Chapter 25
Chapter 25 — Pride And Scholarship
"Khoi," Hoai An began, her voice shaking slightly but her eyes filled with determination, "I have thought very carefully about your question. And my answer is... I agree."
Minh Khoi's face lit up with indescribable happiness, his eyes sparkled as if he had just received the most precious gift of his life. “You... you really agree?” he asked again, his voice still filled with shock from happiness.
"Yes," Hoai An nodded, smiling, "I realized, I don't need to wait until everything is perfect to dare to open my heart to receive happiness. You have always been by my side, supporting me through all difficulties, and I believe, together, we will overcome even more challenges in the future."
Minh Khoi couldn't help but pull her into a tight hug, spinning her around in excitement before remembering the need to maintain moderation in public. “Thank you,” he whispered in her ear, his voice filled with emotion, “thank you for giving me the opportunity to be an important part of your life.”
The two of them stood there in the middle of a small park, the sunset dyed the surrounding space golden, creating a romantic, warm scene for the moment of officially starting a new relationship between them - a relationship built on a solid foundation of understanding, respect, and even the challenges they had overcome together for many months.
The next day at school, the news that Hoai An and Minh Khoi officially became a couple quickly spread, but this time, there were no malicious rumors like before, but instead there were sincere congratulations from many friends and teachers.
Bao Tran, upon hearing the news, immediately ran to hug Hoai An in undisguised joy. “It's finally official!” she exclaimed, "I'm so happy for you, Hoai An!"
“Thank you,” Hoai An replied, hugging his best friend back, “I also want to thank you, for always supporting and encouraging me throughout this process.”
“That's what friends should do,” Bao Tran said, smiling, her eyes filled with sincerity, without any trace of jealousy like what she had felt many months ago, when she first witnessed the feelings that arose between the two. "I sincerely wish you both happiness, I hope you and Khoi will always be happy and stick together."
That sincere blessing, coming from the person who once had unrequited feelings for Minh Khoi, made Hoai An even more appreciative of the incredible growth that Bao Tran has experienced throughout her recent journey - from an arrogant, jealous lady, to now a generous friend, willing to put the happiness of others above her own personal feelings.
“You don't feel uncomfortable about this anymore?” Hoai An asked, her voice was gentle, wanting to make sure Bao Tran was really comfortable with this situation.
"At first, yes," Bao Tran admitted, not shying away, "I did have feelings for Khoi, but that's a thing of the past. Looking back now, I realize that those feelings largely stemmed from my loneliness, from my desire to have someone who really understood me, not necessarily true love."
“So how do you feel now?” Hoai An continued asking, curious about the changes in his friend's heart.
“Now I just hope everyone around me is happy,” Bao Tran replied, smiling sincerely, "and maybe, one day, I will also find someone who is truly suitable for me, someone who appreciates me for who I am, not because of status or family background."
“I believe you will find it,” Hoai An said, holding her friend's hand tightly, “you deserve a beautiful love, like what you gave me and Khoi.”
They both laughed and hugged each other again. Their friendship has now gone beyond the initial boundaries of jealousy and envy, becoming a strong, sincere relationship, built on the foundation of absolute mutual understanding and respect.
The good news about Hoai An and Minh Khoi's new relationship also quickly reached Ms. Hanh and Minh Khoi's family. That evening, when Minh Khoi officially informed his parents, Mr. Tuan could not hide his satisfied smile.
“I'm happy for you,” he said, patting his son on the shoulder, “Hoai An is a wonderful girl, I believe you made the right choice.”
"Thank you, dad," Minh Khoi replied, unable to hide his happiness, "I think so too. He taught me a lot about resilience, self-esteem, and how to appreciate the simplest values in life."
Minh Khoi's mother also contributed, her voice full of affection. "I hope you two will always know how to support and understand each other, especially in the difficult times of life. True love is not only sweet moments, but also the ability to overcome storms together."
“I understand,” Minh Khoi nodded, his eyes shining with determination, “I promise to always cherish and protect this relationship, just like how I have always been there to support Hoai An all the time.”
As for Hoai An, when telling her mother about her new official relationship, Ms. Hanh could not hide her emotions. “I'm happy for you,” she said, hugging her daughter, “Khoi is a good boy, I believe you have found someone who truly deserves your affection.”
The entire family, including close friends, gave Hoai An and Minh Khoi sincere blessings, marking a new, happy chapter in the maturity journey of the poor, resilient girl, who overcame many hardships to find love, friendship, and even worthy recognition at this prestigious Royal School.
That weekend, to celebrate both good news — the official relationship of Hoai An and Minh Khoi, along with Ms. Hanh's full recovery — the group of close friends decided to organize a small picnic at the city's central park. Hoai An, Minh Khoi, Bao Tran, Lan Phuong, Thao Nhi, and Ms. Hanh, who for the first time in many months was healthy enough to participate in such an outdoor activity.
"Seeing everyone happy like this, I feel so happy," Ms. Hanh said, sitting on a folding chair under the shade of a cool tree, observing the children playing and playing badminton on the green grass.
“Me too, mom,” Hoai An replied, sitting down next to her mother, resting her head on her shoulder, “I never thought that after just a few months, my life could change so positively.”
Bao Tran, after playing badminton with Lan Phuong for a while, came to sit next to the mother and daughter, holding a glass of cool water to invite Ms. Hanh. “Drink some water,” she said, a bright smile on her lips.
“Thank you,” Ms. Hanh replied, accepting the glass water, her eyes looked at Bao Tran affectionately, "I'm really happy to see you and Hoai An become close friends. You two are truly a beautiful proof that sincere friendship can overcome all barriers, whether rich or poor or any other prejudice."
The picnic lasted until late afternoon, bustling laughter and chatter echoed throughout the park, marking a completely happy day, closing a challenging but also extremely meaningful period in the growth journey of everyone present there.
When the sunset began to fall, dyeing the whole park in a warm orange color, Hoai An stood up and walked around with Minh Khoi, leaving everyone behind still chatting loudly. The two held hands and walked slowly along the small tree-lined path, enjoying a rare private moment amid the crowded picnic.
“Are you happy?” Minh Khoi asked, turning to look at her, his eyes filled with concern.
“Happiest as possible,” Hoai An replied, smiling, resting her head lightly on his shoulder, “I didn't think, just a few months ago, my life could be this complete — a healthy mother, good friends, and a sincere love like this.”
“Me too,” Minh Khoi replied, gently squeezing her hand, “and I believe, this is just the beginning of even better things waiting for us ahead.”
They stood by the small lake in the middle of the park, watching the sunset shimmering on the water, enjoying complete peace after a long and turbulent journey, marking the beautiful end of an important chapter in both of their lives, before moving on together into new, promising chapters of the future, a future that they both believe will continue to be built with the same sincerity and resilience that they have nurtured together throughout the past journey.
