Chapter 19
Chapter 19 — The Emperor gave me a wedding, the General publicly proposed me as his concubine, I threw away my veil and left
My chest felt like it had been hit really hard. When I was a child, there was always a teenager next to my senior. He loves to laugh, often sneaks into the kitchen to get me a sponge cake, and even says that after he returns from the army, he will bring me the strongest horse in the North. Let's try to say:
“Co Hoai Xuyen?”
The broken sword trembled slightly. The person's eyes immediately turned red, but quickly turned cold.
“It's difficult for the lady to still remember.”
We take one more step.
“You... are still alive.”
He laughed. That laughter is harder to hear than crying.
“Living?”
“I was locked up in Black Stone barracks for ten years, chiseling rocks during the day, being interrogated at night, and my name was even erased from my military record.”
“Is that still called living?”
My throat is tight.
“Where is my brother?”
Co Hoai Xuyen's eyes immediately changed.
“Do you still have the face to ask Major General?”
Luc Canh Tham frowned slightly.
“For all these years, she has been kept in the dark about everything in the capital.”
Co Hoai Xuyen suddenly pressed the blade hard.
“Shut up.”
“The Lu family's people have no right to speak up.”
Luc Canh Tham groaned softly, blood flowed from the side of his neck to his collar. I looked at Co Hoai Xuyen.
"You hate the Luc family, you can kill him."
Luc Canh Tham raised his eyes and looked at me. I don't avoid those eyes.
“But first, you must tell me where my elder brother is.”
Co Hoai Xuyen gritted his teeth.
“The major general has been taken away by La Thua Nghiep.”
My heart suddenly sank.
“Is he still alive?”
"Alive."
Co Hoai Xuyen's eyes flashed as red as blood.
“But he won't be able to hold on anymore.”
“La Thua Nghiep sees him as a talisman.”
“That year, the survivors of the Lam family in the Black Stone camp... now there are only seven people left.”
“Last night, after the mansion in the west of the city caught fire, someone went to the old barracks to extinguish the fire.”
"The young general led us to risk his life to open a bloody path to rush out, but La Thua Nghiep's men secretly shot us with dark arrows."
I forced myself to stand firm.
“Which direction did they run?”
Co Hoai Xuyen looked at Luc Canh Tham and smiled coldly. Luc Canh Tham's voice was hoarse.
“La Thua Nghiep ran back to the old path of fortune.”
"That road leads to the entrance of the desert pass. Once out of the pass, it is very difficult to pursue."
Co Hoai Xuyen shouted angrily.
“If it weren't for the Luc family's private seal, he wouldn't have been able to leave the capital.”
Luc Canh Tham did not argue.
“It was me who was irresponsible.”
Co Hoai Xuyen disdainfully spat.
“Seven blames?”
"Ten years ago, it was your Luc family who said 'follow the order to stop troops'."
"We wait inside the gate until we shoot the last arrow, wait until the Major General himself burns the flag."
“He thought reinforcements hadn't arrived yet.”
“I didn't know until later... the reinforcements were actually only thirty miles away.”
Luc Canh Tham's face turned pale.
“Are there any old books in the Black Stone barracks?”
Co Hoai Xuyen took out a bundle of oilcloth from his chest and threw it over.
“The major general told me to bring it out.”
“He said, if I meet someone from the Lam family, I should give it to her.”
We open the oilcloth layer. Inside was half a blood-stained list, along with a green jade button cracked in half. My fingertips trembled slightly. Co Hoai Xuyen looked ta.
"The major general said, if you still remember this jade button, don't trust anyone who comes forward to plead for help in the old case."
Luc Canh Tham suddenly raised his head.
“Who else is there besides La Thua Nghiep?”
Co Hoai Xuyen replied coldly:
“Han Thieu Hanh.”
Luc Canh Tham's eyes immediately turned cold.
“Indeed it is him.”
I looked up at the two of them.
“Now is not the time to count old debts.”
“Chase others first.”
The commander of the forbidden army spoke up:
“Miss Lam, ahead is a mountain road in the valley, it's easy to be ambushed.”
Co Hoai Xuyen moved the cutting knife from Luc Canh Tham's neck.
“I lead the way.”
Luc Canh Tham stood up with his hands on the ground, his body swaying slightly. I look at him.
“You stay.”
He said hoarsely:
“I know the old way of fortune.”
Co Hoai Xuyen smiled coldly.
“What you're used to... is arriving thirty miles late.”
Luc Canh Tham did not respond. I turned around and got on the horse.
"If he does anything unusual along the way, immediately tie him up."
Luc Canh Tham looked at me and replied softly: The old road has been abandoned for a long time, and the stone steps are full of dry grass. When we chased halfway up the mountain, a sharp whistle suddenly sounded from ahead. Immediately afterwards, large rocks thundered down from the cliff. The army shouted in unison:
“Protect Miss Lam.”
The horse was frightened, its front hooves raised high. Luc Canh Tham grabbed my reins and forcefully pulled the horse's head close to the rocky hollow on the cliff. A giant rock slid close to the horse's belly and rolled past, smashing the two chariots blocking the rear. Before I could catch my breath, La Thua Nghiep's laughter echoed on the mountain road above.
“Lin Chieu Nha, you came at the right time.”
