mess. She helped her mother-in-law up, but her eyes looked at me as cold as knives. I know, everything here must have been reported to Chu Duc Minh immediately. I helped my mother-in-law into the room and covered her with a blanket. In the darkness, she gently squeezed my hand. Warm, and full of strength. That night I slept restlessly, always feeling like revenge was standing right outside the door. Early the next morning, my phone vibrated. An unknown number sent a text message. Just a few short words.
“Lawyer Truong, tomorrow morning at 9 am, Thuy Phong tea house, private room number 12, Ly.”
After reading it, I immediately deleted the message. Old Ly is truly trustworthy. But the problem is, how can I get out? After what happened last night, Sister Liu was almost attached to me. Even when I went out to the balcony to dry clothes, she stood behind me and watched. During breakfast, I pretended to accidentally touch the hot water kettle on the table.
“Ah!” I cried out, hot water poured straight onto the back of my hand.
The piercing pain made me almost unable to stand. The back of my hand immediately turned bright red. This is a miserable plan, but I have no choice other.
“Why are you so careless!” Sister Liu scolded, but there was no worry in her eyes.
“No, it's too hot, I have to go to the hospital.” I was in so much pain that my eyes were wet, this time it wasn't an act.
“There's a clinic downstairs.” Sister Liu immediately said.
"The clinic is not suitable. If this type of burn is not treated well, it will leave scars." I was determined, picked up my bag and stood up, "I'll take a taxi to the hospital in the city. Please tell Chu Hao for me."
Sister Liu was about to say something, but I rushed straight to the door. I didn't dare turn my head, afraid of meeting her suspicious eyes. The burning feeling on my hand reminded me to take advantage of every second. I didn't go to the hospital, but took a taxi straight to Thuy Phong Tea House. In a private room, I met lawyer Truong. He is about forty years old, wears gold-rimmed glasses, has calm eyes, and an elegant demeanor. He didn't beat around the bush and signaled me to sit down.
"Uncle Ly has briefly told you the situation and the evidence you are bringing with you."
I showed him the photo of the notebook on my phone. He looked very carefully, turning each page, sometimes frowning, sometimes nodding slightly.
“The situation is more complicated than I thought.” He put down the phone, looked at me, "Miss To Van, first of all, these photos are very difficult to become direct evidence, we need the originals."
I nodded, this I had expected.
“Second,” he continued, “this book is not only related to the dispersal of assets, but also shows signs of money laundering through Hong Phat Construction Materials accounts. If reported to the police, Chu Duc Minh will face criminal liability, but the situation will go out of control, her mother-in-law's assets may be frozen or confiscated, this is not the best option.”
My heart sank.
“So what should I do?”
“To fight a snake, you have to hit the weak spot.” Lawyer Truong tapped his finger lightly on the table, "Criminal proceedings are the last weapon. They cannot be used haphazardly. What we need is a blow that will make him lose his honor and force him to sit at the negotiating table."
He enlarged a page in the notebook and pointed to the name "Cao Tue".
"This person is evidence of adultery, plus evidence of tax evasion. If only exposed, his company, social status and entire life will collapse. He doesn't dare to bet."
I understand what you mean. To win, you must grasp Chu Duc Minh's most direct weakness.
“What should I do?”
"You need to find a way to get more specific evidence. Your mother-in-law definitely knows where they are hidden."
An hour later, I left the tea house. Lawyer Truong's words gave me clear direction, but also brought greater pressure. I have to find a way to privately contact my mother-in-law again. I walked out onto the street, full of thought, just about to catch a ride when I suddenly saw a familiar car. A black Audi. Park across the street, under the shade of a tree. That's Chu Hao's car. If he doesn't go, why is he here? The blood in my body cooled by half. He's following me.
