Chapter 6 — Seventy-Eight Billion And The President Has No Heir

My mother-in-law placed three bills on the table, as if they were proof that I had committed a crime.

"Ms. Duyen said the insurance company lost money because her child left suddenly."

I look at each item. The invoice is in the name of another agent, not me. Duyen used my account to receive commissions, then forwarded them to customers.

“I did not sign these papers.”

Duyen crossed her arms.

"I'm a financial controller, who would believe I don't know?"

Khang walked in from the hallway and put down a lunch box.

"Please explain clearly. I checked the signature."

Duyen turned to her mother.

"Did you see, Mom? His wife turned him against his family."

Mrs. Thuan sighed, but no longer scolded me like usual. Khang opened his phone and showed the recording of Duyen asking him to sign for the goods during a time when I was away.

“I sent a copy to the lawyer,” he said. "You give me back the money, I won't sue."

Duyen's face turned pale. I know Khang has quietly learned how to protect us, even though I never talked about seventy-eight billion.

At Tan Cuong, Hoang Nam and I opened accounting data. Ninety percent of transactions with Bac Nam were approved using the account of a retired deputy general. The servers' logs were deleted on the day Vu had an accident.

Vu stood behind me.

“I don't think this is just embezzlement.”

"No. Someone wants to make you lose your inheritance."

He placed a will on the table. His father once left all of his voting shares to his legal heirs, but the latest notarization said Vu was eliminated because he was "incompetent to manage".

I pointed to the seal.

"This stamp is made with blue ink. The notary office uses black ink."

Hoang Nam looked up.

“Where did you recognize it from?”

"I once checked their bidding documents. The counterfeiter used the same ink."

Vu looked at me, this time no longer cold.

“I need you by my side for longer than six months.”

“Don't talk like you hired a bodyguard.”

“I am asking you to become a strategic shareholder.”

Before I could answer, the system informed me that a new folder had appeared in the data. The folder name is the date I was fired.

In it was a scanned copy of my signature on a payment I had never seen.

I understand: the person who destroyed my career and the person who wanted to take down Vu could be the same person.
