Chapter 12
Chapter 12 — Seventy-Eight Billion And The President Has No Heir
The funding investigation began with a call at five in the morning.
The caller was a bank inspector and asked me to be present to explain the money transferred to An Minh company. I brought all the documents Hoang Nam prepared, including the trust contract and the sealed reward certificate.
The inspector read the documents very carefully.
"We did not conclude that she committed a violation. But someone filed a complaint accusing her of using winning money to manipulate stocks."
“I buy shares at market price.”
"I know. But the source of the complaint has a history of internal transactions."
I realized the person behind it had access to my brokerage account. When he left the bank, Vu was standing under a row of trees.
“Are you following me?”
“I protect witnesses.”
“I am not your witness.”
“You are the one who can bring down both sides.”
He gave me a new phone, with only an encrypted communication app installed.
At the Tan Cuong meeting room, Khai announced that Vu had lost his ability to operate because of "psychological damage after the accident". They proposed to temporarily suspend his right to sign until there is an assessment.
Vu looked at me.
“They will use the story of my disappearance to block all accounts.”
“So let them lock up a company that has a copy of the data.”
I propose to transfer all records to the archives of the independent council. Hoang Nam objected because it was too risky, but I knew if I waited, the data would disappear.
That night, I came home and saw Mrs. Thuan crying. Duyen told her that I took money from my husband's family to buy stocks, then abandoned Khang.
“I can explain,” I said.
Khang shook his head.
“Mom, listen to An first.”
I can't talk about the ticket in front of you. I only show the contract, account history and capital I have previously.
Ms. Thuan still suspected, but for the first time did not come to a conclusion.
When everyone left, Khang asked:
“How much do you still hide from me?”
I looked at the ticket in the drawer, the edges of the paper were frayed.
“Something big enough to change the way I look at you.”
"I've been looking at you for four years. If a piece of paper changes your eyes, it's not the paper's fault."
I want to speak now. But the phone just vibrated. Message from Vu:
"The original will was just stolen. The last person to touch the safe was your husband."
